Emirates flight to Dubai - showing in departures as going to Singapore ???????

re: Runway

It certainly seems that way, and Google is known to do that. But for the definitive answer, you'd have to ask Google since its their map.

Picture of

Runway

Southern end of runway is sealed and top end appears to be gravel. Are these 2 seperate time sat photos?

Picture of

Charabah Airstrip

Dropped in the other day in the Foxbat. Nice Strip, sloping up towards the West. Approach was very bumpy with strong westerlies. If you overfly resort on arrival note that the resort is some 600ft higher than the Airstrip. Info says Elev. = 2200ft, but sign at airfield says 2000ft. Nice Resort. Reasonably priced, good food and friendly staff. Getting a bit old, but price / value ratio is good.

Miles airport construction start up ?

Just enquiring about the new airport to be built and when will it be operational?

How far away is it from Miles itself ?

Thank you for your help.

Thankyou.

Fuck Osborne

Middle of bumfuck and the wankers do random bag searches before departure. Fuckin porta-loo doesn't even work most of the time. Ivanhoe sucks balls.

Possible real location?

I've added a POI at something that looks like it might be an airstrip that's closer to Aerodrome Road.

Picture of

re: Childers Airport

The aerodrome is located on Aerodrome Rd, off the Bruce Highway approximately 7 kilometres East of the township of Childers.

re: Enoggera Airport

Thank you for the update. I wonder if there was once an airport here, since it has an ICAO designator and http://sabc.org.au/knav/airport/YENO.html lists a runway 03/21. I've updated the page.

Picture of

Enoggera Airport

This airport is actually a sports oval on an army base. My understanding is that the oval is a designated emergency landing zone for helicopters. I quite often see military rotary wing aircraft land here. Future development on the army base will see parts of the oval dissapear due to new building infrastructure.

re: NDB

Thank you for the update - I've removed the Brisbane NDB from the database.

Great for both airline (passenger) and general aviation - we

Back in 1999 I was traveling to Australia for business. I managed to spend some time visiting Cairns. I flew up from Sydney on a 747-SP, walked down the jet stairs on to the apron - cool! Then later on in the week I rented a C172, VH-WHK, along with an instructor to fly up the coastline sight seeing. Amazing! I also was amazed to see an HF radio in this C172 - but this made sense, since you are often in the outback. Great times - I hope it is still the same or better.

Picture of

Wattle Hills Airstrip

Good sand strip but private. Cranky mob unless you are really stuck. No drinking water, no fuel (even if caught out) or facilities other a bit of a gunyah to get of the sun. Best to head to Lockhart. Mail service uses strip most Wednesdays. Flying Doctor calls also.

Caloundra

Home to the Queensland Air Museum, which is definitely worth a visit.

Runway designation

Why does the information on this site show the runway headings as 18/36 when the satellite photo clearly shows the runways as 13/31 ?

Runway info

Recently updated the runway info for Watts bridge as it was way off ( something like 3000m & 2000m ) My figures are estimates but close to the mark.

Be aware there is a road and a fence across the NW end of 12-30 and the last few hundred meters is not in use.

Birdsville Races

Birdsville races rained out September 2010, the town became a quagmire, mud, propstrikes and the digging out of planes. A nightmare.

Bare Base

This is one of the RAAF's three "bare bases" -- it's empty, but has all the infrastructure in place to be activated quickly in case of a crisis.

GOANA Air Safari

Did a C-172 checkout at Redcliffe with GOANA in 2002 before spending a week flying around the East Coast of Australia. Was issued an Australian Day VFR license on the basis of my Canadian license and a check flight with the GOANA chief pilot.

Viva The Whitsundays

Landed here on a short (maybe 15 minutes) shuttle flight in a Cherokee 6, from Hamilton Island where we just arrived from Sydney. Absolutely fantastic views of the Whitsundays Islands :-)

The grass runway is located between two big hills so you basically can't see the circuit on the downwind leg (which is itself above water) and keeping the runway centerline is not just an option here...

Oh I almost forgot the subsequent sailing around the Whitsundays was awesome too !

Picture of Yannick

Skyfox Gazelle

had a TIF on a Gazelle ultralight there. How slow compared to the Warrior, but also how easy to fly. Flying at fairly low level above the beach, awesome :-)

Picture of Ozguy

MCY

A great place to fly into, but ramp space is very limited.

CTL

A much busier airport back in the 70's.

Picture of Ozguy

BCI

I flew in here in a Stearman one day, and was warmly welcomed by about half the population of the town. A nice friendly place.
