Nice field close to Frankfurt

Strange combination of a CTR and uncontrolled field. Radar information comes from EDDF in the CTR but no positive control; only information for the guys in the tower. No ILS. Have to cancel when the field is in view. Had some horrific crashes on the approach from the east due to a rise in a forest that is basically invisible. Awesome restaurant and pleasant ground staff. S-Bahn takes you to downtown Frankfurt in about 30 minutes and EDDF is only a few minutes away with train or taxi. Home to Netjets.

Aegean-Olympic to reduce prices

In a recent press release following the acquisition of Olympic by Aegean, the company proposes (effective 1/12/2013) to reduce air ticket prices to €39 and to between 0-20€ (depending on the time of year) if your ongoing/incoming journey is on an Olympic/Aegean flight. If this is implemented, it's excellent news for Paros (also Naxos, and the other 10 Greek "public service routes").

Small but complete and efficient.

August 28, 2013: (11.10) flight OU 381 Croatia Airlines from Rome Fiumicino (FCO) to Split (SPU) with a Dehavilland Dash 8-400 turboprop aircraft. So, (13.00) flight from Split Resnik (SPU) for Zračna luka Zagreb (ZAG) Croatia. Zabreb airport is small but full of essential elements, efficient, clean and well organized. At the exit stop is always ahead of at least one of the Croatia Airlines bus which transposed the passengers to the terminal Autobusni kolodvor of Zagreb comfortably and on time. Very well. Closest AVGAS / Mogas supply for LICD Lampedusa Airport

Lampedusa is a small Italian island close to the Tunis and Libya FIR boundary. It is actually inside the Malta FIR and is situated approximately 95 Nm south/southwest of Malta. There is only AVTUR/JetA1 on Lampedusa. The closest supply of AVGAS/Mogas is at Malta LMML. Flying from Malta to Lampedusa typically takes 1 hour cruising at 95-100 Kts. So it can safely and easily be reached from Malta flying a heading of roughly 255. Apporaching Lampedusa (about half way there) be aware of the smaller island of Linosa about 20 Nm to its North which usually comes into view first and can be easily mistaken from a distance. There is no airstrip at Linosa.

Another island in this group is Pantelleria situated about 130Nm to the West/North West of Malta. This has 2 rwys but again only AVTUR/JetA1 - NO AVGAS. Pantelleria is the closest of the 3 islands to Sicily and also in the Malta FIR.

nice airport, nice place

Landing was 31 EUR for a C152 (2 people). Friendly staff.

Boat ride from the airport to Venice would cost 100 EUR ! Better head to Lido center on foot and use the Vaporetto station (waterbus).

Had some difficulties with the flight plan because the PC in the briefing room didn't send the flight plan.

Will come again !

Great Little Airfield

Kamenica nad Cirochow airport has just played host to the 12th FAI European Microlight Championships. Although very much a local provincial airfield it is set in a lovely area of Slovakia only 70+km south of the Polish and 35km west of the Ukrainian borders and just 8km to the east of the town of Humenne.

The airfields facilities are pretty basic but would provide a visiting pilot with most of their needs and requirements. The runway (07/25) is grass as are the taxi ways. Although in generally good condition they are both slightly uneven and bumpy and particularly rock hard in the summer! There is fuel available on site and a small bar/cafΓ© as well as toilets and some bunk rooms (available by prior arrangements).

The village of Kamenica is of a reasonable size and boast a couple of small shops, a couple of bars a pretty reasonable restaurant and a great little ice cream kiosk as well as a take away pizza parlour....what more could you want.

If you are in the area take time to visit this little airfield and while there introduce yourself to the owner of the field Arnost Foff, you won't regret it!
