Kyneton Aerodrome

Kyneton Aerodrome is a regional airport which is home to the Kyneton Aero Club and a base for many privately owned aircraft

re: Best aeroclub around.

Bloody narrow strip though, makes it a bit harder to judge your approach than average. Otherwise, good facilities and nice people.

Best aeroclub around.

This is my home aerodrome and its brilliant. If you ever get a chance to visit, do! Please note all circuits are to the east due to the 'fly neighborly' policy.

re: DH104 at YWAN

hi, just checking out the net and saw your request about the Dove at Wallan airfeild, the bad news is the engines were removed and sold on and the rest was sold to a collector, who collects old things, pity it ended up that way, it was a nice old girl, bit of a bitch to land in a good crosswind due to the riley conversion on the rudder slightly smaller than the normal rudder, there is one at the Morrabbin musem at morrabbin airport victoria, they might like to sell there`s as its only a static display rego VH-ABM,

regards

Steve

Former RAAF base

This airport is a former RAAF base, originally opened in 1940, and the only RAAF base built in Tasmania.

Bare Base

This is one of the RAAF's three "bare bases", ready for activation in case of a crisis.

Bare Base

This is one of the RAAF's three "bare bases" -- it's empty, but has all the infrastructure in place to be activated quickly in case of a crisis.

Good beach

Good beach nearby but track was hard to find!

Strip condition

The strip has recently been upgraded, including markers. It is very smooth.

Fuel

There seems to be differing rates for AVGAS. Might pay to ring ahead to negotiate.

Story about midair collision

This is a bit sensationalist, but it suggests that the VFR routes into Bankstown are too restricted for the safe flow of traffic:

Great Hide away

If you want to get a way from it all. This strip is just around 1000 km north from Perth. Well worth it!

Fools at the airport

probably the most small minded arrogant fools I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with.

Very dangerous place to fly due to the ultralights without radio doing as they please, and the idiots based there that think they are gods gift to aviation and hang around in small groups insulting pilots. Normally found in the bar flying....... because they can't in real life.

Don't bother stopping there unless you want to be insulted by fools.

First 747 to land at SYD

It was a cold windy rainy day in the early 70's

I had never seen a Jumbo land but it was clear he was landing LONG!

So long he ran off end of runway and nearly got in a fight with airport fuel lines!

I think USA pilot was given a ticket home.

Anyone have any additional info or an old photo from Sydney herald.

PS now live in the land of Boeing namely Seattle.

Picture of jordan200

cool art

The aboriginal art is very cool inside the airport. It's a shame there's no viewing area for passengers inside the terminal.

Picture of jordan200

Nice airport

This airport is not huge but does it's job. It has a very long runway for a regional city.

Picture of jordan200

Not well planned

This airport is not very well planned because of how the terminals are to far apart, and airport is very close to the city which is good and bad.

Picture of jordan200

Great airport

The runways are very easy to land on and there isn't has much traffic.

GOANA Air Safari

Did a C-172 checkout at Redcliffe with GOANA in 2002 before spending a week flying around the East Coast of Australia. Was issued an Australian Day VFR license on the basis of my Canadian license and a check flight with the GOANA chief pilot.

re: Tom Price Airport

Thanks for the correction. It's hard to find AU airport info, and a lot of what I have is inaccurate -- I've fixed the lat/lon as you suggested.

Picture of whatelyb

Tom Price Airport

Tom Price Airport is currently sparse of traffic, and only accommodates the Royal Flying Doctor's Service and a few recreational flyers who want to get up their practice. This used to be the main airport for Tom Price, however since the airport in Paraburdoo was built it has become somewhat disused. Plans are going ahead to rebuild the Tom Price airport however no estimated date has been given. Also the Latitude and Longtitude for this airport are somewhat incorrect. The correct coordinates are 22.746°S, 117.869°E at an altitude of approximately 700m (2300ft). Runway length is approximately 760m (2500ft).

Australia's busiest air base

This is the RAAF's busiest base by aircraft movements, and serves as an alternate landing site for the U.S. NASA space shuttles.

Re: Dunolly

I have my doubts about several of the airports that came from that particular user. I've got 529 Australian airports from him, so I'm reluctant to delete them all, but I'm also reluctant to verify them all.

Picture of david

re: Dunolly airstrip

I agree -- I can find no evidence anywhere that this airport exists. It came in some user-supplied data from navaid.com, but I'll probably delete it unless someone has a better source.

Picture of

Dunolly airstrip

So where is it? The coordinates seem to put me into a hillside of trees.

I can't seem to locate the airstrip in the surrounding area even though Google Earth is high definition.

Bunbury Aero Club

On arrival at the Bunbury Airport, be sure to call into the newly renovated Aero Club building. We are open 7 days a week and our pilot shop sells maps and charts. Come and say hi and have a drink on the deck for a great view of the strip!

The GA field for Hobart, just next to the International airport - so close they use the same tower.

Left Cambridge for a tour with Par Avion, www.paravion.com.au - to Melaleuca, a remote strip near Bathurst Harbour. It was just fantastic, this is really what flying is all about.
