re: ride to town

Sorry we missed your post but for future plans, the group is very active and most of the time there are members at the airport that would gladly help you in any way they can. You can always request a cab from the airfield to downtown Hamilton or any other destination.

Reply to @jasmantle: Yes! A really cool flight. I take off CYRP and land at Morrisburg .5h later. I cross the street and "voilà" ; I spend the afternoon at Upper Canada Village, with my sons...

update

FYI, Picton is still a PPR airport except for PEFC breakfast, second Sunday of each month and Father's Day breakfast. Also there is a new registration box beside the old gas pumps. Please fill out the form. No tiedown fee. No fuel available.

The runways are maintained but are 70 years old so are far from perfect. No snow removal. Flying club is active but own no a/c. There are about 7 a/c based here in the summer.

description

There still is a flying school here. Also about 15 a/c in the hanger. Fuel is available Mon. to Fri during business hours. After hours and on weekends you need your own key. Price is reasonable.

re: Fort Erie Airport

According to the CFS, the western 2,350 ft portion of the runway is still in use. If you zoom in on the satellite view, you'll see a faint "28" painted about a third of the way from the east end of the runway.

No complaints

I stopped here briefly during a training flight and found the terminal staff were fine. There is also wifi. Don't get stuck in the men's washroom! The fly in breakfast is now every third Sunday per the Brockville Flying Club website.

Great Lunch available!

My spouse, son and I flew to Arnprior from CYSH. The original plan was to walk over to Tim Horton's( About a 2K walk) for lunch. We decided to stay and have the home made soup and a hotdog at the Airport. The Soup was excellent and my son devoured the hotdog.

entering Canada

Hi there, I am ferrying a Twin Otter from the U.S.A on straight floats. Anyone know if Canada Customs can be convinced to come down here and clear us in?? Canadian registered aircraft with Canadian pilots. Jet fuel would be too much to ask for I'm guessing but... Please email @rocketmail.com> Thanks, Steve

Re: Airport facilities

Great place to do flight training. Lot's of room and not overly busy. Great little pizza/sub/coffee shop with tables inside and a nice deck with umbrellas outside. They do breakfast on weekends. Airport staff are helpful and terminal is nice. Could use a few pictures on the walls though.

Picture of

Fort Erie Airport

This airport is no longer in service. The airfield was apart of the fleet aircraft company. When they closed down at the end of world war two the field was no longer maintained. The runway is currently in rough condition but could be used for an emergency landing for an aircraft no larger than a king air 350. The runway is 10-28. On the 28 end it has FLEET as the runway heading number.

Picture of

Wind Turbines

Are wind turbines really planned for the runway area? That is what the Samsung project map says -- see "freewco dot blogspot dot ca" for information.

I am having trouble with this one. Is this correct?

Picture of

Not maintained

According to Tornados Resort, who owns the airport, it is not maintained.

re: 767-300

Sure, it could land and take-off from the 7002 feet of runway. It might be restricted to less than maximum take-off weight depending on the load and temperature. As for parking, according to the Canadian Flight Supplement (CFS), the only apron it would be allowed on is number 7 (north-west corner of the airport; not shown in the satellite shot) as all other aprons are restricted to aircraft with wingspans 118 feet or less. Apron 7 is restricted to aircraft with wingspans 170 feet or less.

re: Why is Toronto International Airport not customer frien

oh, you are so wrong!!!!!! First though, my question would be why do you travel with so much luggage that you cannot simply wheel it around for yourself?

Yesterday I was meeting a 13 year old who was on a five hour layover from Barcelona to Edmonton. I asked an airport employee if he could provide me with some information about where she would be so that I could meet her. He asked me to write a note for her, then he found her when the plane arrived, ensured that everything was well with her and later on purchased us drinks at Tim Horton's. I was friendly, not angry; my niece was polite; the employee was phenomenal. My niece had heard scare stories about Toronto (Edmonton apparently bashes Toronto too), but this simple act of 'niceness' gave her a wonderful introduction to our (my!) city. Maybe change your outlook and you will find more pleasant circumstances.

