Nice Airport

Seems to be very well maintained.

A very nice little restaurant with good prices.

Picture of

Nice place!

Nice field and great people! There is an RAA bbq there in early June this year.

Picture of

Rip Off!

Everything from the parking to the food/drink is overpriced!

Picture of

It was never that great, but has GONE DOWNHILL!

The last time I landed here was about 5 years ago and thought despite the negative reviews I would drop in recently. The recent reviews were accurate. Not certain who would buy it, but I won't be returning. St. Catharines airport is the best in the area with lots to do and good facilities! I wonder what happened on that plane crash that occurred there last year. Hushed up!

Beautiful Scenery

Landed here the other day, but took off fairly quickly. I wish I could have gotten out because it looks beautiful! Runway was clear and big, there was quite a few deer around the runway, we noticed once we landed. Not busy, at least when I had arrived!

Service

The staff is great but building is old

NOTAM.

My Trans Can approval requires that I contact the sick kids heliport manager to post a NOTAM.

How can I contact this person?

Picture of

Great Service

Recently had a flight booked to Edmonton via Kingston, Toronto, Calgary and finally Edmonton. Upon check in, the staff voluntarily did a search for options and were successful in booking us on a more direct flight to Edmonton. As a result we arrived Edmonton 2 hours earlier. The staff at this small airport is friendly and accommodating. You can't beat the service at small airports! Thank you and thanks to Big Al from the flying club!

Murray Kot

What I want to say is that my father Owen Phillipps (Sabre Air) is now 100 and 5 months and sends Murray his very best wishes and tells me that he is one of the best.

Picture of

No Longer open to public

I Called and spoke with a very nice lady while looking for hangar space and she advised me they were allowing those who were there already to stay, but no longer accepting inbound flights as they want to keep private. FYI

Picture of

FIELD USAGE ?

Greeting to who will have knowledge of this field, is it open to Ultralight storage and use age, waiting for my CFS to arrive and check it for contact info.

Picture of

Great Runway

Great efficient airport, helpful Unicom and not a lot of traffic.

On airport restaurant Tilly's Cafe and Bakery well worth the

Tilley's Cafe and Bakery located in the terminal is a great spot to eat breakfast or lunch.

Just google it and you will find all the details.

Picture of

Old runways

Just spotted it while flying over this past week . Good to know in case of emergency landing is necessary

As of the fall of 2015. We lost the owner, Gord Farrow. The field is unknown at this time having to do with maintenance. .

Career Contact

Hello, is there someone I can contact regarding a possible career opportunity within the airfield?

Picture of

CYPQ PIREP

Restaurant onsite is very good. More than decent coffee, a yummy home-made soup, good sandwiches.

DO NOT BUY GAS HERE - it was $1.77+HST ($2.02) from teh ESSO truck. In contrast, the member price at Rockcliffe is $1.65 (and CYRP and CYSH are similar in price to CYRO).

Picture of david

Closed

Seems closed now though there are still some (shells of?) planes by the parking lot.

Picture of

Nice and big

I went there the other night, it was very quite at about 19:30 local time. The MF frequency was unmanned but just used it as an uncontrolled airport. Very easy to see at night, lights are sufficient. Keep in mind that runway 05 has a displaced threshold, it is lighted very well to show you it is displaced.

Lunch Option

You can fly in and take a cab (or bike) to the Winery. It has a deli/counter which sells raw meats which you can then cook yourself on a BBQ (free to use) in the pavilion with picnic tables etc. Great idea!

Picture of

Flyboys closed

We flew in yesterday hoping for some food but found out that the Flyboys grille has been closed for a couple years. The runway is gravel but very smooth.

Picture of

Not GA friendly

No one is allowed to land here. What a joke. Way to let GA grow in Canada ya idiot.

Picture of

This airport is no more.

It's not pinin'! it's passed on! This airport is no more! It has ceased to be! It's expired and gone to meet 'is maker! It's a stiff! Bereft of life, it rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed it to the perch it'd be pushing up the daisies! It's metabolic processes are now 'istory! It's off the twig! It's kicked the bucket, it's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisible!! THIS IS AN EX-AIRPORT!!'

Picture of

is there any service providing float plane charters out of N

If anyone knows of anyone, please have them contact me - Matt Arnold - mharnold1@outlook.com or mobile 201 774 4746 thx!!!!

Picture of

Thought I would try it....

I should have listened. Waste of time! Rude worker or owner! I don't know which. Guess they are trying to sell it so don't care anymore. Who would buy it in its current shape???? Niagara on the Lake is THE place to go and just a few minutes away as the plane flies!!!!

Great little airport - Noone home

Arrived on Friday evening at ~6pm from Barrie. No one was home to answer unicom. Landed and the terminal was empty, they close at 5pm but leave the front open for transient pilots to use the washrooms, get coffee, or borrow a bike if need be. Beware that means there is no one for the fuel pumps and it is $100 to call out (on top of fuel, not waved for min purchase) so if you're arriving after 5 plan accordingly for fuel.

Take off over lake Erie was fun! Great airport, will be back!

Picture of

Petawawa NDB (YWA)

I just wanted to state that I've also bin able to hear YWA even in the warmer months, although not as often and not as strong as in the Winter. Additionally, in the warmer months there is usually lightening strike noise to contend with. I monitor 516 kHz several times each night for YWA and about one every two weeks or so in the warmer months I cam hear it. More frequently I hear NAVTEX in 518 coming through all year round. I monitor YWA for year round MF propagation study. 73, George N2CG

Picture of

Agreed - Better places to land

Much better to go to NOTL. Better shape, more to do in local area. I won't land here again.

