Entry Without VISA

Some countries permit certain nationalities to enter without an advance visa, but other conditions may apply for entry and the stay. For example, all nationalities in the European Union can generally freely travel from one country to another with almost no restrictions. Members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (or ASEAN) allow visa-free access to each other for business and tourism purposes. The United States allows certain nationals to enter under the Visa Waiver Program for tourism and business only, provided they fill out an online application prior to their arrival. Australia and Canada also have a similar system, in which certain nationals may apply online for an electronic visa without having to make a trip to the embassy.

Some countries still do not require transit visas for transits of certain lengths, such as Saudi Arabia (in airport, 18 hours), China, and the United Kingdom (only applies to certain visa required nationals).

If your destination allows others of your nationality in without a visa, don't automatically assume that you won't need one, especially if you are planning to stay for extended periods (i.e. to work, study or immigrate either temporarily or permanently). In fact, it's a good idea to inquire if you're traveling for any reason other than being a typical "tourist". This includes getting married, speaking to an audience or congregation (even if unpaid), journalism, research, professional photography, etc. Check to make certain of your status before entry. In some cases you may in fact need a visa, in others you may simply need to bring more documentation to the border. For example, Canada requires all non-visa nationals (apart from US Citizens living in a handful of border communities and who hold a special NEXUS expedited border clearance card) to present a letter of invitation if they're seeking entry for any reason outside the scope of traditional tourism - including visiting family or friends. Also, you may need a special visa if you visit remote areas where indigenous people live who are not part of the mainstream society (e.g. parts of the Amazon Basin, remote areas of Africa, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands off the coast of India, etc.)

VISA

A visa is a document, normally affixed within the passport, allowing the bearer or alien to apply for entry into the country in question. It simply allows the alien to travel to present himself or herself to an immigration officer at a designated port-of-entry. It does not guarantee entry into that country; the officer on the spot may still reject you. However, for many places not having a visa guarantees rejection at the border if you make it that far and is quite likely to prevent boarding an aircraft or ship to get there.

UNEMPLOYED

My sister and I are going to hk for 4 days. She's employed pero under job order lang while ako kakagraduate ko lang kaya unemployed pa. Tanong ko lang ano hinahanap ng IO, meron na kaming rt ticket tapos yung hotel mga a day or before pa kami magbook para just in case na ayaw namin sa hotel na yun pwede lang macancel agad without charge. First time din namin magtravel abroad.

Better to check with POEA muna kasi alam ko may attendan kang seminar and may Certificate na ibibigay sayo to prove na legal yung working visa mo.

If you have a working visa you can go directly to the nearest POEA office in your Area to process your working visa.

re: re: re: 10,000 Baht as Proof?

Reply to @Erv1986:

That time po ang dala ko is $400 plus may Peso pa akong dala. That is before pa yung sinasabi sa news na nabasa ko na hahanapan daw ng IO sa Thailand yung tourist ng 20,000 baht.

re: re: 10,000 Baht as Proof?

Dapat po talaga Baht ang currency or pwedi dollars? How much po ang minimum amount na pwedi ma carry cash during travel?

Picture of Erv1986

re: re: 10,000 Baht as Proof?

10,000 Baht as Proof?

Hello,

I have read that immigration in Thailand is going to look for 10,000 Baht "CASH" as proof of funds per person. Is that true? Is it possible to withdraw money before going to Thailand immigration? Thanks

Thank you lord

Very smooth experience with T3 IO today. Not even asked for my return ticket. Just gave my passport, boarding pass. No question asked either. Although, second time traveller na ako. single, female, 22 years old. Previous travel to France.

With OFW mom / first time traveler

Hello! Please help! :) ill be visiting qatar po for a month and my flight will be tomorrow i have all my documents complete, tickets, hotel reservation and im currently emp/return employed and im with the same flight with my mom kse she just had her 1 month vacation here sa phil and babalik na sya sa qatar at magksma kmi. Only in the Philippines...

That's so true! This matter should be raised directly to President Duterte, I think he and he alone can solve this problem. Remember that 'tanim bala' issue, it was solved when brought to his attention. This has been going on ever since I can remember and no president have ever solved it. The right to travel is one of the rights of every person and no one should take that away from us!

UAE BOUND, SOLO, UNEMPLOYED

Thank you po. Sana maging okay ang lahat at ndi na ako kwestyunin kc wala ako work dto.

Picture of

Will do...

