First build by Indian Army for military use, but never really piratically use of the strong wind and mostly closed weather. The runway build into the mountain and not flat, so the landing could be bumpy. The is no touch and go possible because another side of the runway is a mountain. In 2012-13 YON airport received schedule flight to Paro by DrukAir (KB) and promised but never flew Bhutan Airline. Now the airport is closed again because lack of passenger and uneven runway that could damage ATR-42 aircraft hull. Runway is being rebuild and schedule reopen is unknown. I personally took the flight out to Paro back in 2013, you can have a look here at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oTlJ55ePtw