Picture of

YWA NDB

I heard the NDB this morning 6/6/15 at 0818z on 520KHz from St. Johns, Michigan (grid locator EN73) 520 is as low as I can get my cheapie grundig receiver to go. -Todd KB8OYR

Picture of

Guelph airport status May 2015

There are 2 runways: 32/14 is night lit and free to all use; 23/05 is blocked to training due to high trees on approach to 23; there is a parallel grass strip at 23/05. Brampton is no longer training in Guelph, Kitchener may use the 32/14 runway for training. Low lead 100 available, but no source for oil; AME not often on the field.

The restaurant is open and satisfactorily busy.

Unicom (123.00) is not manned; another pilot might give help if requested.

3 point aviation with their tail wheel planes have moved to Kitchener as has the gyrocopter school. The "Tiger Boys" with their Tiger Moths are still located at Guelph.

Picture of

Menu updated

As the author of a previous post which recommended you do not stop here for food...it has become necessary to update my comments.

I stop here regularly for mogas and one recent evening as it was almost 2200 figured I would try the restaurant. (surprised to see it was still open!)

As I sat down I just said 'burger and fries please'....its usually at that point that I get told that I am in a 'bistro'..and presented with a menu of things like squid gizzard and such. Not tonight

Apparently the menu has been greatly re-tuned (or de-tuned)...now appearing.....burgers, fish&chips etc (all of my favorites!!)

Everything is still 'a-la-bistro' (squareplate fancypants)...but in the case of their burger and fries....that now means 'super-awesome!'

Very highly recommended!!! and service is A++

Picture of

Port Hope (Peter's Field)

Very nice grass runways, impeccably kept. North end of North-south runways is being widened and elevated slightly.

Alban Airport

Does anyone know if Alban Airport will re-open in 2015?

Friendly airport - Great owner!

We, Harry(Zodiac 600) and a Roy(Challenger II), landed at this field as a diversion due to weather and picked up by a friendly pilot (Rick) who lives in town and offered us a place to spend night. Came back later part of the day to tiedown the planes and were extreamly happy/pleased to see that the owner had already anchored and tied them for us :). Neat place to see the glider activity and a plane that they use to tow glider up.

Picture of

Really nice

A very nice airport, was there early March. There was no traffic, and someone answered my Unicom call for traffic and airport advisory! Runway 17/35 is very narrow and Threshold is in a bit of awkward position, but very nicely maintained! I would recommend this airport to anyone!

Picture of

Markham Airport CNU8

Great airport ,great training facilities and very friendly people. There is a lot of ex military fighter jets on display. I'd recommend this airport to everyone.

Picture of

FRom an active pilot based at this field

Length 1,950', width 120', elevation 820'. Runway well maintained, very smooth and grass is kept short. Clear approaches on both ends, wires on west end buried. Be aware of the road on west end, it is active and frequented by semis.

Glider club active dawn till dusk weekends during summer months. Usually we are running the running the power circuit opposite to the glider circuit. Procedure call 123.20 to announce arrival and check traffic. website greatlakesgliding dot com

Nice fascility - Unfriendly community

I did a fuel stop over from my flight to Baldwin from Qubec city here in summer 2013. Found the guy on unicom and in terminal very friendly but the pilot there renting a 172 there with his family was very dry and didnt even bother providing me any information when I requested. 'This is a club building' and I was not allwed to relax there for a bit. Ended up relaxing on grass outside the terminal listening to the radio inside.

In short, a great airport for stop over but be prepared to ignore some of the roughest or dry aviation people in the club side of the airport that I have ever come accross.

Picture of Pilotharry

Ultralighter's Heaven

This is a small airport with lots of lively aviation spirit in it. Lots of challengers becuse of a challenger builder, inspector and a instructor on site. Also a home base for the Advanced ultralight SONEX aircraft. This is one airport where you will find minimum 'dead' aircrafts sitting collecting sun or dust. Very helpful community and the parachute school loves pilots who talk to them on radio. A easy airport to fly in, provided you talk to unicom and clear your intentions.

Picture of Pilotharry

Rough Surface - Nice Airport

To make the matters worse, there is a drain hole in the middle of the runway about 1/3 from the east. Its marked by a flag on the north side edge of the runway. So, If you are landing with a taildragger, try to stick close to the southern edge. Used to be a very nice flying community there but things are looking to go downside. I hope that it will re-emerge into life.

Picture of Pilotharry

Must visit ariport

Great fascilities, very friendly staff, active unicom and resonable priced restaurant for awesome breakfast. i am frequent visitor there and many times with ultralights. Makes for a great fuel stop over for longer cross countires. If the winds are more from south, expect some weird turbulence on short final for 13 due to brush line or trees. I prefer landing long in that situation. HAPPY FLYING!

Picture of Pilotharry

Great Airport - A good alternate if the winds are high.

This is a great airoport to visit and fuel prices are resonable for a fuel stop. In line with others, the restaurant is more of a fancy restaurant user primarily by road traffic rather then pilots ...specially the economical ones like me. A fish n; chips or bugers to menu would make a good addition for having fliers drop in.