Yes I still plan to go to Bangkok, and will bear that in mind. Pero magpapalamig muna ako, :) or baka mag-change country, perhaps Indonesia muna before going to Bangkok again.

Picture of

Suggestion

I'm happy din that I was able to uplift your spirit kahit papano. Would you try going to Bangkok again? Last punta ko dun was to watch a concert. Inask ako ng IO about it tapos dun nagfocus conversation naming haha! Why don't you try looking for an event and schedule your flight according to it? You can just print whatever posters you can find online to prove your claim. Hehe suggestion lang :)

Picture of

So true...

Sana naman, kasi to be honest, it's an experience I'm not sure I can move on from, nakakatrauma talaga s'ya. Sana what happened to your friend the second time, ganon din mangyari sa akin. Actually if I have the resources nga lang sana, I want to go as far as filing a case, but the smarter move would be just to let it go and let karma bite that IO in the a**!

Picture of

Second Immigration Officer

I forgot to mention din nga pala, it was not only the IO in the window desk who asked me questions, she had to refer me to another IO, had me answer a questionnaire in the office near the window desks, and that's where my nightmare began, I think that IO holds a higher position than those who stays at the window desks, he holds the final say whether those referred to him can board their planes or not. And you're right it's really the confidence that matters, it's just that, that was the first time that happened to me, sobrang nabigla ako, it felt humiliating, I also kept on looking at my watch kasi I think that happened 30 minutes my supposed boarding and that f*****g doesn't seem to care!

Picture of

I'm usually very confident...

I'm usually very confident, with my English speaking ability, I'm not boasting but I can say I am a fluent speaker, I was actually answering most of his questions in English but man oh man, that IO really made me lose the confidence in me especially with his tone and the manner of how he spoke, I mean there's a big difference between being a professional who's just doing your job and being just flatout mean and a power-tripper. What others have been saying about IOs are true, so sad I had to find out the hard way. Any idea what would happen to me next time I take on another trip abroad? Do you think they will be as strict to me as I have already a record?

Picture of

Madaming IO mahilig mangpowertrip (paulit ulit na tanong, mabusisi sa documents, paikot ikot tanong) pero yun kasi ang effective way para hulihin if nagsisinungaling ba yung tao. I don't get it bakit ka kakabahan if wala ka namang gagawing mali? I mean hindi mo ba kayang sumagot ng maayos and be confident? Build your confidence. Learn English and speak it fluently and most importantly, WAG NA WAG KANG MATATAKOT SA IO.

Based on my experience ganito madalas scenario ko sa harap ng IO:

IO: san ka pupunta? (while looking at my ticket and passport)

Me: (name of country)

IO: Sino kasama mo?

Me: I'll be travelling solo po sir/maam

IO: Bakit ka pupunta dun?

Me: I just wanna visit the country's historical sites (I like answering it specifically to my purpose - concerts, tourist attractions, aattend ng event, etc.)

IO: Saan mo nalaman about dyan? (I find it weird kapag tinatanong to pero just answer it anyway)

Me: History Channel (HAHAHAH ODIBA PASOK)

......

IO: (tatak passport and picture time na)

Me: Thank you sir/maam!

Odiba? Basta wag ka lang kabahan. Madalas ako matapat sa IO na masungit kahit anong iwas ko haha pero palagi ko lang iniisip na wala silang magagawa para harangin ako kaya just answer them ng maayos and you'll be fine.

re: COMPLETE DOCUMENTS PERO KABADO/DI MAKASAGOT NG MAAYOS =

Tama ka sis ..

Picture of

re: @Erv1986

I feel you sis. Saklap talaga. Tsk tsk. Let alone the gastos sa accommodations, ticket, etc.

any suggestion what to write on the occupation before handing out the form to the IO. I'm a newly grad kasi and di pa ako nagkakanap ng trabaho.

2nd time traveler

Hi. I'm a second time traveler. I went to HK last year. Do u think maiinterrogate pa ako since magttravel ako sa South East asia for almost a month? Thanks.

FIRST TIME TO TRAVEL ABROAD (Europe)

I want to share what happened when my friend and I travelled to Europe last June 17.

NAIA Terminal 1 kami. Second time ko na aalis ng bansa while yung friend ko eh first time pa lang. As in bago at wala pang tatak passport nya.

(My case)

IO: Saan ka pupunta? At sino pupuntahan mo dun?

IO: may work ka? Ano work mo?

Ako: (stated my job)

IO: Gaano kana katagal sa work mo?

Then tatak na.
