This is only a domestic airport, with only occasional flights to Pyongyang, so without international flights or enough passengers(5M+ usually if domestic only), despite its large facility, it is not a large airport.

It was planned to have six runways, with 2 of them 5000 m, 4 of them 4500 m. I don't understand why it was planned to be so long, but it would be really exciting if it were completed.

I was always really excited about the finish of the airport, but sadly, the construction was abandoned. Felipe Angeles is nice too and is way cheaper than building this one, but it's too far away from Mexico City. I hope at some day they could restart the construction because Mexico City really needs a large and close airport.

Renovated in 2024. There wasn't a terminal before the renovation; instead, it was two thatched cottages serving as the VIP passenger terminal, and the runway was gravel instead of paved asphalt. The airport is permanently closed and replaced by the Burton Nibbs International Airport in October 2024.
