Air Base at Dog Creek

My father was stationed at Dog Creek upon his return from WWII as an evader, prisoner and escapee. After he married my Mom, he had to hide her on the base as no women were allowed! He tells me the men saved their beer rations, pooled them together and drank them after VE Parade in Williams Lake. He was there from late 1944 to about the fall of 1945, when he was discharged from the Air Force.

My husband and I were in the Dog Creek area today, September 1, 2105, and spoke with a First Nation local, who directed us out of town to the site, but we could find no evidence of the airport.

Flights

Hi, i was wondering if there was a flight from your airport to edmonton ? Thanks

Invermere Airport

Watch out for the crazy guy in hanger 1. Pulled up to FBO for fuel and he comes out screaming violently at us that we blew dust around his hanger. Thought he was going to hit us or our aircraft. Seems he thinks this is his private airport and although right beside the fuel that he should scream at anyone that pulls up. Suggestion: public airport beside fuel, close your door when someone pulls up or move away from fuel.

great place to stop

I stopped at Valemount in my RV9 both on the way from Vancouver to Edmonton and on the reverse. Excellent clear approaches for 14 and 32. There is a small terminal building where you can get a biobreak and 100LL is available self serve. Bring your credit card for the fuel.

Old & New

Visited with my Dad (Bill Lawson) when about 9 yrs old. He was "District inspector, Western Airways". Went there again recently when my kids gave me a hangliding flight for Birthday present ... Fantastic!! Short flight time though ... got to do it again.

My 3-yr-old Grandson would say for couple months after: "CandaGrampa on kite in sky!"

Runway Condition

As of 22 Jul 2014, runway partly overgrown with grass but appears to still be in fair condition, a deep unmarked ditch has been plowed across each end of the runway. Runway does not appear to have any maintenance, possible helo use only. Shown as abandoned on VNC.

Tiedowns

This place sucks for tie downs! Had to chip away at concrete to free up old concreted over tie downs. Not a friendly transient airport, long was from town and lodging. Only one taxi.

It's interesting to see the mine site 26 years after I was hauling fuel there with CMA'S AIRCRAFT. Strange to see it abandonded. Was a very busy airport in 1988

Grass Roots Flying

If you can land here, you land most anywhere!

Best Grass Strip EVER!

We easily landed our PC-12 and parked in front of the rental at the Mabel Lake Lodge we found at VRBO and mabellakelodge.com. The lake has beautiful sandy beaches, great golfing, the calmest water for skiing and amazing fishing. One last piece of virtually untouched paradise.

Literally like landing on a golf green and we can park our C

2900 feet of irrigated golf green maintained by the professionally designed (renowned course architect Les Furber ) Mabel Lake Golf Resort and Airpark. Twin Comanche, Caravans, PC-12s, Cirrus, Cessna and Piper are common aircraft landing here throughout the spring and summer.

One beautiful airport

Best thing about Golden airport its is location - simply gorgeous! The town itself looks a bit beaten by today's economy, but still cute.

Approaches are wide open, though terrain is quite high and circuit looks pretty "interesting" on the downwind. Look for the electric station, cables and posts while on short final northbound. Nothing special, obstacles clearly marked - just don't come in too flat.

Active helicopter traffic, so stay on the radio - and these guys are professionals! Hangglider and paraglider ramp on the mountain SE of the airport - like a huge bald spot near the top - with corresponding activity. Keep an eye on them while flying towards Alberta, following the published VFR route

Friendly and clean FBO, runway and the ramp in good conditions. Pleasure to visit.

re: Hastings Field

I'm trying to find the name of the person who recently cut the airstrip in Jul 2013. I own a nearby one-acre field in Port Washington which desperately needs cutting and can't find anyone to do it.

Thanks,

Jan

Lovely airport

Nice and quiet mountainous airport - located in a beautiful valley, with excellent runway, very well cared about, and just slightly challenging approaches due to elevated terrain surrounding the field. Nothing to be worried about if your plane can perform - and the scenery around is simply adorable! Note that you can easily barge into US airspace flying southbound, so keep your eyes open unless that was your plan...

Mica Creek Airport is located approximately 20 km south of the Mica Creek Townsite. There are small willows and trees starting to grow on the fringe of the stripe. The approximate length of the stripe is 3000'.

Only one way in and the opposite way out. Long grass strip running uphill - lots of distance although I don't know the length. The owner keeps it cut (friendly too). There is a for sale sign so it could be your next life.

BC Airlines float base on Powell Lake 1957-58

Maurie Mercer was BC Airlines base pilot on Powell Lake in 1958 when I was working for Bill Gaston at the little Shell station there. Mauie gave me my first airplane ride. It was a Cessna 170.. I would love to know the call letters of that airplane and locate a picture of it too if anyone has one. I can be reached at jpveale@shaw.ca Thanks

Good condition gravel strip (Sept 2012), helpful friendly people, and one of the few places where you can get mogas, both regular and premium. Flying a plane with a Rotax 912 engine this is really appreciated. Most high wing airplanes will be able to roll right up to the pumps (its a regular car gas station). The top of the gate posts needed to be about 6 inches lower for us so we used a fuel jug and pump we had on board to transfer fuel. Its only about 250 feet from the pump to the end of the runway so it wasn't too onerous but it would have been fun to pull right up to the pump.

Just be sure to note the power lines along the road.

Sea plane base!

I didn't know if I'd find this one in here but I did! My one and only sea plane ride. I swear the pilot had been sipping some whiskey when he came to pick us up, but he did take us for spectacular plane ride along the coast.

re: Looking for a ride!!!!! Seattle Nationals August 3rd, 20

You should know that under US and probably Canadian law, a pilot who agreed to fly you is taking a big risk unless they could prove that they would have made the flight without you. Offering to fly somebody somewhere for "some $$$ .. or whathaveyou" would be seen as "holding out" as a commercial operator.

Picture of

Looking for a ride!!!!! Seattle Nationals August 3rd, 2012

Last Minute Idea; Live five mins from Glenora ..... Looking for a flight/ride to Seattle to see the Nationals this weekend! Anyone interested or do you know anyone that might be interested in flying us there and back? We(my hubbie and I) are looking for a ride and are willing to put some $$ towards the flight or "whathaveyou". Leave Thursday late afternoon, return Friday evening or Friday morning and return either Friday evening or Saturday morning. Pls email carriebell@shaw.ca
