Former airbase

According to the Wikipedia article, this was once a Soviet airbase. The Estonian military left in 2001, and since then, it's been used for driver training and by some motorized paragliders and ultralights. The runway is in very bad shape.

Two separate airports

This is, apparently, a separate airport from the adjacent Abba's Airport http://www.ourairports.com/airports/91OR/ -- see my comment on 91OR.

Two separate airports

Several sources state that Abba's Airport and Bushnell Airport http://www.ourairports.com/airports/5OR2/ are two separate airports, though a labeled photo on airnav.com suggests that they might share their runway across two properties. Does anyone have more information?

re: Airport or helipad ?

Reply to @Zoran: Absolutely right -- I checked the Australia AIP online to confirm, then edited the listing.

Properly "Modimolle Airfield"

Officially, this should be "Modimolle Airfield", but according to Wikipedia and other sources, most people still refer to the town (and the airport) by its former name, Nylstroom.

Operated by the East Rand Flying Club

The East Rand Flying Club operates Springs Airfield, and they hold a fly-in breakfast every summer. Here's a thread on this year's:

Disputed island

Europa Island, in the Madagascar Strait, currently has no permanent inhabitants. France has de-facto control of the island, and manages the airstrip and NDB, but Madagascar also claims ownership.

Runway 26A = taxiway A

According to the Canada Flight Supplement (AIP), runway 26A is actually part of taxiway A, available for VMC day departures only, when runway 26L is active. Apparently, that means smaller aircraft are allowed to take off straight from the taxiway instead of waiting in line for the big runway. There's no corresponding 08A, but if the wind's almost always blowing in off the ocean on a VMC day, it wouldn't be that useful anyway.

re: SkyTrain Service

Reply to @YHZ: Great news! Now if only Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax, etc. could follow suit and link their light rail to their main airports.

re: Avgas in drums

Thanks. It sounds like the Quebec side of James Bay and Hudson Bay is a better bet than the Ontario/Manitoba/NWT side -- I can't find any avgas between Moosonee and Churchill, except for maybe buying drums.

re: Closed

I couldn't find the article in the English Wikipedia -- is it in the Russian one?

Thanks for the info. If anyone finds out the status, please let us know.

re: Closed

Is the runway ever used (say, to fly in new aircraft for display), or is it completely shut down?

Helicopter tours

The airport currently seems to be a base for helicopter tours:

re: Avgas in drums

Reply to @philippe: I've been toying with the idea of flying up north some year, though not as far as Iqaluit. Are the drums 55 US gallons? That would be a bit of a pain in my Warrior, with a 48 US gallon usable fuel capacity.

re: Closed?

The pavement looks rough but intact, and although the markings have worn off, nothing's been built on or close to the runway. Is there any way to confirm the airport's status?

Picture of david

Destroyed by volcano

This airport was mostly buried in a volcanic eruption in 1997 (if you zoom in, you can still see parts of the runway). Montserrat was without an airport until 2005, when TRPG opened.

re: Closed?

I don't know enough about drag racing to know what to look for in the satellite pic. Certainly, I don't see proper runway markings.

Plans to close

With the lost funding, the Sifton family is fairly certain they'll have to close Buttonville in a few years:

re: re: Wrong spell it is Nashik not Nasik

Reply to @dide: Thanks. Do you happen to have latitude/longitude information for the two other airports?

Picture of david

re: IΒ΄m not sure

Reply to @ptomblin: OK, I've moved the airport to that location -- it looks reasonable. Haven't changed the runway yet.

re: Right name

Reply to @choppergb: thanks. I've moved "HAT" to the local identifier field (so that it appears at the top of the right sidebar, and will show up in searches, etc.), translated the name back into English, and put the Spanish name in the keywords field (it shows up at the bottom of the right sidebar). I'll do the same for the other heliports.

Reply to @choppergb: Thanks for the update. I'm not sure where to move the marker to, but please feel free to use the "Edit" tab and drag the marker to the right spot.

re: Real name

Reply to @choppergb: Moved and renamed.

Picture of david

re: Real name

Reply to @choppergb: Thanks for the help! I moved the marker to what looks like a helipad, though I can't imagine the pilot who would want to land on a helipad that close to a transformer station and high-voltage lines, especially in a wind! Let me know if that's the right position.

Is the HMT the transformer station designator? So it would be "Transener S.A. (HMT) Heliport" in English?

Picture of david

re: Right name

Reply to @choppergb: So into English, would that be "Transener S.A. HAT Heliport"? Does "HAT" stand for something, or is it part of the name?

Picture of david

re: 1 airport

Reply to @choppergb: Thanks -- I've merged the heleport into the airport.

re: Wrong spell it is Nashik not Nasik

Thanks -- I've updated the entry.

Former airfield

This was once RAF Andover, and the remnants of the a runway are still visible in the satellite photo if you zoom out a bit. In 2008 there were plans to redevelop the site as a major Tesco warehouse.

re: 1 airport

Reply to @choppergb: merged (again).

re: Is this really a separate facility?

Reply to @choppergb: Thanks -- I've merged the heliport.

Reply to @choppergb: There's a runway clearly visible in the satellite photo -- is it closed?

re: No cardone airport

Reply to @choppergb: Thanks -- I have merged the two airports into the Cardone location, and renamed it. If you find any other errors, please feel free to fix them directly using the Edit tab, or to send me the corrections.

re: No cardone airport

Reply to @choppergb: Before I make any changes, I'd like to confirm. Should this airport be merged with Vedia Aeroclub?

http://www.ourairports.com/airports/AR-0465/

If so, which of the two locations is correct? Thanks.

re: Location on Google is wrong

Thanks -- I've moved the airport marker.

Joncas Adventure

This strip appears to belong to Joncas Adventure: http://www.aventurejoncas.com/en/contact/

It's not listed in the CFS, so it should be presumed private/PPR

re: anyone flown into here from Canada?

Yes, I've cleared customs at ART. Unfortunately, I had to wait 30 minutes, because the customs people forgot about the meeting and didn't leave the bridge until I called on my cell phone.

If it's VFR weather, a better option is 89N Alexandria Bay/Maxson Field:

http://www.ourairports.com/airports/89N/

It's much closer to the Thousand Islands Bridge, so it's easier for the officers, and you don't have to wait as long if they forget.

Syracuse (KSYR) also has customs nearby, as does Ogdensburg (KOGS), which is at the next bridge down from the Thousand Islands Bridge.

History

During World War II, this was RAF Westhampnett. Two fighter squadrons (145 and 602) were based here during the Battle of Britain. Later in the war, the USAAF also used the field. It became a civilian airfield after the war.

Since the late 1940s, a motor racing track, the "Goodwin Circuit", has run around the airport perimeter.

re: New Policies at YKZ

Reply to @bcrosby: Interesting. The main apron at CYOW has been uncontrolled as long as I've been flying, because tower can't see well enough to guarantee that you'll be clear of planes pushing back, baggage trains, etc. A typical clearance is back to the north field from the Esso or Shell is "taxi bravo, apron at your discretion, alfa, tango, hold short runway 22" β€” the "at your discretion" is controller-ese for "you're on your own taxiing around the parked Airbusses, bubba". I think CYYZ has a dedicated apron controller.

Prior permission required

The airport allows camping, and is only a few minutes' walk from restaurants and lodging, but you need permission to land:

Reply to @TwinCoFlyer: That's great news! There were too many horror stories from UFS-Aero.
