Least favorite airport in Virginia

Sorry to say, but this is my least favorite airport in VA, and there's only three now that I haven't hit yet. The controllers were inattentive, unresponsive, and kind of rude. When asked which rwy I wanted on arrival, I said 34L. Got cleared for 34R. Later, Clearance Del left me idling in the heat for at least 5 minutes, claiming to be looking for my flight plan, which was in the system, and the estimated departure time I'd filed was right on the money. I was glad to get out of there, and I won't be back. I feel sorry for VFR pilots who have to fly up there in that SFRA mess.

re: wyalkatchem airport

If you have complaints about an airport, could you provide details to help other visitors (and the airport owners, if they want to improve)? For example, did you think the fees were too high, the gas too expensive, the service too slow, facilities not well-maintained?

Scheduled Passenger Service

United Express operates flights from Yampa to Denver quite regularly. Most other airlines like American, Continental, Delta, and Frontier fly seasonal routes here to and from their main hubs. It's the only airport in NW Colorado to offer passenger service.

wildlife

I just wanted to thank you for killing all of our turkeys and deer with out even trying to solve the problem in other ways. There are sprays that can be used to discourage deer from wanting to eat your run way. The tall grass around your runway should be kept low, this would not allow the animals to feel as safe. Simple harrasment with blanks would do wonders. or best yet fencing the property would be the best answer. but killing them all, come on use some sense and this could be solved in a much less abrasive manor.

Aldinga Airport

I flew into Aldinga today, took a friend for a scenic flight along the coast and dropped in for lunch. I have always found the people to be extremely helpful and friendly. After our lunch we went back to the aircraft only to find it wouldnt start. The people at the airfield could not do enough to help us, finding me a new starter motor and a LAME to install. I cant talk more highly of them. :)

Flying into Springbank

I just flew into the Springbank airport for the first time about 2 weeks ago while on a cross-country from Abbotsford to Calgary. I agree that the approach process is a little complicated, especially while coming from the South (you end up talking to Calgary Terminal, which then hands you over to Springbank), but nothing terrible - if you've never dealt with a controlled airport before, it might take a bit of getting used to, but otherwise it was fine. Calgary Terminal was very friendly - when they asked me to report over a local point, I just told them I wasn't familiar with the airport, and they gave me vectors all the way in. Wouldn't hesitate to go back. Springbank was also friendly, providing ground directions & advice.

Expensive Travel

What would it take to get some competition for flights to/from Traverse City? It costs $300-500 more to fly in and out of Traverse City than other cities within a 2 hr drive.

Picture of

Complaint

It is a great idea and it is very useful to track flights, however it is disrespectful to keep this kind of information if it is not updated. I checked right now the Avior (9V) 1220 Flight departuring from Barcelona, Venezuela and it appears scheduled, and really it is delayed. and the delay is more than one hour.

Closure why?

It doesn't make any sense that the FAA closed Bader Field. It was a great little airport servicing AC and was easy to get in an out of; no red tape, no long lines, just fun. The excuse of the tall buildings being too close was a load. We used to fly over the President Hotel all the time and no one ever got hurt. I don't think until the Citation incident that there was ever a situation. It was good enough for Lindbergh and the host of presidents and officials. So convenient, a real shame politics had to prevail......There will always be a place in my heart for Bader Field. Check out my latest book "Bader Field" by Carl David.......

re: Bader Field memories

I agree, having had many flights in and out of there over the years with my father. My latest book, "Bader Field" (Nightengale Press) is aptly named because that was the last place I saw my father. There is a good amount of flying in the book. (The cover has a shot of my Dad next to his last airplane (Aztec D) at Bader Field.

is it the school?

The school have been dobbed in for flying low circuits, touch and go's and general noise! Have only ever seen l/h circuits. Plus there are no local places to stay/taxi service so while she may have seemed unhelpful she was probably just breaking bad news. Was the fly in organised by adl biplanes or the aeroclub? As they say in thailand same same but different!

Picture of

Bader Field memories

Great memories of Bader Field. My solo flight in 1967 was one my greatest thrills. My first flight instructor was Joe Trappy who also was the GM of the field. Joe also taught my dad at Wings Field in 1945. To think that Bader was closed for "development" purposes just gets under my skin. It was a great place for a kid to learn and grow up.

One of the oldest airports

Chennai's airport is one of the oldest in India, and it does stand to that reputation. Enter the washroom and you will be back in 1950s!

The air conditioning is sometimes not sufficient even in the international departure! There is no internet connection availability.

Bring your swimwear

There is a public beach across the road from this great airport that has very clear water. Having to turn around on the upwind side over sloping terrain was interesting. The poutine served at the restaraunt is excellent and the Piper Cherokee "windsock" is worth the trip to stop here.

Picture of dazuppa

Business Port

Top-notch business airport. Terminal is much bigger inside than it looks from the outside. There is some GA life in and around, but it is obviously built for the big bucks and biz jets. Unicom is helpful and all the services are in place, just don't expect that cozy feeling of the local aviation community, etc. Lake Simcoe is a totally different category - and aparently a good one in what it is.

Picture of dazuppa

Busy GA Airport

Lots of GA activity, scenic location, big runway, well-maintained taxiways. A number of interesting machines parked around - from ultralights to PC-12. Helpful unicom and cozy terminal. Easy to find and nice place to visit, just keep an eye on the traffic!

Picture of dazuppa

Good place to visit

Google image is quite dated - currently the airport looks way better! Another runway added and the grass one is in a very decent condition. Ramp and the whole maneuvering area are well maintained and clean. This airport is home for a vintage aircraft restoration group, there are Tiger Moth, Canuck, Baby Ace and other fancy birds flying around. Overall - nice place to visit and check out those magic old planes, and chat with enthusiasts working on them.
