This airfield used to be used by the Pakenham Commando Skydivers (commandoskydivers.com.au), who have since moved their operations to Tooradin. YTDN
The Pakenham airfield will never open again, considering all of the housing, factories and other things that are on it now.
Good airfield in a small town
I am thinking of getting a plane to fly there
Go to Coldstream
The most UN friendly money grabbing airport ever, do yourself a favour and use Coldstream instead. All smiles and no mention of paying. GIVE LILYDALE A WIDE BERTH.
Fly in luncheons every Saturday!
Luncheons every Saturday at the GV Aero club rooms 12.30pm start, also Pancake breakfasts 1st Sunday of every month everybody welcome
Former site Pakenham airport, Australia
Well and truly closed. The former runway alignment lies under the path of Greendale Blvd, Arden Ave and Sandalwood drive and the houses on the southern side of these streets. It also extends under the Shanagolden village property. Sections of grasslands to on the northern side of the former runway have been preserved as green lands and are protected to some extent by the existence of native grasses (assumedly protected from grazing for many years by the existence of the former airport).
Aerochute Flying
Would it be possible to do some local flying with my Aerochute in the future , I am licened and the aircraft is Registered and has a VHF radio . Cheers Mark

Position
Casterton 16/34 is red brown and obvious around a mile further West of the green marker on the map; WSW of the Town
Status
Casterton is now a CFA Fire Bombing Base for Western Victoria with extensive facilities for continuous use during the Fire Season
At around 500ft ASL the main runway 16/34 rises significantly near the Northern (terminal) end and is nearly 4000ft of wide well groomed gravel - a very short grass cross strip would suit extreme crosswinds
The CTAF is 126.7 and beware the CFA operations will use other frequencies during a fire.
Avalon Uses
Emergency Management Victoria operate their Large Air Tanker (LAT) Airbase from Avalon
Flights from Avalon or Melbourne Airport to Tooradin?
Are there any flights from Avalon or Melb Airports to Tooradin - we have a wedding and coming from interstate?
THanks for your help...
another base
Great airport
lots of history and a great aviation museum with an Avro Anson. Nice bitumen runway. Airshow on in October 2015
Greed Greed and MORE GREED
The most greedy and cunning family operated airport ever, lies and more lies from the Owners Son, and the Mums worse, the lies start the moment they open their mouths, STAY AWAY,,,
No longer operational
Taken over by land developers about 2013(?)
RWY 27 & 09 narrow bitumen strip
If wind suits. Land RWY 27 which is slightly uphill. And depart RWY 09 slightly downhill.
Com frequency 126.7
Narrow bitumen strip.
After landing RWY 27 turn around at runway end during wet periods.
Trees either end of airstrip.
Great scenic location.
Lakes Entrance - flights to it
Do Charter flights operate in summer? Is Lakes Entrance a real airport for commercial flights of any sort or just for private planes?
Wineries
This is a great base to fly-in and visit area wineries. We had a great lunch once at Tahbilk, but there are lots of other cellar doors and restos around.
Hangarage at Romsey
Does any one know who to contact about hangarage out there?
Drove past it once
I would like to charter a plane to fly my wife and I from sydney to appollo bay for the weekend
Misleading use of another Airfields name
Whoever is managing the online presence of Romsey Airfield is deliberately misleading people by using Sunbury Airfield's name of "Penfield". The Penfield name comes from Alexander "Doc" Penny, who founded Penfield Airfield at 295 Settlement Road, Sunbury. You are also using Riddell Airfield's name, most likely without their permission. You are obviously doing this to gain more "Key Word" searches, so that people who are searching for Penfield or Riddell will be directed to your business, but what you are doing is illegal and false advertising. Please remove the false name from all your online listings immediately! Penfield Airfield Owner.
Penfield location
Penfield airfield is located at 295 Settlement Road Sunbury. Current google map has it a Romsey, this has been changed recently and was a mischievous act.
Penfield Airfield is the Airport for Sunbury Victoria 3429.
Penfield Airport is the Home to Penfield Flight School, Sunbury Paintball and Sunbury Stockfeed, the airport is owned by Vince and Wendy Goulthorpe and the CFI of Penfield Flight School is Terry Otway who is also the Airport Manager.
Contact number for the Airport Manager is 03 97404547
Penfield Airfield is 1150 feet above sea level and has two long grass runways, 18/36 1300 metres and 15/33 760 metres.
Penfield is 8km north of Sunbury and 35 minutes from the CBD via the Calder Highway.
I hope this information can be of some use to the moderator.
airstrip
The noise from planes using this airstrip is ruining the lives of people living in the area.

