Airport comments for Australia

Jandakot is a Busy Airport

Statistically, this is Australia's busiest airport and it is primarily a VFR airport.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service has a base there and Singapore Airlines have some Learjets there for training but apart from that, the majority of aircraft operaing in and out of Jandakot are Cessna 152 / 172, Piper Warriors and the like.

Most of the traffic is pilot training, from ab-initio to twin IFR.

Many of the trainee pilots are foreign (China Southern has a flying school there) and their levels of English pronunciation and comprehension can vary significantly.

Air Traffic Control is generally very good but there is one miserable, rude, grumpy Tower Controller who is a disgrace to his profession. He is rude, bullying and tries very hard to intimidate pilots - especially the new ones. Fortunately, very senior management in Airservices Australia are aware of him and are monitoring his situation.

The bottom line with Jandakot is that it is a 'see and be seen' airport and you must keep your wits about you.

Make sure you read and understand the local procedures before you operate there.

Perth is a beautiful city and flying there is delightful. Jandakot is also a great airport, but like everything in aviation, it is unforgiving of inadequacy or un-preparedness.

Cheers.

Same ol, same ol

Flew in with a mate the other day with intentions of refueling.

Incredibly daunting to join the circuit as 2 runways in operation, 90 degrees to each other and busy.

My mate wanted to join the circuit to land on 03 but 03 and , I think, 32 were is constant alternating use by local training aircraft.

Out of determination, he finally managed to join the circuit for 03.

When he commented to some tall lanky chap with a Adelaide Biplanes shirt, who therefore must have been part of the regime, he was asked if he had a GA licence and doesn't he know how to join a circuit. What arrogant crap. I think I must agree that some Pommie (as per comments on this site) arrogance must have rubbed off on this chap.

He was that pissed off that he decided to give refueling a miss and go to Goolwa.

Whow, it took about 15 min to try and enter 03, line up and take off.

A hair raising and frustrating experience.

There was some parachuting and flying activity at Goolwa but nothing like the hassle to join the circuit as Aldinga.

Have to give that a miss in the future.

But what about some rules and applying some airman ship. How do the students cope?

Well, its as my mate explained.

There is probably a local instructor in the aircraft as well and they simply time the circuits or do a bigger circuit or whatever they have to do so as to facilitate a landing on 03, then 32 and so on.

Makes it hard for anyone flying in there and in my view, dangerous.

I have read the comments on this site and would agree that there must be times when this does not happen.

And then it may be a nice place, but for me and my mate, never ever again.

Dammed glad to have gone to Goolwa and finally back to our aerodrome.

Confirmed - my Eurocontrol data shows it as YSFG and "Stonefield Gliding" as well. Updated.

Wrong identifier

This is YSFG not YSFL - for Stonefield Gliding.

Yea airport - Really? I'll give it a miss!

The location given for this "Airport" is right in the middle of the mountains and in amongst the trees! Tiger country! It is also on a bearing of approx 090 and 39 Nm out from Yea, across step mountains and a lake!

Rather than the "Zero" elevation given it appears to be around 3100 feet!

Great day trip

Awesome views, good day trip. There's a bunch of cafe's overlooking the reef and ocean 10mins walk north of the airport (sealed road). If you keep an eye out on takeoff or landing there's also a surprise in one of the forests - see if you can spot it.

Remember circuits are RH on 09 (all are to the south to avoid overflying the settlement) check the ERSA it has full details. https://www.airservicesaustralia.com/aip/aip.asp

re: Mrs Smith is not a pom!

Nobody ever accused her of being a POM. Just acting like a toffee nosed POM who thinks that she is Gods gift to the Australian Aviation Industry. WRONG.

Can she fly? Does she have a pilots license? Or is she a self appointed Industry watchdog? And then if so, by whose authority and who has appointed both her and her POM Husband to police the local flying and other distant communities?

Pray for the day when some real down to earth proper aviators return to run the airfield.

How many of us would be more than happy to frequently fly in for a visit?

WHERE DOES ONE START? SIGNAGE ETC.

Good evening. As a recent passenger arrival and a resident of Sydney, my wife and I were appalled that we could not ascertain/find directions to the shuttle bus to "Park & Pay" building on the periphery of the Airport. Your wandering attendants had no idea; NO signage. We were tired, it was late, and eventually found out that Park & pay are not allowed to erect signage. GREAT STUFF. How dumb is this. We found the bus boarding site - eventually, after walking from one end of airport to the other. How the hell are overseas strangers going to find their way around ??? Don't worry about them. They'll be gone soon !!!

Next - Sydney Airport is (or should) be the GATEWAY to Australia. What a miserable, boring looking place it is. Why? It's merely a commercial venture. NOTHING to make overseas or interstate visitors feel - this place is so beautiful. Weeds all over the place - not a flowering shrub/garden in sight. Have alook at Changi, Singapore etc. & others.

Smarten yourselves up and make this boring airport a bit more 'user' friendly, that we Australians can be proud of.

Or don't you care?? Too busy pocketing obscene salaries? Over to you.

Misleading information about Meredith Airport

There is no such thing as Meredith Airport. The proper name should be Lethbridge Airpark, Lethbridge, Victoria. Some how this information has been misleading Google Maps to have their place label wrongly for Lethbridge Airpark. This causes great grief for Mr. Baum, the owner of Lethbridge Airpark and to the members of Geelong Sports Aviators (aero club) who uses Google Maps.

Can someone of this website delete any reference of Meredith Airport please? We will thank you dearly.

re: Runway

It certainly seems that way, and Google is known to do that. But for the definitive answer, you'd have to ask Google since its their map.

Be prepared!!

Picture of

Charabah Airstrip

Dropped in the other day in the Foxbat. Nice Strip, sloping up towards the West. Approach was very bumpy with strong westerlies. If you overfly resort on arrival note that the resort is some 600ft higher than the Airstrip. Info says Elev. = 2200ft, but sign at airfield says 2000ft. Nice Resort. Reasonably priced, good food and friendly staff. Getting a bit old, but price / value ratio is good.
