re: opening hours
woes not appear to say anything at all!!
Closed, or just in receivership?
All airlines have ceased flights to this airport, but is it closed to non-airline flights?
Nice airfiled
We spent a great time there.
Can you fly Radio Controlled aircraft at this airport?
I fly large (2m wingspan) RC electric aircraft - is there a club or facility to fly at Quatro Vientos airport? I live in Tres Cantos!

re: Flight France > Gabon with microlight BRM Citius
Hi,
No internet address available so far. Use phone instead, but beware they don't speak anything but spanish. AFAIK MOGAS is available but better check, airfield is actually in the middle of nowhere and I'm not sure any gas station is available in the vicinity. I use AVGAS and was forced to refuel in Jerez.
FPL may be submitted by phone, but if you fly to Morocco you have to pass custom in Jerez (Morocco is not Schengen area).
Regards lsalv
re: Flight France > Gabon with microlight BRM Citius
Reply to @lsalv: thanks a lot for the information regarding Trebujena airfield. I intend to have a stop over next month (mid-april 2012) before going to Tanger - Morrocco. Can I file a flight plan to Morrocco by phone (Jerez twr). Is mogas available at the airport or do I have to go to gas station ? have you the internet address of airport manager. thanks and regards. Michel.

re: Airport overview
ourairports.com doesn't have its own fleet of satellites. It has to rely on what Google provides. If the picture is out of date, then only Google can update it.
Airport overview
The satellite picture is at least 3 years old and doesn't show the new terminal that is the only one in use now and for at least 2 years from now.
VFR limitation
Be careful to VFR limitation. VFR flights forbidden MON-FRI 0800-1800LT.
No way to go around this restriction. Airfield is operated by Spanish AF.
La Morgal WX
Weather is usually affected by low clouds in the morning due to marine humidity condensing on the mountains south of airfield.
In this case it is usually better to descend over the sea and approach the field from N (GijΓ²n). For the same reason departures are easier northbound to climb above clouds over sea.
Useful info
Nice airfield close to Jerez de la Frontera.
Wind is usually strong (ca. 20Kts) but amost aligned with runway. Be careful in case of southern wind (rare). Approach is a little tricky because runway is on top of a hill and ground height difficult to appreciate.
Pay attention to neighbouring LE-R154 (GND-SEA/6000ft AMSL, ROTA AB).
Remember to close FPL by radio with Jerez TWR 118.55 when field in sight or after landing by phone Jerez ARO +34-956150106.
Airfield is usually unattended. Coordinate ARR and DEP with airport manager +34-677428329, +34-619558362, +34-625461216.
AVGAS not avlb. MOGAS O/R.
re: Moron AFB, circa 1964
Hey, I was stationed at Moron AFB 1961-1962 3973 csg Base Comm. Our barracks was right across from the base chapel, end of our barracks faced the motor pool and flight line. Is anyone out there who in base comm or during the same time period. Would be fun to talk to some old buddies. Alive in well in Bellingham,Washington A1c Paul Vodopich
Moron AFB, circa 1964
I also was at Moron AFB in support of RF-101C Voodoos from the 38th TRS out of Ramstein, of the 66th TRW then in Laon France, for a NATO winter excercise circa 1964. Great place to get away from the dank German weather in the winter. The Spanish AF was still flying F-86's (not Gina's). They would do endless practice dive-bombing runs as we sunned ourselves from the roof of the barracks. Saw one fail to pull out of his dive. Seems that was not an unusual occurance. Have fond memories of a nice and lovely Spanish gal by the name of Signorita Caridad Romero, who sang at the Airman's club. Our airplane by the way wound up in "Upper Haystack", shortly after the US got kicked out of France due to one of our planes buzzing Charley DeGaule's Nuke Plant. About the same time we transitioned to RF-4C's and most of our pilots went to SE Asia, where several got shot down. I salute Capt. Grubs who did not survive captivity. The flight to/from Moron was in the Wing's Gooney bird, which was later converted to a "Q" model Spook Ship and also served in SE Asia.
Fond memories.

GREAT
I hope the airport opens soon and hopefully we cab fly from Maastricht Holland to CastellΓ³n. REALLY HOPE SO!
Perfect place to stop, stay and refuel
Ibiza is great to fly to. Perfect prices for staying landing and refuelling. All of spain, but Allicante Vallencia and worse of them all LEAB, is very decent with landing fees. around 10 euro's
Perfect place to stop, stay and refuel
A skydiving attitude, great and helpful people, relax refuel stay what ever you want. Landing fee like around 10 euro's and a perfect place.
great service, great people
So going on a helicopter through spain you need to stop there. Valencia and Alicante you would want to pass because you need an handeling-agent which normally cost like 250 - 360 euro's extra.
Nearby barcelona so perfect to stop refuel and take a coffee.
don't go there !!
i really was chocked about the communication. Although English is THE required languages for everything to do with flying.
I have phoned twice, about the time to come for refueling, twice they said to be there from 1500 to 1700 lcl time. In the NOTAM there is a VFR window of 0800 to 14.00 the guys on the phone both said "NO between 1500 and 1700".
now i did send a mail 12hrs upfront, but the reply came 2 hours before i left at 1200lcl which i didn't check because i already checked out of the hotel and i did phone twice. Nobody told me this on the phone.!!
Then if got confronted, after refueling with scandalous prices of 4.16 a liter. like 2.16 per liter plus outside hours refueling 'bonus' of 326 euro's
re: IATA code?
Reply to @pak21: The 2008 ICAO publication doesn't list any corresponding IATA code for this airport, so I've deleted it. Thanks for catching it.
IATA code?
How sure are we about the IATA code here? Most sources seem to give MCV as being McArthur River Mine Airport, Australia.

First flight to Treb
Flew a 172 D-EVOC from the Fly-in-Spain crew to Trebujena Airfield on 28.10.09. It's the maintenance facility for Fly-in-Spain so lots of short hops from Jerez LEJR to Treb.

Spanair Flight 5022 destination
Gran Canaria Airport was the destination of Spanair Flight 5022, the flight that crashed right after takeoff from Madrid Barajas Airport (MAD) on August 20, 2008:
Spanair Flight 5022
On August 20, 2008, an MD-82 jet crashed immediately after takeoff from runway 36L and caught fire, killing at least 153 of the 172 people on board. It was bound for Gran Canaria Airport (LPA):
Two ICAO codes
This airport has two ICAO codes: LEVS as a military airport, and LECU as a civilian airport.
re: Change of designator
For the identifier, I'm sticking with Wikipedia and using LEPA as the primary one. The Wikipedia article also mentions that Son San Joan Airport is the previous name. I have the other code and the older name in keywords, so that they'll still show up for searches.
re: Change of designator
The DAFIF record for this airport shows both ids. I assume it's one for the civil part and one for the military part. It also has "Palma De Mallorca" and "Son San Juan" shown as names.
So which one are you going with?
re: Change of designator
Thanks for the corrections, bru25l. We actually had two copies of this airport in the database, one under LESJ and one under LEPA. I removed the old copy and updated the proper one to show that it's a major airport.
Nice place to visit
I flew in here and back out in my only C-124 rides back in 1969. I was supporting our RF-101 Vodoos based at Upper Heyford, UK and one had an air refuelingproblem. I grabbed my tools and tester, flew down here on "Old Shakey", fix the problem aircraft in 5 minutes flat and spent the rest of a lovely week waiting for another "Shakey" flight back to the cold and dreariness of "Upper Haystacks". Moron is near the city of Seville and also quite close to the Rock of Gibraltar. Lovely countryside and people.