There is a bbq to be held for the hangar owners at B/M this weekend. Kicking off around 11 am. All local aircraft owners & Hangar owners are welcome. Venue Paul K's hangar (opposite the Flying School)
feedback appreciated
Hi anonymous you are welcome to call or enail at any time with your concerns as im a little confused where they come from given; we have no landing fees, we welcome anyone to drop in so long as they call first, our Avgas prices are cheaper than the neighbour and we have the best hire rates for RA and GA aircraft in Melbourne.
nav beacon
the Avalon NDB was decommissioned several years back
nav beacon
the NDB listed is off the air, decommissioned in 2011
Skydive centre
This airport is virtually a skydive centre these days.
Planes too noisy over farms
Would whoever runs the pilot training at Romsey airport show some consideration for nearby farmers and reduce the number of take off and landings into or from the north. Some days the you can't hear a person speaking to you as planes fly so low over our farm. Given that to the south of the airport there are no residences, please take off and land from that direction. If the wind isn't suitable then don't fly for training. Thanks. Patrick Francis Moffitts Farm
Distance from Berwick
How far from here it Berwick by road is the traffic bad?
Horrible People
Called in to check the place out, been listening for years about the evil greedy owners, met the wife and son of the owner,,,yep it's ALL TRUE,,, just two words of advice, STAY WELL AWAY.

Nice place to fly
A great place to fly, the only thing bad about this airport is the thermals from the forest to the east on runway 17/35
Updated runway condition April 2014
This is a private runway now and permission must be obtained from the owner. The details are in the AOPA or country airstrip guide. I landed and took off from the east/west runway with ease in my RV7. There are rocks protruding from the surface, but is still fine for light aircraft. This is a narrow strip being marginally wider than my wheels.
The owner says the North/South strip may be too rocky to use and he prefers people to use the East/West as it is longer as well.
This is current as of April 2014.
Enjoy!
AWS Freq
Could add this VHF frequency to list perhaps

Wonder why
Hangarage
Hi all,
Came across this thread and trying to find some updated info. I have a Pitts and am wondering if there is any available hangarage in Bacchus Marsh? He doesn't take up much space!
Many thanks.
Bad Owners
Flew in the to get fuel,,,, talk about rude and money hungry !!!! NEVER AGAIN.
Good little airport
This airport is very close to both Penfield & Romsey. The main strip is ashphalt 02/20 10 metres wide. Landing on 20 there is a small rise in the strip about 75 meters from the beginning.
Great facilities
Beautiful new terminal with excellent cafe, toilets and plane parking. Mildura is a great spot for a weekend getaway all year round. Have been there a few times and will certainly be back.
Helicopters all night long
Do the helicopters come from Tooradin? We have had them disturbing our sleep for the past three weeks or so. We live in Koo Wee Rup and can't find out whom to ask.

Tour?
My little boy absolutely loves aeroplanes and helicopters and I was wondering if it is possible to bring him down to look around and maybe sit in a plane?
Yea airport - Really? I'll give it a miss!
The location given for this "Airport" is right in the middle of the mountains and in amongst the trees! Tiger country! It is also on a bearing of approx 090 and 39 Nm out from Yea, across step mountains and a lake!
Rather than the "Zero" elevation given it appears to be around 3100 feet!
