re: Obstacles
Thanks -- I've marked the airport as closed.
Birdsville Races
Birdsville races rained out September 2010, the town became a quagmire, mud, propstrikes and the digging out of planes. A nightmare.

Reply to @Ozguy:
If someone were to convince the locals to allow me to bring my warmblood horses with me, with the understanding that there'd be riding lessons, with dressage, showjumping, eventing, and even barrel racing, would that make the island more fun? Are there edible grasses on this island? Are there a bunch of flightless birds and super rare plants that a few hooves might accidently trample?
Obstacles
There is a fence and trees across the strip :(
Incorrect Elevation
YMBT is actually 1100' AMSL. Refer ERSA, plus I've landed there.
Refueling stop 1957
I seem to remember a beached or sunken Japanese ship partially sticking out of the water just off runway 10 when I landed there. It seems like we just stayed long enough to get fuel and then fly on to Japan. I was young lad then so it is hard to remember. Has anyone else seen it?
re: Closed?
Reply to @david
Yes - Berwick closed in 1995-96. Is now a university campus, though some remnants of the runway can stillbe seen, along with a couple of hangars.:
re: Closed?
Reply to @david:
Yes Pakenham is now closed. A freeway runs along what was the east-west runway.

Closed?
Received a report that this airport is closed, and the satellite view seems to confirm that.
Closed?
I received an e-mail that this airport is closed and that there's a road through it. I can see no evidence of the road in the satellite shot, but the "Map" view does show a road crossing the runway. I've marked it as closed for now - can any locals confirm?
Status unknown
Does this strip really exist?

Reply to @rdsair: very sad news.
re: One runway only
Reply to @ptomblin: I'll assume for now that that is the correct location.
re: One runway only
If you click "Show Points of Interest", is that marker on what you mean?
One runway only
The location on the picture is due south of the aeroplane icon. You can see the east/west runway just north of the buildings and hedgeline. It is actually at the CFA training facility.

airlines serving chuuk
what airlines serve chuuk int'l airport?
On the way to Victoria from Marcus.
Returning to Victoria from Perth, Port Lincoln and so on in company with another C172, we refueled at Aldinga and due to a deteriorating weather forecast for the Melbourne Geelong area, we elected to spend the night.
The person (lady) who seemed to be the manageress in the school could not have been more unhelpful with regard finding us some accommodation for the night.
Whilst thinking about what to do we met a really nice couple who own a hanger at Aldinga and they went out of their way to help us. Booked us into a lovely reasonably priced motel and picked us up in the morning and took us back to the airfield.
What rating should we give Aldinga? Gorgeous scenery and lovely location but not impressed with the service or unhelpful attitude.
re: YADG
You must be thinking about some other airport, or are you dreaming?
Beware
Very friendly if they can get some money off you. Otherwise arrogant, do not do as we do, do as we say. Fly odd circuits and illegal right hand circuits.
Exercise extreme caution when approaching and in the circuit as no consideration toward others.
DO NOT DO ANYTHING WRONG
You will either get abused or dobbed in to CASA.
2 rules, one for them and one for others.
Such a shame as is beautiful setting that deserves better.
Care Needed - John Ryner
Yes they have a reputation for dobbing aviators in to CASA – I was warned!
The school is called Adelaide Biplanes, they have some kind of mental problem.
Just stick to rules and you will be OK, there own students can do what they like.
Also beware of aircraft landing in any direction on any strip at the same time – its pretty crazy – well it was when I landed there a few time on my SA holiday.
Dobber
Don't do a go-round he flying school will ping you to CASA for low flying
In fact don't do anything wrong here - leafe that to them - two standards!!!!
re: Runway closure.
Thanks for the info - I've marked 18/36 as closed.
Runway closure.
the shire has recently (Feb 2010) errected a fence on the south side of the east west runway which runs across the north south runway.
the shire will nolonger maintain the north south runway and have placed out os service crosses along the north west runway.
Avgas at Cassidy International
Flying on a ferry flight with my new (used) Saratoga from USA to Australia and the ferry company has scheduled landing at Cassidy for fuel. If there is no avgas then I won't be going any further. They always land there so I assume they arrange to ensure it is available.
USA Army Air Corps World War II
Dear Staff,
Do you have any information regarding the role of the Island of Tongareva during World War II? My Father was stationed there in 1942 or 43 to 1944. He helped to build a radar tower as part of his assigned duties. Thanks for any information you can provide.
Sincerely,
Vi Erickson

The airport itself is quite nice. When we arrived, they were out with a tractor mowing one of the strips. The airport is a bit of a hike from town which is probably the only down side. A quick coastal flight on arrival is always a good idea!
