Landing fees for small private general aviation aircraft

If you own a Cessna, Piper, Beach or ultralight aircraft be prepared to pay landing fees, stay away and spend your money at a community that welcomes your flying business .

I bought gas and later got a landing fee charge sent to me by mail.

Free and friendly

This is a very nice, clean and friendly airport with no landing fees for private aircraft. I've landed here a few times for cheap fuel. Additionally it is a great starting place to fly around one of the most beautiful landscape areas in Canada.

It's the summer of 2013 and the flying is great, people in Nova Scotia are very friendly, courteous and so easy going.

Great gateway for Jasper & Prince George

Have stopped here several times. Usually deserted, but once met the friendly guy who does charter flights over Jasper and Mt. Robson. Nice place for a stretch and rest coming or going between Rockies and prairies.

Good service received

On Monday July 19th myself and a friend flew into Port Elgin airport. The plan was to go to lunch at Lord Elgin Fish and Chip Restaurant.

The gentleman on duty at the airfield, I believe his name was Bill , was kind enough to drop us at the restaurant on his way home for lunch, and then

pick us up on his return to work.

I needed fuel so I started up my plane and taxied over to the fuel pump. All gassed up now, and I was faced with a dead battery.

No worries . Bill initially tried to hand prop the plane , when that was unsuccessful he tried to charge the dead battery from the one in his truck. Unfortunately that didn’t work either , so he then boosted me with the truck. The engine roared to life and off we went.

Just wanted to thank him again for going above and beyond the call . Thanks Bill !!

Hi,

We are tried to calling and it said the phone number was disconnected. Can you please provide us with the correct phone number? We are interested in landing at the airport when we fly out to Shuswap.

Thank you for your help,

Crop dusters

Any regulations for crop dusters? One is flying so low over our house and trees. We have a licensed wildlife rehab and bird sanctuary, and our birds are actually getting hurt trying to avoid his regular low flyovers. Number C-GFTS.

Picture of

3.5 nauticals from les cedres

the airport is 3.5 nauticals from les cedres airport.....

I suspect possible conflicts in the patters if flying a large one.

re: Hastings Field

I'm trying to find the name of the person who recently cut the airstrip in Jul 2013. I own a nearby one-acre field in Port Washington which desperately needs cutting and can't find anyone to do it.

Thanks,

Jan

re: Close to Edmonton and price of fuel

Cooking Lake Airport is now being operated by the hanger owners at Cooking Lake. The owners took over the airport from Edmonton Airports on October 1, 2012. The airport does not receive any grants from local (Strathcona) or provincial governments - unlike many of the other airports across the country. The airport is home to 73 hangers and around 200 aircraft. There is a new website for the airport - cookinglakeairport.com

Service at Porter FBO. Wow.

Date of trip: 2013-06-15. Outstanding service. They'll drive you from the FBO to the ferry, and there is an FBO phone so you can call them to come pick you up. It's about 5 minute walk west, then south, if you choose to forego the drive. Then you can take the Porter shuttle bus to the area of the Royal York,a nd catch the subway (or a taxi) from there.

Fuel (100LL) was $2.00/litre plus 13% HST. Ouch.

Parking on the Porter ramp was n/c for less than an hour, or $25 for a day, or $35 for overnight (all plus 13% HST). I arrives at 11am Saturday, and did not leave until 8pm Sunday, they charged me for one overnight. For that length of time, that's less expensive than parking my car at a downtown Toronto hotel.

Landing fees at CYTZ are currently $11 (probably plus tax - have not received that in the mail as yet).

End Of Life

Meadowbank mine should arrive to EOL in 2018. The airstrip will be closed during the restoration process after the mine closure. Expect the runway to disappear at the end of 2018 or in the beginning of 2019

Boundary Bay Airport (CZBB)

Lovely airport

Nice and quiet mountainous airport - located in a beautiful valley, with excellent runway, very well cared about, and just slightly challenging approaches due to elevated terrain surrounding the field. Nothing to be worried about if your plane can perform - and the scenery around is simply adorable! Note that you can easily barge into US airspace flying southbound, so keep your eyes open unless that was your plan...

Picture of dazuppa

Rough field

Been there a couple of weeks ago, mid-May '13, passed low and over. Fairly easy to find, though not many landmark features around. Looks like a private airstrip, currently not quite taken care of. It is listed in CFS, though without a chart - unusual! There was an empty hangar at the end of the airstrip, and southbound approach was almost over the rooftops of the farmers' house. I refrained from landing there due to a visibly rough and deteriorated surface - and that's a pity, as location is pretty neat. Hope this strip will recover at some point, heard rumors about that, but please check with the owner before arriving!

Birthday Surprise

This is going to be a very odd request, but I won't have an answer unless I ask. :)

Is it possible for a small plane to fly over a 1 acre property in Morriston just south of the 401, to drop small bags of candy for a child's birthday party? How much would it be?

Obviously the kids would be protected from any falling missiles once a specific time is arranged.

Thank you.

First Air friend reported drunken fss, drunken maintenance c

I was just chatting with a friend who works for First Air up in Resolute. He was telling me that this past fall the CARS guy was wasted at work and they had to wake him up. Then later the same week the maintenance guy was suspended for driving drunk on the airstrip. He was telling me that first air had a bad crash there last year, a 737. Loss of life/aircraft. He said the guys were playing video games in the office when it happened. The weather was way off from what the guy was reporting then (the same guy who was drunk and had to be woken up before). Somebody has to stand up and do something about this kind of lawless operation in the north. It's aviation for x sakes, not a janitorial business. Transport should run these northern communities directly to ensure they are operated up to standard. How many people are going to die or risk their lives before something is done?

Picture of Mick11

Pretty good

One of the 3 acceptable operations in the north. (Iquialiut and Rankin Inlet are the other two)

Picture of Mick11

re: Not the base for Borek but anyway

*should read rwy 14/32

Picture of Mick11

Not the base for Borek but anyway

Borek is based in Calgary. The have an ops in iqualiut and resolute. Forget landing here in anything but a gentle breeze. Tight approach rwy 35 i think. RWY17 is for CAVOK and calm, daylight only. Takeoff is 17 only. The strip has some soft spots, a small wheeled plane could definitely end up in trouble here. I can't remember how long the strip is but less than 2000'. Seldom staffed. Drunk weather guy, drunk maintenance. Or if you are lucky they are all together absent. The most unreliable operation I have seen (possibly tied with Coral Harbor NWT or Iglooklik.) That is a place that I would be happy and relieved to here a VGM from! Pathetic operation it is.

Picture of Mick11

Watch out!

The maintenance folk go on and off the strip whenever they feel like it. Radio man is clueless about it. I was taking off here once and just as I was turning at the button the truck casually meandered out on the runway. When he saw me (almost on top of the plane he darted back and forth like a deer in the lights kinda thing. I called up CARS and asked her to repeat the traffic. She said (cheerily) none to report. I said ok thanks, just checking...heh heh (shakes his head)

Picture of Mick11

Same old same old north of 60...

The weather guys here are clueless. Hard to get people to show up when you want them to, airport operation isn't what I would call 'safe'. Same all over Canada's north.
