Deesa airport

where is this airport located in what city?

Picture of

Safety

Is the airport safe due to its officials? Several reports about the near crash were in even our newspapers (in the Netherlands) published. Good advertising.

any updates about re-opening of Ma.Cristina Airport....

i guess it's a good thing to have the Balo-i Airport re-opened.it's not just good for Iligan City but for the whole Lanao Del Norte and some parts of Lanao Del Sur esp. Marawi City.based on passenger load in Cagayan De Oro Lumbia Airport,Lanao area comprises some 40-50% of passenger share, which could easily equal to 2 daily flights using modern turbo-prop aircrafts being used by major airlines in the country.the problem with RPMI is the security within the critical radius wherein the aircraft approaches the airport,as it has not been deemed secured yet.but overall, even if an international airport is coming soon in Laguindingan,i would say if Balo-i airport is open for commercial flight, then why would i travel more when i can fly from a nearer airport.hoping that some local leaders with great visions for the good of the whole Lanao areas would give some effort to have the airport re-opened.i guess the likes of Gov.Khalid Dimaporo, who's young with great plans for Lanao Del Norte could be a great instrument of re-opening the airport.and it's good to know that somebody from the Congress is trying to make a policy proposal about re-opening the airport.anyway i have info for RPMI although limited but i guess this would help a bit.i'll just e-mail it to you in a moment.

A Great Addition To Western Leyte Air Commuters

3.5 hours drive to TAC just to catch a flight for MNL, is no more. Wish that PAL would add extra flights.

good infra

very bad to see this city hasn't got a decent civil airport like jamshedpur . the authorities must look towards this as a challenge. please a build a civil airport for there are so many people here capable of going for airplanes and cannot do so just because of unavailability of it and go to ranchi and kolkatta.

Friendly people

The security guards before we got to check in taxed some cigarettes off my friend who had quite a few packets left. Pretty funny, but they were really friendly, so what do you do?

Maccas outside was much more affordable than any food options on the airside, and all the shopping prices are quite inflated compared to on the street.

We got stuck with a flight delay here, so ended up going back to Kuta beach for a couple of hours before returning for the flight. It's close by and cheap to get to.

Quite developed

I was surprised at the development of Chengdu's airport. Very modern, light and airy design - shopping and food options, some quite nice and not too expensive.

Plenty of fruit stalls before check-in to stock up on the local favourites also.

New terminal just opened April 2010

With all the preparations for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, Hongqiao Airport got a new terminal!

All very flash, with new connections to the line 2 of the subway which will also take you directly (in an hour and a half I've heard) out to Pudong International Airport.

Would be great to see more regional flights flying into Hongqiao in the future.

Staff

What an experience at this airport - I had heard other travellers experience so I put myself through it to get my own findings. Arriving at the airport no bad at all, ( As I had no food in my suitcase or valuable items. ) Departing however was a disgrace, First set of checking staff, asked me if I had any english notes and if not my suitcases would get opened. ( thats said to every person to get them all panicked ) I had 3 kids with me so didn't have the patience to tolerate this kind of talk from a man who was probably getting paid less then me. I told him to go ahead and open my suitcases. well as soon as that was said, he then instructed a woman staff member to go through my cases and slowly moved onto his next target And even after that every check that was done the staff have probably never craked a smile in the last 20 years. It;s obviously very hard for certain people of a certain degree to get to the grasp that, we too earn for a living, we work day and night and then pay for a ticket and fly over, its hard explaining that to humans that think money grows on

trees. Money talks not the truth...... now I know why such a word as corrupt is used.....

Still maintained?

I'm curious if this is still maintained as an emergency highway landing strip.

Picture of david

Probably closed

Looks like another former Soviet airstrip. The runway pavement is seriously decayed.

Picture of david

Closed?

There are no markings and no signs of aircraft, but the pavement looks like it may still be usable. I'm guessing this is another former Soviet airbase.

Picture of david

Closed

This airport appears to be closed -- the outline of the former runway is barely visible in the satellite view.

Picture of david

Closed?

From the advanced decay of the runway pavement, it looks like this airstrip (former Soviet airbase?) is closed. Can anyone confirm?

Picture of david

Former Soviet Base?

This looks like an abandoned Soviet airbase. There are no longer any markings on the runway, and some tracks seem to cross it, but it still looks usable. Does anyone know if this airstrip is still open?

Picture of

Can I get a flight to this airstrip

I'm not too far from this airfield and want to know if I can get a flight from Manila to here any help on this matter would be really appreciated kind rgds Steve

Vietnam-War era reliever

The US built this strip as a reliever for Nha Trang Air Base (VVNT) during the Vietnam War. In the satellite photo, it appears abandoned.

Picture of david

History

This was built as a US air base during the Vietnam war, and was captured by North Vietnam in 1975. The airport received major reconstruction during the early 2000s, and starting in 2004, it took over scheduled civilian air traffic for Nha Trang from VVNT.

Picture of david

Vietnam War

This was originally a French colonial air base built in 1949, and it served as a major US and South Vietnamese air base during the Vietnam War, until its capture in 1975. Until 2004, the base handled civilian traffic for Nha Trang as well, but that now goes through VVCR.

re: Name During WW2?

According to the Japanese-language Wikipedia article, this base was opened in 1942 for the Empire of Japan's Naval Air Corps, seized by US forces in 1945, and handed back over to the Japanese military in 1954 (where it later became the home of the JADF's "Blue Impulse" aerobatic team). There is no mention of what name the US might have used for the base during the occupation.

Name During WW2?

What was the name of this airport during ww@? I spent time ehere with the 11th Airborne, It would be intresting to see it now and talk about it, cfowler26@kc.rr.com
