Not to be confused with the modern Talasea Airport to the north, this is the site of two crashed WWII planes (a B-25 Mitchell and a Lockheed Ventura) still clearly visible in 2021.

Flew in from Goroka in Cessna - bigger than 172 as there were four of us plus the pilot. The strip was slightly uphill and had drainage strips like chevrons right up the strip, making a very exciting and bumpy landing. I was in the RAAF 38Sqn deployment in Goroka with one Caribou supporting the Australian Army Survey Corps doing a massive mapping program of the highlands. All that was at Keglsugl then was a Patrol Officer's quarters and a few native huts. Took us 24 hours up to Mt Wilhelm and back. Great weather - rained when we camped near the summit and the rain turned to ice as it ran off the tent. I got hypoxia and didn't get right to the top, which the others did in the dark!!
Take off from Keglsugl was a blast. The Cessna shook and bounced as we headed for the end, then we were airborne over a valley a thousand feet below. You don't fly in PNG with a weak heart.
Cessna 172 Territory Airlines. Can't recall the pilots name. A sensational flight ex Goroka, unintended diversion over Ramu River and backtracked slightly west of Mt Wilhelm to locate the 'strip. At the time I believe it was the highest operational airstrip in the world? Re-commenced a three week Agricultural patrol of the Upper Chimbu Valley. On arrival back at Kundiawa flew to Goroka with Bobby Gibbes (former RAAF Wing Commander) of Gibbes Sepik Airways
I,Danny Ruben Takalje of Andakombi iis proud to have Andakombi airport in the very heart of this nation PNG,l now make a suggestion to this airport to be upgraded into an emergency landing airport for all PNG air space traffic
Our family used it for 16 years while living in the village. The airstrip was in our backyard, you might say. Served us well. Unfortunately it will probably never serve that way again, though could still be resurrected if there was a need. But with flying costs so high and a 'road' into the village now that sometimes operates it is hard to imagine what would constitute a needβ¦
A reasonable international terminal but nothing to rave on about. Duty Free can be more expensive than buying locally! Customs can be cramped upon arrival and offers little assistance for passengers with disabilities. Once through the humidity hits you! A great nation which I have had involvement with or have lived in for over 40 years.
KUT is not 174 kHz. It is 1737 kHz. The same with GA 173 should be 1725 kHz. This is a problem with OurAirports.com. Looks like all frequencies with nnnn kHz are shortened to nnn (the first three numbers).
There are 3,500 or so speakers of the language known as Mian. They're all in Sundaun Province, PNG. And Yapsiei is one of the 4 villages where it is spoken, according to the book about endangered and lost languages of the world edited by Peter K. Austin.

My love for Rabaul is so immense, I am now a member of the new Facebook group called Reviving Rabaul ENB. I went into Nuku airport in 1969 to visit Ignas Wunum.
May have been a Brittan Norman Islander.
Landing consisted of a turn in front of the hill running at right angles to the strip and then gunning it up hill to land near the terminal.
Got out and threw up.
