Wonderful Service & Free to land Private Planes

Port Hawkesbury Airport - Landed there a few weeks ago and it was a pleasure! Recently they had new ownership and I have to say they are great! They are offering more then ever; including ice, water/Gatorade and always have coffee brewing. Staff was extremely accommodating and eager to help. They had competitive fuel prices and no landing fee for private aircrafts which is great! Will be back.

Shuswap Regional Airport (YSN/CZAM)

How and why Salmon Arm's airport got two very different codes beats me considering how consistent Canadian codes are.

Chalk it up to being Salmon Arm, I guess.

Latest for Greenbank ... from a flying in visitor

I flew into Greenbank airport on Sunday 24 September 2017. The main runway (Turf) was cut and serviceable. Marked by orange cones ... As far as (06/24) is concerned - It is gone.

There were a few aircraft parked on the field.

There is NO fuel. I attempted to get some - four times. The pump worked but the tanks were dry.

Fortunately I took my 2 gallon Jerry-can from my baggage compartment and walked to the nearby Shell Gas station and bought some MoGas. 3 trips.

Is this airport open ?

Seems the dirt dumping was stopped in April 2017.

Are the planes there in the hangers ?

With so much dirt being pushed around a lot would get into the hangers and on the planes.

What is the status of this airport ?

A hidden gem

What a great little airport, just minutes from Upper Canada village. Flew from CYRO for a nice relaxing afternoon with family. Heard lot of chatter from nearby traffic but no one in the pattern and just one aircraft parked at the airport. Truly a pilot controlled airport.

Picture of

Too expensive for me

Expensive fuel and many fees. Please avoid unless you own a jet and must go to old Quebec City. If you want to visit around you are better going to Trois-Riviere and rent a car.

Picture of

Nice tower folks

Rare small controlled airport around. Bilingual services. Nice down town area.

Picture of

Nice place

Nice people around. Same town feeling. Downtown Joliette is a real small city with all restaurants, hotels, cabs... Nice little terminal with a dynamic flight school. Cheap fuel available when the flight school is open. No restaurant on site, always some retired folks around to talk airplane with and help you. English spoken by most local French-Canadian pilots. Many ex-airline and ex-Military pilots here.

Picture of

Worn down, no one around, nothing around.

Better go somewhere else like CSU3, CSC3.

Picture of

Cheap fuel

The cheapest 100LL in the area. Busy on weekends. Watch out for parachute jumpers. Most local pilot speak/understand English. Just be clear and ask questions. No food around. Better go to Trois-Riviere or Bromont for good airport based restaurants.

Picture of

Good spot

English spoken, good place for 100LL and Jetfuel. Always someone around for fuel when the weather is ok to good. English is understood/spoken by all local pilot. Just be clear and ask questions if not sure. Not a good idea to be Nordo. Say your intention. Runway 20 is a right circuit. Just approach by the city side. Plenty of trikes and flight schools here for touch and goes.

Massage Chairs needed in all departure lounges

There are so many people that could benefit from using that easy boy style pay for use massage chairs not everyone has the time or the money to go to the spa was and people would really be able to benefit from this it's a no cost item the chairs pay for themselves if not make you a profit

Please in sure that these chairs are placed in all departure lounge is not just a long distance halls

Picture of

Nice stopover

Picture of

Rude and unorganized

Very disappointed with the lack of customer service and the overall lack of organization. Nearly every employee we interacted with was argumentative and sharp with every response. This ranged from airline employees to security to people stationed at customs. The airport is a disaster. I understand there is a remodel effort underway, but the floors of the airport are disgusting. There is very little seating if you happen to be trapped for extended periods. There were at least uniformed airport "security" that sat around for several hours just socializing. They were loud and were loudly using foul language. Maybe management should hang out one night and see what goes on. I hate having to rant about something, but this was by far the worst airport I have ever encountered.

Where can I find the official map of the Kingston Airfield?

I'm on the History Committee of the Kingscourt Community Association, and I'm looking into the history of the old airfield. Trying to find an official government map of the airfield -- tried NavCan, Dept of Transport, Archives Canada but no luck. I have the Kingston topographical map from 1931 that shows the runways, but I'd still like to see the official map of the airfield. Can you help?

BULL CRAP

Best and cheapest place near toronto and great place to fly from....the field is well maintained except in the winter too much snow but great for ski flying need a taxi to town about 15 min....

Picture of

OPEN TOO VISITORS??

I was wondering if visitors are welcome?

Picture of VE6TDH

Fuel

Credit cards not accepted at pump. Transient pilots must call in attendant with a special card. Then credit card is accepted manually by same attendent in terminal building. Had to wait about 15 minutes. The fact that credit cards are not accepted at the pump is not displayed, and we tried several times.

Taxi lineup and smoking area

I would like to suggest that YVR move the smoking area which is too close to the taxi line. Currently standing 20 deep (further to the previous comment) and it feels like we are breathing smoke directly from a cigarette. It isn't even windy. This is not acceptable.

