Closed...once again.

Sadly, the airport is now closed. Hopefully it will rise from the ashes once again.

Service at Porter FBO. Wow.

Date of trip: 2013-06-15. Outstanding service. They'll drive you from the FBO to the ferry, and there is an FBO phone so you can call them to come pick you up. It's about 5 minute walk west, then south, if you choose to forego the drive. Then you can take the Porter shuttle bus to the area of the Royal York,a nd catch the subway (or a taxi) from there.

Fuel (100LL) was $2.00/litre plus 13% HST. Ouch.

Parking on the Porter ramp was n/c for less than an hour, or $25 for a day, or $35 for overnight (all plus 13% HST). I arrives at 11am Saturday, and did not leave until 8pm Sunday, they charged me for one overnight. For that length of time, that's less expensive than parking my car at a downtown Toronto hotel.

Landing fees at CYTZ are currently $11 (probably plus tax - have not received that in the mail as yet).

Change the identifier to CYLS

I use the airport all the time for our private jet. When every inch counts.... What happened to the extra foot...If we find it can we still use it?...LOL!

Birthday Surprise

This is going to be a very odd request, but I won't have an answer unless I ask. :)

Is it possible for a small plane to fly over a 1 acre property in Morriston just south of the 401, to drop small bags of candy for a child's birthday party? How much would it be?

Obviously the kids would be protected from any falling missiles once a specific time is arranged.

Thank you.

Dunnville Airport

Well its official. The airport is to stop flight ops as of the end of May this year. Once again a pice of history lost. I have been there many times. I remember standing in hanger 4 that was empty and the roof leaking old equipment rusting in the back. And hearing the harvard fly over thinking this is a shame. Once those towers go up its gone forever. The Museum hopes to run still but i can't see it drawing a crowd with out aircraft too tie it all together. Anyone that has been there should show up for the open house in May it will be the last time we hear the roar of a harvard Departing Dunnville. PLease show you support and and give the field one last Buzz.

Hi.

Would it be possible if i used the run way to test drive a car? My name is andrew please respond to me at andrew_simoes88@hotmail.com

Picture of

Top speed run

I'd like to take my bike to a safe location to max out the speed, I figured a paved landing strip would be perfect. Any idea where I could go do this???

I was wondering if there was any way someone could fly a banaster that would be asking a girl to prom? Please e mail me at guelph121@hotmail.com

Wind Turbines

The Niagara Skydive Centre Inc. receive an "Notice Of Termination" for the lease on the hanger effective March 31, 2013. My understanding is the Main runway will be closed June or July for good. There are 6 wind turbines slated for the property.

Picture of

Airport Overall

Recently introduced runway is under "restricted" use. Airport manager tries to get everyone to use an unpublished and unsafe circuit procedure when using a certain runway for unforeseen noise complaints (27 I think). Self serve fuel does no take debit, only Credit Cards. The flight school installed a new simulator which takes up all the leisure space inside the FBO. The restaurant closed recently and no one really comes in to hang out on the weekends anymore. Hangar prices went up recently and are costly. Airport is slowly improving with the construction however it feels like they have recently been removing the community aspect of flying in Burlington which is a shame for what the airport was many years ago.

Picture of

First grass landing

This was the airport I did my first landing on grass at. However it was on a PPL flight test!

Picture of

Good airport

The Waterloo flight school uses this as a standard cross country route. Not very busy and very fun approach for 14 over Lake Huron! Windsheer can get nasty at times.

Picture of

re: Wind Turbines

Samsung is currently storing windmills on the shorter runway and it is closed by NOTAM. There is security on the property that will confront you. As far as I know the skydiving company is fighting the windmills and I heard plans recently of a flight school for Indian students looking at CDU9.

Friendly ATC

I've only been to CYHM for touch and go's, but flew through their airspace and near it quite frequently while going to Niagara area and back - day and night, winter and summer.

Airport itself is large, way too much than average GA pilot may ever need - and located in a strategically excellent spot. Easy to find, and though there is a lot (as in - a lot!) of through and local traffic, never a problem to deal with thanks to an excellent, very professional ATC. Thanks guys, you set the standards in my books! Few controlled airspaces I've been to are as friendly and comfortable to deal with.

re: Co-op

Sorry we missed your post, there is no licensed aviation mechanic at the club but there are a lot of knowledgeable people that can answer your questions and show you around.

