Great day trip

Awesome views, good day trip. There's a bunch of cafe's overlooking the reef and ocean 10mins walk north of the airport (sealed road). If you keep an eye out on takeoff or landing there's also a surprise in one of the forests - see if you can spot it.

Remember circuits are RH on 09 (all are to the south to avoid overflying the settlement) check the ERSA it has full details. https://www.airservicesaustralia.com/aip/aip.asp

re: Mrs Smith is not a pom!

Nobody ever accused her of being a POM. Just acting like a toffee nosed POM who thinks that she is Gods gift to the Australian Aviation Industry. WRONG.

Can she fly? Does she have a pilots license? Or is she a self appointed Industry watchdog? And then if so, by whose authority and who has appointed both her and her POM Husband to police the local flying and other distant communities?

Pray for the day when some real down to earth proper aviators return to run the airfield.

How many of us would be more than happy to frequently fly in for a visit?

WHERE DOES ONE START? SIGNAGE ETC.

Good evening. As a recent passenger arrival and a resident of Sydney, my wife and I were appalled that we could not ascertain/find directions to the shuttle bus to "Park & Pay" building on the periphery of the Airport. Your wandering attendants had no idea; NO signage. We were tired, it was late, and eventually found out that Park & pay are not allowed to erect signage. GREAT STUFF. How dumb is this. We found the bus boarding site - eventually, after walking from one end of airport to the other. How the hell are overseas strangers going to find their way around ??? Don't worry about them. They'll be gone soon !!!

Next - Sydney Airport is (or should) be the GATEWAY to Australia. What a miserable, boring looking place it is. Why? It's merely a commercial venture. NOTHING to make overseas or interstate visitors feel - this place is so beautiful. Weeds all over the place - not a flowering shrub/garden in sight. Have alook at Changi, Singapore etc. & others.

Smarten yourselves up and make this boring airport a bit more 'user' friendly, that we Australians can be proud of.

Or don't you care?? Too busy pocketing obscene salaries? Over to you.

Misleading information about Meredith Airport

There is no such thing as Meredith Airport. The proper name should be Lethbridge Airpark, Lethbridge, Victoria. Some how this information has been misleading Google Maps to have their place label wrongly for Lethbridge Airpark. This causes great grief for Mr. Baum, the owner of Lethbridge Airpark and to the members of Geelong Sports Aviators (aero club) who uses Google Maps.

Can someone of this website delete any reference of Meredith Airport please? We will thank you dearly.

re: Runway

It certainly seems that way, and Google is known to do that. But for the definitive answer, you'd have to ask Google since its their map.

Picture of

Runway

Southern end of runway is sealed and top end appears to be gravel. Are these 2 seperate time sat photos?

Be prepared!!

If you're hoping for a quick trip through Customs/Immigration think on!! Unless things have changed greatly in the last couple of years be prepared for a couple of hours wait!! ...... and declare EVERYTHING!!

Picture of

Charabah Airstrip

Dropped in the other day in the Foxbat. Nice Strip, sloping up towards the West. Approach was very bumpy with strong westerlies. If you overfly resort on arrival note that the resort is some 600ft higher than the Airstrip. Info says Elev. = 2200ft, but sign at airfield says 2000ft. Nice Resort. Reasonably priced, good food and friendly staff. Getting a bit old, but price / value ratio is good.

re: Unknown airport 25km NW of Alice

I can see why the confusion, though. If you zoom in on the long narrow strip of land that looks like a runway, those X things do kind of look like airplanes. http://goo.gl/maps/qtHCe Zoom in a bit further, and it becomes obvious they're not, however.

Picture of

re: Unknown airport 25km NW of Alice

Reply to @Javelin:

It is not an airport. It is an antenna array associated with the Jindalee RADAR (JORN) facility.

Possible real location?

I've added a POI at something that looks like it might be an airstrip that's closer to Aerodrome Road.

Picture of

re: Childers Airport

The aerodrome is located on Aerodrome Rd, off the Bruce Highway approximately 7 kilometres East of the township of Childers.

Keep this Forum to the point.

[>>>I'm sorry but i do not understand how or why one would expect everybody to stay quiet when they intentionally breach air legislation, putting the safety of themselves and others at risk. Grow up! <<<]

I don't understand this; who is intentionally breaching air legislation?

[>>> The ability to leave a comment about the airfield is being used for all the wrong reasons <<<]

Are you saying Aldinga is being used for all the wrong reason, if so what are they I know there is plenty of chaos there?

Only the other week an inexperienced pilot landed there with is family, thinking naturally that everyone be using the in to wind runway, landed and taxied back. He crossed another runway while an aircraft was on final to that runway, a go-round ensued and the pilot copped an un-helpfull mouthful from one of the instructors. Sure he was in the wrong, but in his own words he could not figure what the hell was going on, he assumed the aircraft had landed behind him, in his words to me was β€œit appeared aircraft were going everywhere with disregard to logic and making operations unsafe”.

[>>>>I fly the family to aldinga regularly, great scenery, great people, great food, great overall environment. I'm not quite sure what everyone is on about. Don't fly like a tool, and you'll receive just as much respect as anyone else.<<<]

I don’t get it, the food is great and the Smiths treat people well, I agree. Who is flying like a TOOL??? Are you talking about operations and the flying school? I agree the ops are chaotic, we had a meeting with CASA a few years ago over it, it’s an ongoing problem I admit, or who else is flying like a tool? If its a great overall environment what is your point with all this stuff about "intentionally breach air legislation" and "flying like a tool" ????

Gawler Aerodrome

I forgot to add, the Adelaide Soaring Club offers that there are no landing fees at Gawler for non-commercial aircraft

(although ERSA reflects otherwise). Surely that is a sign of 'welcome'!

Picture of

Gawler Aerodrome

I strongly back up the previous comment. The club at Gawler welcomes visiting aircraft to a great clubhouse that's well stocked with coffee, basic food and refreshments. Saturdays and Wednesdays are active powered aircraft days. Pilot members gather to watch, talk and welcome visitors. Mondays, Fridays, Saturday and Sunday are the most active gliding days - whenever the conditions are anything above poor! If ever you get a grumpy-bum at Gawler, call the club promotions officer on 0427 868 568 - and he'll have the culprit shot!

What is this!?!

The ability to leave a comment about the airfield is being used for all the wrong reasons.

Baniyala

Baniyala Airport services the Baniyala community, which is the largest homeland in East Arnhem (2011 population of 129).

Baniyala Airport gets between 1-5 flights per day, almost all are charter flights operated by Laynha Air based at Gove (GOV) airport.

There is a small shop next to the airport. There is accommodation available at the Baniyala VOQ as well as the Baniyala Campground near the airport. The Dhuluwuy Recreation Area, 16.5kms by road from Baniyala, is a larger campground on Blue Mud Bay.

Activities at Baniyala including fishing for barramundi and mud crabs, and cultural tours. See www.baniyala.com