Picture of

Why is Toronto International Airport not customer friendly

It is always a pain to fly back into Toronto Airport despite the fact that it is an image builder for the city and country for so many visitors. First it is an expensive airport so the fees you pay are already one of the highest in the world. Second it is usually miles to walk from the plane up escalators, down escalators in a bland corridors and vast rooms. then you come to the immigration where the clueless personel trying to make orderly lines make you walk much further than necessary as necessary in a snake rather than individual lines. Then the insult of arriving after tiring journey and being asked to faddle about and pay $2 for a luggage cart. This last item is one of my tests for a civilised country. Most airports that I have visited mainly Europe offer free carts. Clearly Toronto airport is greedily money oriented rather than making customers happy. This really leaves a bad taste in the mouth. I am ashamed of Toronto airport because of its snivelling attitude. Try looking at airport users as humans you want to impress. It may be the most improved airport in Canada but it is still bottom of the pile.

airplane rides for children

Hi,

I attended an event with a non profit last year that offered an opportunity for children to have a short ride in a plane (for children who may not otherwise have this experience). Is that event happening again this year? If so, I'm wondering if I could talk to someone about this and how I can get my organization involved.

Thanks!

re: Stoney Creek Airport

I would like to park my airplane at this airport since I just moved to the area. Is there anybody I could talk to about bringing it there and parking outside with tiedowns? I can be contacted at j3dixon@hotmail.com. I was already speaking to Mr. Yaworski, but he is on holidays right now and I would like to bring it up this weekend if possible.

Thanks

I agree

This airpark is not properly maintained. I will not return. SW winds brutal. I understand from a local that it is always like that. St. Catharines is much more professional and close to Niagara on the Lake! Great food and great wine, plenty of ground transportation and lodgings. Just sayin....

Landing Fee's

First of all thanks @david for bring the facility fee for Glanford to my attention i did not know about that and would have been pretty upset if i were to show up their and get a bill like that for sure! Second I'm noticing that YHM is waiving it's landing fee's on certain occasions to attract GA traffic. does anyone know if the facility fee for certain places will be waived? or is their a place on the field to park were you wont get charged these " hidden fee's"

thanks in advance

Picture of

Grimsby Airpark

I wouldn't land here again. The runway is in poor shape. There are large trees at the north end which present a disconcerting challenge.

There are much nicer airparks in the area.

Sure movine a lot of dirt

So can you share with us what your plans for all that dirt that is being dumped non stop on your property? Sure making life miserable for your neighbours. We love the planes using our stand of pines to land, but the dust, dirt and all the trucks is a little unbearable.

So please share your plans!

Historic Exhibits

Once upon a time there were several exhibit panels detailing historic moments in aeronautical history in Kingston. They were very interesting. For some reason they were removed and I gather are now in storage. Why? They should be remounted and, frankly, in a more public area than just the security-closed-off departure lounge.

On a related matter - yes, Porter should fly into Kingston. I would make far greater use of our local airport if I could get into downtown Toronto directly. Flying into Pearson and then paying $50+ to get downtown (one way) is why I now take VIA, despite having to put up with commuting times that are much longer.

First Airport

Learned to fly out of the Island while working in Toronto. Used to live on a sailboat in the Center Island Marina and fly out of the Island airport. It was good livin'!

re: Good place to visit

Reply to @dazuppa: Correction - SE ramp mentioned above, sorry! :-)

Picture of dazuppa

Good place to visit

Brantford is very easy to find - an obvious triangular shape next to the only big town in the area. Wide, long, well-maintained runways and not so well maintained taxiways, huge ramps. A couple of semi-dismantled C-117 with square tails and oversized elevators at the end of the SW ramp (aviation buffs, check them out - those birds are rare now!) Reasonably busy, but with well-organized traffic and helpful unicom. A nice place to visit.

Picture of dazuppa

Crosswind runway and misc updates

A crosswind runway was recently completed, making Burlington really comfortable and easy to operate from. Maneuvering surfaces are in a very good shape, overall airport infrastructure looks better and better with every visit.

FBO status remains the same - sort of struggling through and not quite organized, missing a leading hand. Seen a King Air blasting the parked Cessnas (yes, he was doing a run-up next to the pumps, pointing its tail to the ramp within 60 ft). Advised the FBO folks, they refused to comment or take any action to prevent the damage of their own airplanes.

For the renters - add $10 to the prices from the Spectrum Airways website, this is called a "temporary fuel surcharge" or something like that, but looks like its a permanent thing in disguise.

re: Lovely Airstrip

Coordinates are 43.735 -80.447 (you can set them in google maps or your GPS). Flying, it is just NW from the town of Fergus, following Beatty Line across the river. Note that there is another, unrelated airstrip NE from Fergus - closer to the Belwood lake - and a couple of others, also unrelated fields just SE of the lake!

The only other information I have is that CPG7 "Fergus - Juergensen Field" (the airstrip we are talking about) is a home of the Chinook ultralights community (liftoffaviation.com) Hope that helps...