The nearest airports with certified mechanics with a service shop are Hamilton International, Burlington Airpark and York Airfield

Hope this helps

CYLS

I wrote to the FAA about the fact that they still have this listed as CNB9, and they wrote me back asking exactly when it changed. The person asking said "I need this information to track down in what AIRAC Canada publication it was modified for FAA's history file and as an authorized source to update of FAA (NASR) data base." Anybody here know when it changed?

Picture of ptomblin

Would you believe...

The FAA still has this listed as CNB9 instead of CYLS. I've sent them an update.

re: terminal one or terminal three

If you are flying on Air Canada, they use Terminal 1. If you are flying on Westjet, they use Terminal 3. Other airline's information can be found under the Pilot Info tab and/or visiting the airport webpage.

re: Pleasure tours??

This field is privately owned and does not have a commercial operator who offers sight seeing tours. Closest airports that might have someone that offers sight seeing flights are Stirling, Belleville, Tyendinaga Mohawk (Deseronto) or Kingston. Closer to your location (Bobcaygeon), you might have luck at the Lindsay or Peterborough Airports. And its never too late to finish your licence.

Picture of

terminal one or terminal three

How do you know which terminal you need to use when flying in or flying out. This is a flight from Vancouver to Toronto.

Picture of

Pleasure tours??

Does this field have a flight for a christmas present to fly as a sight tour around the area for an hour?

I wish I had finished my ticket.

Looks like a great field.

re: EAA 65 Stoney Creek

Reply to @MarcusPfeiffer: hello co-ops are coming up this year at my school and everyday as i pass by the air port there is at lest 4 or 5 cars. i was thinking that it would be great to get learing experice at a smal air port like this . Although it is smal there is no contact info and i hoped that you could lead me to some one who has experince in the mecanics as im vary intrested in how things work.

Great little aerodrome with 2 grass runways. Note a bit rough due to the terrain but solid even after a rainstorm. 1,900' and 1400'

Collingwood Airport

Excellent facility and friendly staff. One of my favorite airports. Great unicom service and good fuel prices.

re: Can anyone verify?

Reply to @david: It's not in George Plews lists (CFS airports, CFS heliports, WAS seaplane bases) that I can find.

Picture of david

Can anyone verify?

I can make out what might be a landing strip beside the pond, but it's extremely small -- it wouldn't work for anything but an ultralight, at best.

re: A Bigger Small Airport

Reply to @dazuppa:

I've found that it really varies depending on which instructor you get. I had Matt Ross as my instructor and he was great. Overall I found Buttonville to be very professional.

Flying out of Stoney Creek

Hi,

I live close and am currently in the process of acquiring a Challenger XL-65 Ultralight. I am looking for a place to keep it, hanger if possible (1/2 maybe), tie down otherwise but I expect I will keep it at my cottage in Honey Harbor half (or more) of the time.

Seems I JUST missed the EAA 65 meeting this month :(. Should I just drop by? Is there someone I can talk to?

Thanks

Heliports in Toronto

I wonder how much traffic each of the downtown hospitals helipads get on an average month, (HSC & St. Mikes). Does anyone know about Sick Kids specifically? I'm having trouble finding this information online.

Cheers if you do!

wow i can see volk orange with orange hurc sitting there ha

Picture of

Unfriendly

This is an extremely unfriendly and PPR strip which is too bad because it is perfectly situated to take full advantage of Buttonville closing - and has some old RCAF jet parts onsite.

I recommend you make your forced landing in an adjacent field before this place!! Go to Greenbank or Lindsay instead.

Co-op

Hello I'm looking for a phone # my bus passes the air port every day and I thought that it would be cool to do a co-op with a mechanic there .this page is the only thing I have found that has any info. Can anybody give me more info that would be great

re: ride to town

Sorry we missed your post but for future plans, the group is very active and most of the time there are members at the airport that would gladly help you in any way they can. You can always request a cab from the airfield to downtown Hamilton or any other destination.

re: Terrific Day Trip Destination

update

FYI, Picton is still a PPR airport except for PEFC breakfast, second Sunday of each month and Father's Day breakfast. Also there is a new registration box beside the old gas pumps. Please fill out the form. No tiedown fee. No fuel available.

The runways are maintained but are 70 years old so are far from perfect. No snow removal. Flying club is active but own no a/c. There are about 7 a/c based here in the summer.
