Picture of iasbt

Nice!

Something interesting is that there's an airplane-shaped lake east of the terminal building.

The airport exists, but not shown on this satellite because the satellite images are extremely outdated. However, you can seeit on Google Maps, which is www.maps.app.goo.gl/fpxZwnM5JkoduxZe8 .

The construction of the airport had already completed in 2019. However, the satellite image was taken before the completion of the airport.

Reply to @zzj: Lmao you’re actually spouting this nonsense while calling others "pretty stupid"? Hilarious. Even basic, UN-recognized facts like "Taiwan is part of China" are way over your head. Go invent your own UN and declare your house independent first, since you love making up fake realities so much.

Jining's new airport, opened in November 2023, replaced the old Jining Qufu Airport. Check the satellite image on Google Maps, maps.app.goo.gl/DofDfVEwgBHnabvRA , the airport was already completed in 2022, but the satellite image here hasn't been renewed yet.

Reply to @zzj:

Of course not, Taiwan does not belong to China.

Macau and Hong Kong do, but they are not counted as part of the Chinese mainland.

Pretty stupid, got traumatized by the Chinese Communist Party, thinking the developer is a China lover like you.

New airport under construction

On an artificial island, the biggest ever. Really cool, will be fully open in 2035. Gotta wait 10 years.

Been here before. Military and civil airport. A bit old, but pretty okay. There will be a new one on an artificial island.

A little bit of history...

The Lhasa Airport is the airport serving the Tibetan capital of Lhasa, one of the highest places on Earth. In case of an emergency cause by freezing temperatures, high turbulence, mountains on the roof of the world creating dangerous emergency landings, and a lack of airports, the Tibet-Qinghai plateau is very dangerous to fly over, and trust me, even World War Two Allied pilots suffered a stretch over the Himalayas called the Hump. This is why in 1965, Lhasa Gonggar International Airport was founded, but it was originally a no-fly zone due to safety concerns. The year is 1965, and this is when the runway was built, and then a terminal. Immediately, domestic Chinese airlines began service in the airport. Then, a few restaurants and lounges opened. A second runway was built in 1994 due to safety concerns. In 2004, Terminal 2 was built, and in 2011, an expressway was finished. A decade later, in 2021, a third terminal was constructed to improve infrastructure and meet demands. Now, it on average gets five million passengers a year, and flies to China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, Nepal, and Singapore, depending on the very few airlines stationed there. No airlines have hubs there but it is still an important landing spot during emergencies on the so-called roof of the world.

Airport open

From a problem report, quoting a news story:

Ezhou HuaHu Airport is up and running. 27 November 2022 news, an all-cargo plane taking off from Shenzhen Baoan Airport landed smoothly at Ezhou HuaHu Airport early this morning. After unloading, this aircraft quickly loaded express mail and returned to flight. This marks the opening and operation of cargo route of Ezhou HuaHu Airport.

re: OurAirports doesn't delete closed airports

Reply to @animebirder: Thank you. Yes, that is correct. We keep closed airports in the database, but not closed heliports or floatplane bases (unless they have special historical interest; we haven't been too consistent, though). They are easy to filter out of the open data export.

OurAirports doesn't delete closed airports

Hi @mforte! My understanding is that closed airports remain on the database for historical records as well as to keep people informed for aviation safety reasons -- so pilots do not attempt to land there, but are aware the facility either exists or previously existed. There is also the chance that if a closed airport still exists, it may still be used in case of emergency (ie Air Canada Flight 143, 23/07/1983).

This also allows passengers and pilots to log historical visits that occurred in the past (ie my own visit to Hong Kong Kai Tak in 1980).

Cheers!

Satellite imaging

The airport can be seen on Google Maps satellite imagery (https://goo.gl/maps/Y6aYMTdwRnK5A6VX6), but not on the map here, if you're confused as to why you can't see the airport.
