re: Poor food choices

you serious ? Vancouver has to be the worse airport for Duty Free.....Bourbon and Cuban cigars they have NO idea and they move at a snails pace

gimme the east coast any day

Picture of

3.5 nauticals from les cedres

the airport is 3.5 nauticals from les cedres airport.....

I suspect possible conflicts in the patters if flying a large one.

Picture of

Poor food choices

Having a five hour wait for my connecting flight, I was disappointed with the lack of good sit down places to eat. The airport is okay but a bit dingy compared to Vancouver. Great city but dismal airport.

Since January 2013, there is now a $20 landing fee for light GA. Just got the bill. What a jip.

Friendly little airfield

Friendly place to stop, grass or snow. Great for tailwheel, ultralights. Picnic tables, bikes to go into town, washrooms and more.

re: Poor Dorval

Going back to Mirabel sounds like it would make a bad problem worse.

Picture of

Poor Dorval

Reopen Mirabel and shut down Dorval for good.

Picture of

Very scenic and great runway surface

beautiful approach over the water, there is a maintenance facility but the airport is usually pretty empty.

mostly floatplanes and taildraggers on the field, there is limited good parking for tricycle geared planes the dirt surfaces look like they go to mud in the rain.

Picture of

Dorval Customs Cattle Line

Going through Customs at Dorval - after you've walked through the maze to get in line - is so ridiculous that we no longer fly into Dorval. We would rather fly to an airport across the border and drive through customs. Much more relaxing and car rentals are much, much more reasonable than at the Dorval airport.

Aerial view

The airpark is far further along than you can tell from the Google Maps satellite view. Here's a recent aerial photo:

re: Kuujjuarapik Airport

Sorry about old RWY, it was 13/31

Picture of

Kuujjuarapik Airport

I have over 200 landings with the B737-200 and never had any problems with the RWY.

A precise approach and touchdown point is all you need.

BTW i flew into YGW when there were 2 strips before they condemned 03/21

Tower

They now have a two story octagon tower nearly finished with great views all around.

Runway one way only

A high tension powerline runs accross the runway 18 threshold. Landings are to the north only, takeoffs to the south only.

Closed permanently

The Cargair base at Lac Kaigamac is closed, fuel is available a few miles north at the Marina "Nautique" in St-Michel-des-Saints on Lac Taureau

Yup Laurentide is still around in Les Cedres.

The Best Poutine!

This was a flight just for the Poutine! WOW - 12bucks and you may have to dump fuel to get home - Huge and Tasty.

Worth the flight, worth the money - Airport is English Friendly too

re: Is 100 Octane Fuel Available?

According to the Canada Flight Supplement, CYPX does have 100LL available retail (extremely rare for an airport in the Canadian North). You need to give prior notice by calling 819-988-2625 during weekday hours, and have to give seven days advance notice if you plan to pay by credit card. More details in the CFS (which you should have if you're flying up that way).

Unfortunately, it's not like buying gas down south - you can't just show up, ask for a fill, and then hand over your VISA. Still, it beats having to negotiate privately to buy barrels of avgas.

Bring your swimwear

There is a public beach across the road from this great airport that has very clear water. Having to turn around on the upwind side over sloping terrain was interesting. The poutine served at the restaraunt is excellent and the Piper Cherokee "windsock" is worth the trip to stop here.

Picture of

Nice airport, nice scenery

Went there on a saturday, unfortunately the restaurant was not open right that moment. Nice personnel, no landing fees (was a private flight on a commercial-registered aircraft...).

The scenery is gorgeous with Mont Tremblant not too far.

Picture of

flying

I started flying there in the 70s, best experience at the time.

Is Laurentide Aviation still around?

Arrester cables at CYBG

Watch out for arrester cables about 1500 from the tresholds, used for fighter jets. Even when they are lowered they are not something you want to roll over at high speed, especially with light GA aircraft. There are orange markers on each side of the runway at the cable positions.

There is a 20$ passenger fee but the terminal has free wifi and a reasonably cheap restaurant.

Picture of

No AVGAS

Jet fuel only. No 100LL available. Nearest fuel station is Charlottetown CYYG.

Picture of

Worst Airport Ever

Let me list the reasons:

1)Last flight to Charlottetown always delayed. Always a different reason

2)Ground crew work for the Sopranos - if you land 1 minute early or or 1 minute late, the ground crew needs to be redispatched, forget it if lightning is seens 1000kms away, cus they are not going on the tarmac.

3)Small, dirty washrooms

4)Narrow congrested corridors

5)Terminal A under the tunnel is always sweltering hot

6)Terrrible food selection

Do you have any charter flight from La Tuque to Windigo, QC?

Re: Canada Customs

The St. Lazare airport is not a designated airport of entry for the Canadian Border Services Agency. Les Cedres airport to the south is an airport of entry designated for CANPASS permit holders only. Otherwise, you will need to clear at CYUL, CYMX, CYHU or CSE4 (Lachute).

Picture of

New restriction.

Does anyone know why valleyfield airport has a new restriction on private use.

Picture of

that is a great comment, I was wondering how the customs checks are done at St. LAzare airport??

Hi,

I want to read more.

Great food!

Flew three friends here from Rockcliffe CYRO for lunch. It was a Friday, about 1:30, when I arrived.

Very busy - there were helicopter arrivals and departures, as well as lots of movements of SE fixed wing. The flying club / restaurant is at the east end of the runway (no taxiway), and there were several overshoots due to traffic not having yet cleared the runway (CSE4 uses R28 whenever possible, which results in less backtracking that R10).

No issues with language - lots of english in the circuit, with some french.

And the food!!! I had a simple club sandwich, and it was tasty beyond belief. With a ton of well-cooked frend fries. Those that had the smoked meat sandwich also raved about the food.

re: re: project not approved

Reply to @AndreVenture:

Yesterday, at 9h45 the Supreme Court of Canada said that Aviation is under Federal juridiction ONLY!!!! The provincial and municipal governments have nothing to say about where and how to built an airport!!!

Picture of

Fast food within walking distance

There's a McD's and a Subway just northeast of the field, there might be some other places too...

Very scenic but was a bit bumpy when I visited (lots of hills around).

Picture of

No real food on location

Despite what the CFS says, the only food available at the airport is vending machine stuff (not real food IMHO)

re: re: project not approved

Now, I am a member of 'Our airports' and now I know who is ''the anonymous flyer''. David Megginson, the brave, who started this very interesting website explained me that anybody who writes a comment will be call '' anonymous fyer'' if he/she is not a member of this site!

I thought this could help others to understand the comments.

Reply to @david: Welcome! I will keep you posted.

The seaplane base is in the WAS (Water Aerodrome Supplement). The 2 runways will be finish, on 0-3/8 compacted stone dust, in 2 weeks. TC came a month ago for inspection and as soon as I put the windsock and markers they will put Pontiac Airpark in the CFS.

I sold 3 lots. A 4th one is coming soon. His architect plan is done!

I was supposed to built the clubhouse this year but I was too late. I did not want to built during the winter months. Next year!

I should check the web more often about the Pontiac Airpark. I will now!

Fly high!

Andre.

P.S. Note that there is a NOTAM in effect: No touch and go at the seaplane base.
