Is this airport closed?

The markings are nearly worn off the pavement, and at least one road or path seems to cross it.

Wind farms

It's worth a trip to the Pincher Creek airport to check out the wind farms in the area. And you'll get a close up look at a wind turbine on the north side of the airport on the downwind for runway 07.

Airport closed 30 April 2008

The airport was closed on 30 April, 2008, with plans to develop a business park. A heliport will stay open, however, for police and medevac use only.

Closed?

I've marked this closed for now, based on the state of the pavement, and what seems to be bushes growing through the cracks on the runway. Does anyone know otherwise?

That's an OLD image!

The satellite image provided is more than 4 years old! KMRN now has new hangar buildings, a parallel taxiway from the mid-field ramp at taxiway C to the end of RWY 21, new pavement markings, two helipads next to the FBO building, and the wind sock and segmented circle have been relocated.

re: Harrowing And Fond Memories

My primary flight training back in 1969-71 was out of LGA. The school was the long extinct La Guardia Flying Service. LGA being what it is meant we flew elsewhere for practicing t&g's and full stop landings. Lincoln Park was probably my favorite airport since I could get an idea of what making a carrier landing was like. If I remember correctly, the runway was gravel in those days and much shorter. Can anyone confirm this?

Oldest airport in the Czech Republic

According to Wikipedia, this is the oldest airport in the Czech Republic, built during World War I by the Austro-Hungarian empire, then used by the Germans in World War II for an aircraft factory. In 1918, when Czechoslovakia was created, it was the country's only airport. The city bought it from the military in 2004.

An emotion of a Vietnamese-American at the Tan Son Nhat airp

My nick name is TT, a Vietnamese-American, had come back to Vietnam for the Lunar New Year of 2009 and returned to the USA on Feb 04,2009.

When I checked in my luggages (10 boxes of a group of 5 people), I was informed that mine needed to be double-checked; then was ordered to come into the scanned- room. My friends and I went in and the officer there asked my friends to leave the room and signaled me for money (I thought this practice long gone). To avoid hassle with openning & repackaging those boxes (most of them food) I gave him $300,000VND; he looked at me and said that it's too little compared to my stuffs. I was so angry and ashamed with "my people" but of course I cannot denie his request. After my "payment" was made, every thing was going smoothly. I got out of that room speechless and kept on wondering myself "is that policy applied only to Vietnamese-Americans or to all people who pass by Tan Son Nhat and want to get out of the airport with a peaceful mind?" What an international airport it is! I don't think I will come back for another visit in the near future since I don't want to experience the same thing again. I need time to forget and regain my pride and respect for my people and country. Poor my Vietnamese and Vietnam!

Shamefully,

TT

Flyboys Restaurant

I would like to leave some comments on Flyboys restaurant at Mansfield Lahm (KMFD). I have always stopped in to KMFD on my travels to take a break, and I really enjoy the airport there. The Flyboys restaurant is without a doubt my favorite place to stop and eat. Heck I made a special trip one night and got weathered in. The employees in this place work really hard, and provide a great meal and great service. It is a family owned place and the owners and their children also help out. They are a riot and I always leave them a small tip as well. They are extremely friendly and whenever we walk in always ask "Where did you fly in from". It's kind of like the "Cheers" of flying. Anyway, I am sure, like other businesses, this place is also feeling the effects of our crappy economy, so I am asking all of you to help these guys out and fly in and have a great meal and conversation. I was there a week ago and heard that Flyboys is for sale. The owner is a military member from across the street at the guard base and his new position requires him to travel quite frequently, and is due to be deployed soon. It's very difficult to run a business from a distance, and I am sure even more difficult to run while still serving in the military. So, if anyone is interested in an already established business with the benefits of being on an airport, contact the manager Vickie or Kay at Flyboys and they can put you in contact with the owner. Thanks for your time. Be safe.

Main airport Nagorno-Karabakh

Stepanakert is the chief city in the breakaway republic of Nagorno-Karabakh, which is not currently under effective Azerbaijani government control, though it is still internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan. There are plans to bring in a scheduled flight between this airport and Yerevan, Armenia.

Well maintained grass field

This is a nice E/W field adjacent to Illinois Route 15 between Belleville, IL and East St. Louis, IL. Very easy to sight on due to diagonal SW/NE 4-lane highway right next to it. St. Elizabeth's Hospital is very quickly reached from here.