Now to the lineup. How is it that there is a lot full of taxis and a lineup with NO cars in sight. This is a pattern that needs correcting.

Connecting from USA, in transit to Brazil

Not enough staff directing people and offering help. Came in from Pittsburgh, in transit to SΓ£o Paulo. I've never been thru YYZ. They told me to go downstairs to baggage claim. But that wasn't necessary- evidently I missed a turn, went out to the terminal, thru security again. I found the airport not easy to navigate. Of course I should have prepared better as well.

Yes. D. Gould was Don Gould and I recall his Cherokee. Lost track of him in the early 1980s. He learned to fly same time as me. Good to know his airplane is still doin' its thing all these years later. Hope Don is too!

Picture of

Maple Airport designator

Yes, the designator was N3G; rather obscure but as I recall it was in the Canada Air Pilot. Used to instruct there in the late 1970s. Wonderful memories of a great airport and a great bunch of guys!

Picture of

What a rip off

I just paid $9.25 for a regular coffee and a small bottle of water in the U.S. departure lounge. This is outrageous.

Picture of

What a shame!

Restaurant is great, and with renovations complete and the new school onsite, airport is now bee-hive of activity - but what was once a beautiful and accessible airport in cottage country has become a money grab for management (Loomex)

Price for fuel is also very high. There are no more GA friendly airport gestures ...including (but certainly not limited to) no more overnight tie down waived with fuel, no more waiving or reducing tie-down for aircraft unexpectedly grounded with mechanical issues or weathered in. Hangars are also nice but extremely expensive.

Everyone originally thought that the increase in volume would help keep costs down, but with Loomex (operating at their healthy margin) now involved with a back-office load of people, almost everything has a new (2x) cost. Anything remaining that does not - soon will. Same story at Lindsay but without renovations or a flying school.

Eight or more planes over Sydney?

What did I see?

One evening last year I witnessed a small plane lift off from this place. It was evening and dark and what caught my eye was the sphere being towed by this small airplane. It was internally lit an abou 5 feet across, perhaps 100' feet behind the plane. I watched it fly westward toward schomberg for about 10 minutes. Any ideas?

Great customer service from Windsor Airport's Ken Sawchuck

Letter to the Editor, Windsor Star, April 15th, 2017

Dear Sir / Madam,

In light of the recent United Air fiasco, I would like to share a similar circumstance that happened to me April 3rd at the Windsor Airport. I had purchased a priority assigned seat for the Sunwing flight from Windsor to Cancun scheduled to leave Monday April 3rd. Unfortunately, due to a number of different complications, the flight was overbooked by 1, and I, being the only single traveler was β€œbumped”. This could have been a disaster however, thanks to Ken Sawchuck at Windsor Airport, who handled the situation honestly and with great consideration for the significant impact it had on my vacation, alternate travel plans were agreed to. Sunwing has also promised to look into the matter and implement actions to correct the problem and prevent the same thing from happening to some-one else. Many thanks to Sunwing, an airline that does care about their customers and understands good customer service, to Ken Sawchuck who sensitively managed a difficult situation, my travel agent Jacqueline Poupard from Valente Travel who was a great resource and to Sunwing’s Yoanky Sosa who managed the details at Cayo Coco airport when I arrived at my alternate destination.

With Regards,

Jayne McMahon,

Windsor, Ontario.

Dining at Golf Course

I've flown down from CYRO a few times and gone for brunch at the golf course. There is a footpath off the end of RWY25 (be sure to keep an eye on the sky until you are well away from the threshold!) that leads straight to the clubhouse where they are very friendly and welcoming, and have a good menu.

As for the beach and picnic ground across the street - it is just a short walk, but as of August 2017 it was closed for tree chopping (emerald borers have killed a lot of the trees). It's run by the Parks of the St Lawrence, so call them first before promising the kids a fly & swim!

Picture of

Taxi's

The YVR department for controlling taxi cabs coming to pick up travelers at the airport should all be let go!

20 minute wait line! 60 people in line! No taxi cabs!

There are 300 to 400 taxi cabs in a holding area but no one is calling them.

World class airport with no taxi service.

Total BS

Bad airport for connections

If you're arriving at Terminal 1 and your connecting flight leaves from Terminal 3, you'll have to retrieve your checked baggage, exit the secure area, and line up again in the public security line in Terminal 3. Be warned.

Waiting or Dropping off Passengers?

Great Airport if you understand that the upper section near the visible front of the airport is more for buses, taxi and shuttles. It is much easier to unload or pickup a passenger by parking the vehicle near the entrance door in the 1st level parking lot. It is best your vehicle is parked here in case a plane or your passenger is delayed. When the parking kiosk is closed just print out and pay for parking at the machine on your way out just before the exit door to the parking lot. Keep your receipt to scan to open the gate. A bit different, just takes a little to get used to.
