Is there a runway?

I do not see a runway, but it could just be my eyes.

Includes the Jack F. Paulus Skiway

The Skiway is essentially a runway for the station.

Tourist landing area in summer

Was part of an Antarctic research vessel/cruise that allowed guests to walk around the area for a few hours and observe the thousands of Gentoo penguins there. A waterplane was observed coming in as we departed that evening, very easy to see, access and was a lot warmer that I had anticipated.

Why?

Can you provide a list of names of airports on the opposite coastline of Antarctica? And why can't Google Maps display satellite photos or views on the south pole, when it can clear be seen using Google Earth Pro? Makes no sense at all!

re: NDB Noexistant

Thank you β€” I've deleted the NDB and added the traffic frequency.

Picture of

NDB Noexistant

The NDB listed has not existed on station since sometime prior to 2000.

Ski-way is a safe area on the Glacier used only for critical med-evac flights.

Ski-way is not established until needed, no markings in place.

Station does monitor 118.1 MHz

Hi, I will be seeing you there Dec/Jan :)

Can you please inform me of the weather conditions at that time?

Re: wrong location

Fixed! All it needed was a "-".

Picture of

wrong location

the base is not in the right place on the map, it is actually on the antarctic peninsula, not in the middle of the southern ocean!

AT THE END OF THE WORLD

THAT COULD BE THE TITTLE OF A BEST SELLER BUT IS NOT. IT IS A REAL PLACE!

LET ME TELL YOU THAT I NEVER BEEN THERE BUT I HAVE TALKED TO A LOT OF CHILEAN AIRMEN THAT HAVE FLEW TO THAT MAGIC PLACE.

THE IMAGES YOU SEE NOW ARE QUITE DIFFERENTS DURING THE WINTER. THE SNOW COVER EVERYTHING AND LANDING WITH A "HERCULES" C-130 IS A BIG DEAL. PILOTS AND CREW MEMBERS ARE HIGHLY TRAINED TO ACHIEVE THIS TASK.

VISITORS TO "VILLA LAS ESTRELLAS" , THE VILLAGE WHERE CHILEAN AIRMEN AND THEIR FAMILIES LIVE THE WHOLE YEAR, CAN GO DURING THE SUMMER SEASON ( SOUTH HEMISPHERE ) ONLY BY HIRING SPECIAL TOURS.

IS AN EXPENSIVE TOUR BUT YOU MUST TRY, BELIEVE IT OR NOT!

re: this is a cool airport

I've moved it to the correct lat/lon.

this is a cool airport

it is the middle of now where!!!

No photo or map

Unfortunately, Google Maps cannot display a location right on the poles, so (as of 2007-12-17) there's no map or satellite picture available for the South Pole Station.