JKF Sucks

This has to be one of the worst airports it has ever been my misfortune to fly through. We had to queue outside in 100 degree heat to get to check as non of the automated check in booths was working. No staff to help!

Coming back - there is no direct wheel chair access from plane side to immigration meaning my wife and I were separated as she walked to immigration and I was wheeled out of the airport and backwards through customs and immigration to finally have our passports stamped.

The whole environment of the airport is dirty, dark and generally horrid, I will try really hard to never travel through here again.

Picture of ianturton

no air traffic control

There is however regular scheduled service to Washington DC, Detroit and Philadelphia from State College. Allegedly on home football game days this becomes the busiest uncontrolled airfield in the US/the world (depends on the source). The runway had to be lengthened to allow Michigan to land their enormous jet with the whole team and band on board.

Great Local Airport

LHZ has the cheapest fuel prices in eastern NC... and it is full service. Rob Southerland is new airport director.

Picture of Komatoast

New Restaurant

Coming soon is a new restaurant on the mezzanine level of the terminal. I was going to try it out -- but it was not opening until the following week. Looks like you'll have a great view of incoming traffic, you will be able to eat inside in the AC or outside on the lanai. On the south border of the airfield is a great walk-in pilot shop where you can buy just about anything you need.

Fly In To The Beach

If you have a day to kick around... great location to fly the family to the beach. Park your aircraft, load up the beach chairs and walk across the highway to the beach. Check the weather carefully as winds make it difficult to land here. Not attended and no services available.

Picture of Komatoast

Call Ahead

You should call ahead before flying in... no fuel available. Weather changes quickly -- no ASOS. Must register to park overnight, but stay is limited. No services available.

Picture of Komatoast

FBO Services

Stopped here at Landmark Aviation -- staff were extremely friendly. Free crew car available if you call ahead. Fuel a little pricey...

Picture of Komatoast

Fly In For Seafood

Anywhere in the vicinity... stop in here for fuel and fish. They'll give you a short ride into town to eat at Barbara Jeans Restaurant. Unbelievable value... you'll have to recheck your weight and balance after doing lunch at this place. They also have cheap self service fuel. Highly recommended.

FBO -- Nicest in the Area

Atlantic Aviation FBO just completed new terminal facility. Roomy crw space -- try out the massage loungers. Beautiful space... good service. Pleanty of ramp space for larger aircraft.

Picture of Komatoast

FBO Recommendation

Always used Atlantic Aviation... great service. Call ahead to reserve one of their crew cars. Plenty of ramp pace -- overnight parking free if you purchase fuel.

Picture of Komatoast

Perfect Landing Restaurant

This is a great place -- fly in park right in front on the ramp. Sometimes busy --- but fabulous airport eat place. Decent prices; free aircraft parking. My favorite is their wings club sandwich.

Picture of Komatoast

Blue Sky Bistro

Stop in to eat at Blue Sky Bistro... great sandwiches and breakfast food. Not open weekends. Runway grill also on airport... OK if not too busy.

Picture of Komatoast

IFR Training Airport

If you need to keep your IFR currency... recommend flying to GSO... Tower will work with you -- great group... easy to work with.

Airport About History

The airport is owned by the University of North Carolina and is scheduled to close in 2010 to make room for campus expansion. Too bad -- nice airport.

Picture of Komatoast

Convenient to SE NC Beaches

Stop by and visit with Howie Franklin -- Airport Manager, who used to serve on Air Force One... His office is a museum. He loves visitors... even give you a discount on fuel.

Picture of Komatoast

Accommodating airport for Outer Bank Visitors

Great rustic terminal... great ramp service. Crew car available to run onto town for a meal... Call ahead, busy during the summer months. Overnight free with fuel purchase.

Picture of Komatoast

Cheap Fuel

Stop in to this quiet airport for some quick inexpensive self service fuel anywhere along the Atlantic coast corridor... great intermediate stop from NY to FL. Say high to George the airport manager... great service.

Picture of Komatoast

Decent eats right on the airport... pick a nice afternoon to fly in and enjoy the scenery and chocolate cake for dessert... Cheap fuel.

Picture of Komatoast

Lunch Buffet

Fly in... enjoy lunch at the neat terminal cafe... $8 all-you-can-eat. Sit outside and watch aircraft circle in the pattern. Worth the trip.
