More cell phone charging ports

Please add many more charging ports/ electrical outlets, throughout the airport. Access to charging stations is very scarce, and then makes passengers agitated and argumentative with eachother. This is very important to update access to charging stations.

The dilapidated hangar (worst) has been removed. Normaway Inn is within walking distance via woods path or call and I'm sure someone will pick you up.

Runway not that bad

My CFI tried to scare me away from this airport because the runway is in poor condition. It really wasn't that bad. I'd say Sky King, Hobart and Orleans have worse runways in Indiana.

Airport with my last name!

Runway is reasonable condition

Picture of wolfgangx

Short Field!

Really cool airport. Runway is the only well maintained section as the rest of the pad is in poor condition. you could taxi around on it as it wasn't super jagged. Good place to practice short field technique.

On top of a hill

From the sky I was concerned about obstacles but after landing and taking off it is clear there are t really any on either end. Pattern altitude is higher than usual because of the hills/towers surrounding the field.

Picture of wolfgangx

Birds and trees!

When I was there in March there were thousands of birds just northwest of the runway. Obstacles on both ends so make sure to check your POH!

Nice FBO and great folks who are extremely helpful

Picture of wolfgangx

Narrow runway

First third of both runways was well paved with the middle section being older. At only 30 ft wide this was tricky to do with a crosswind

Picture of wolfgangx

New runway under construction!

When I landed on 3/2/19 it appeared the new runway just northwest of the old field was not yet operational. It had lines and numbers painted but there was something yellow on the end of each runway which I assume was a canvas X that the wind had blown into a bunch. I landed at the original field no problem.

Wally Hare’s Vision

This fabulous little airport is the vision of one man: Wally Hare. He obtained his ppl in the 1950’s and constructed the original two airstrips in 1958. It was his vision to redirect the strip to its current location. Wally’s family moved there in 1934 and he lived there almost until he died in 2013.

Controllers are great but...

At KORL... Due to Class B ceiling above and catering to the executive jets, a regular joe can wait at the end of the runway or be sent on a cross country while in the pattern just to accommodate a biz jet that hasn't yet made the IAF. It wastes tons of time. Neither MCO or SFB are convenient for quick business trips.

One day I was cleared to land same time a student was right below me on instruments. Tower was not aware. Thanks for the guy behind me turning base.
