Nice grass strip that's not used too much.

Took my brother and his wife out to get a tacoma that he had purchased. Chad was great and even cam out and marshaled me in to his back yard. The truck happed to be for sale at his next door neighbor.

Stopped in to drop off a passenger. Friendly attendant and wasn't too scary to fuel up

Always fun to add a new airport. Flew in for a family reunion. Was met by family but do have curtesy car.

re: NDB CCY 375 SHUTDOWN

Yes, one of my hobbies is listening/logging these NDBs (yes, weird) and it is almost daily NDBs are going off the air. The other NDB at this airport, IY 417 has been having technical troubles since February 2019. I think it is off air now or has a very weak signal. Also it was logged in Finland Jan 2017 - 4374mi/7039km.

Another problem is spammers leaving loooong boring off topic diatribes on this site.

Thanks. We're probably going to be removing the navaid information soon, because it's too hard to keep up to date with VORs and NDBs being decommissioned so fast. I'll miss them.

Reply to @ptomblin: I have an old paper copy of the official ICAO "Location Identifiers" doc (ICAO Doc 7910/128) from June 2008. It lists no identifier "KGVQ". The closest ones are "KGUS" (Grisson AFB) and "KGVW" (Kansas City, Richards-Gebaur Airport). I suspect that someone was using "ICAO" informally, as a synonym for "four-letter all-alpha identifier".

The confusion over ICAO identifiers, especially in the US, is the main reason that I went for "GPS code" instead with OurAirports.

Reply to @david: I don't trust that list, because it doesn't list Genesee County Airport, which changed its FAA id from 3G8 to GVQ because it had weather reporting and so therefore needed an ICAO identifier KGVQ. That happened when the US adopted METAR/TAF back in the late 1990s/early 2000s.

Reply to @david: http://www.activitae.com/cgi-bin/htmlSearch.pl - I don't know if this actually looks at the ICAO database, or if it just applies the standard rule to the FAA ids. But it lists KOWD (and not abominations like K7G0 like I've seen in some places).

Reply to @ptomblin: the problem is that the ICAO doesn't recognize all of the KXXX identifiers. For example, Norwood Airport (FAA: OWD) is referred to as "KOWD" in GPS databases, but AFAIK, there is no "KOWD" ICAO code.

Yes, that is correct. When an airport in the "lower 48" contiguous United States has an FAA id that consists of only letters, it also has an ICAO code that consists of a "K" plus those same three letters. I am not aware of any airport in the lower 48 that does not obey that rule. In Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and US possessions, the mapping is lot less regular.

I see some references to this field called KCJJ.

I was very disappointed with Hap's. You would think for an airport that size and an FBO that has been operating since 1946(or whatever the sign said) they would have better service. I landed here two times, once for fuel and lunch, and the second to stay overnight. Neither time did an employee bother to clean my windscreen. When I landed to overnight, a line guy met me on the ramp to ask about fuel and parking. I was unloading my bags as he drove away in the golf cart. A pilot that landed in a jet and parked next to my 172 offered to help me with my bags since I was alone and had three bags to carry.

I hope for Hap's sake a better service FBO doesn't start up at Ames, because they would lose business with any competition whatsoever.

There is a nice country style restaurant a short walk (or crew car drive) away.

ILS and VOR.

I've never been to the airport, but I remember Jay well from the aviation Usenet groups -- he seems like a good guy, and I'm glad to hear that the hotel is still working out well.
