New Airfield in final stages of development
New location for the historical Covilhã AirClub, which lost it's original infrastructure located 1km West to give way for the construction of a data center...
The runaway is mostly 'built', but consolidation works are still underway and is not yet open to the general public and is pending certification. The new HQs for the AirClub are located North accross the field the runway is in in the village's old Primary School building - a Windsock is visible on this building whcih helps identifying it!

Lisbon Airport
Humberto Delgado Airport is an international airport located seven kilometres northeast of the city centre of Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. The airport is the main international gateway to Portugal. As of 2021, it was the 16th-largest airport in Europe in terms of passenger volume, and carried 190,700,00 tonnes of cargo. It is an important European hub to Brazil, the largest European Star Alliance hub to South America and also a European hub to Africa.

Lisbon airport has consistently ranked dismally in customer satisfaction, with AirHelp polling it in last place amongst 132 airports in the world as of 2022. It is one of the most congested airports of Europe and one of the only major airports to have a runway directly over the city, notwithstanding plans to build a new airport elsewhere. These plans have for decades been postponed or suspended for a myriad of reasons.

This is a nice small airport with an interesting final approach and landing due to limited runway length.
Sad
The runway is in excelent condition. It has an upslope north to south.
The airport looks rather abandoned, with most of the buildings looking like they are falling apart and broken windows. Could be such a nice place.
Information
Altough the runway is in good condition, the weeds can be quite rough and tall, due to the restrictions they have in cutting the weeds due to the airfield being inside a natural reserve.
Beautiful scenery
The aerodrome is abandoned, but the runway is still in excelent condition.
It has an upslope west to east.
Expensive
Landing fees are around €12,50 per ton.
However, there is a nice restaurant within walking distance from the airfield.
Very narrow
The dirt runway has become unusable.
On the east there is quite a big hill, so a straight in is difficult.
The runway is rather narrow, with trees and bushes not far from the runway edge.
Obstacle Course
The runway has a huge upslope east to west. The west end of the runway is full of antennas with supporting wires reaching all the way to the runway edge. On the aproach end it is full of windmills so a continuous turn from base to the treshold has to be made.

In spite of the obstacles on both ends, it is not a difficult runway.

I landed there a few years ago but nowadays it is harder to spot the southeast limit and you really have to use it if you want to stop before the first road crossing because the ground is a bit uneven there.
Good condition
The trees feel a bit too close if you're doing a low pass but at landing speeds, coming in from East, it's perfectly safe.

Herdade do Pontal is a private runway with very little activity. It has more or less 8 ultralights based there.
The runway is in very good condition. There are obstacles on both ends of the runway, but the runway is long enough so is not a factor.
The beginning of the runway has a downslope, transitioning into an upslope.

3% upslope on runway 11. High trees on the final approach. With only 260m of runway it can be challenging.
Usable paved airstrip
Beware of a few things:
* There's a road crossing the strip, better call beforehand so that they close the road for your landing
* There's a tree hard to see tree (no leafs) right in your way when you come from North.
* The pavement has a little bump where the road crosses
* The pavement has some growing bushes but not a big deal

In 2016, it was announced that the airport would be renamed Madeira International Airport Cristiano Ronaldo in honour of Madeira native football player Cristiano Ronaldo.
Airstrip reopened!
Although not listed on Portuguese AIP's official sources yet (specifically the 'VFR Manual'), this airstrip has been reopened and certified since 2019 for ultra light/sport aircraft

The runway is closed and is divided by concrete blocks in 3 sections of ~300 meters, better avoid.

Cool that the electrical lines are buried where they cross the strip but you'll probably break your landing gear if you try to land here, it's full of huge potholes.

Private airstrip built in 2009. Has a dirt runway in very good condition.

Private agricultural airstrip of a nearby "monte". Using Google Earth's historical imagery function we can see the runway already existed by 2006, but it was extensively improved in 2010.

Airfield closed
Airfield closed to traffic since at least 5 years I believe. Has a public road crossing the former runway. A chapel on the site is dedicated to Our Lady of Loreto, considered the patron saint of air travellers and pilots by the Catholic Church.
