Love this place, but it gets a little boggy in the winter
Best lunch
The terminal building is sometimes open, if not then you don't pay landing fees. If no ATC then you have to speak French & close your flight plan by calling Rennes or Brest. There is a gate at the left side of terminal, the current code is 1970 then lunch at the Routier cafΓ© 2 mins walk to the right, (spot the lorries!) Excellent value @ 13euros including wine, not that you will be drinking...
LIGHT ACROSS THE BAY
Good Morning
I am a retired Captain(KLM) and visit the Ny Alesund webcam daily. (I miss the webcam you used to have in the control tower)
The new high definition webcam looking out over the station often shows a small light just across the bay from the harbour. I am really curious as to who or what would be out there in such a remote place.
If you are able to satisfy my curiosity I would be very grateful to you.

Great airfield to plan an Italy/France leg.
This airfiled is located just few mile before Valle Argentera, the best point to cross using small airplanes the Italian France border.

Hi guys, beware, this is very expensive airport- for Cirrus SR22 - few hours standing, i pay together more than 600eur. 200eur for landing and parking and 400eur for handling( handled by Malev). And they dont make free cofee for you, just for pax :D

Ground transportation to Helsinki
There are trains (and buses, but I have no experience with them) going from HEL to Helsinki Central Railway Station in the city centre (Helsingin pÀÀrautatieasema). The trains take 25-30 minutes and both lines (I and P) go every 10 minutes. Information on the train is also given in english. One-way adult tickets are 5.50, 24h tickets for the region (including Helsinki, Vantaa, Espoo and Kauniainien) is 12 Euro. Tickets can be bought at the baggage claim area within the airport, at the train stations themselves (airport and railway station) or from a conductor in some trains (trains are marked, if there is or is no ticket sale available on the train or in which carrier). It is worth exploring the city of helsinki, if you have a longer layover.

Long time I did not experience such a lovely airport.... a dream!
