FAA again

The FAA says that this is an airport, not a heliport, with both a 3100x60 turf runway 09/27, and a 50x50 turf helipad.

re: Weird

Well, it definitely looks like an airstrip in the satellite photo. I wonder where that site got the information, if not from the FAA?

re: Weird

Thanks, Paul. I've removed the airport codes for now, since they're probably not official.

Picture of ptomblin

Weird

This airport does not appear in the FAA data, but has another one "Moore Airpark" (TX54) very near by.

Picture of ptomblin

re: Weird

I send them emails when I notice something really strange, like the mix-up with KJUV becoming KXLL.

re: Weird

You know, Paul, if we get a good community organized, we could end up being a source for the FAA. With volunteer contributors, we can mobilize a lot more resources than they can for airport data management.

Picture of ptomblin

Weird

It's in the FAA data still, but with a remark "(ARPT STATUS) ARPT CLSD PERMLY." You'd think that since the Google map now shows the subdivision that they'd remove it.

North Texas Flight Academy

Last 8 years have been very unstable for this company. Too many new owners, poorly maintained aircraft and instructors that are sub-par. Plus, this airport is one of the worst to get into and around, not to mention the automotive traffic blocking taxiways. This company is cursed after its departure from Denton.

Decatur Jet Center

They have a couple of 152's and a Cessna 172 with G1000. Ask for Doug - he does a fantastic job. Highly Recommended.

US Flight Academy

Flight school with Cessna's, Diamond's and a Piper Warrior. They also have a twin-engine DA-42 and a Seneca. You can also get your Sport License in their Remons. Good people working there too. Recommended.

Cheap!

Gas is very inexpensive, self serve. Someone has wrapped several 2-3" sections of PVC pipe around the hoses, makes it very easy to maneuver. Nothing there in terms of amenities, but friendly folks!

Picture of rhoyle

Friendly folks

Great people, both FBOs were helpful to me when I stopped for a few days. Much less expensive than the International!

Picture of Apex

BE-20 CHARTER

Friendly people and cheap gas.. 3.50 a gal. for Jet A. Very quiet.

My base airport

Great GA airport on the edge of DFW. It's thriving: just renovated runway and plans for new tower next year, increasing traffic.

International terminal (D) renovations

The international terminal, terminal D, is getting $25M worth of renovations, including moving sidewalks, a new explosives-screening system, additional gates, and new restaurants and shops:

Saginaw Airport

Funny, it was still in the December FAA data set.

Picture of david

re: Saginaw Airport

Thanks for the info, sad as it is. I verified online that the airport is closed, and changed its status. Google maps still shows an on sat photo from before the subdivision.

Saginaw Airport

Is now closed with a subdivision on it, but was a real gem of Ft. Worth while operating.

Anyone can read this?

I'm a little confused here and I"m just writing this to see what happens

Grassroots flying

This is a very friendly, relaxed place to fly. Fuel is available and all are welcome. Please be advised that you fly in and out at your own risk. Private airport.

Great airport.

Easy to park easy to travel, costs only few bucks to add to your American or Continintal flight.

re: Lat Long off a bit

I can't make out an airport anywhere near there on the satellite shot. If someone can give more detailed info on the location, I'd be very grateful.

Picture of

Lat Long off a bit

The field is actually a little bit southwest of the indicated icon

Picture of

xa96

XA96 is the En Gedi ranch airport. Look to the south to the mesa and caliche. The runway is on the caliche strip. The white dots are gas well locations. Cattle may come to the sound of an airplane engine in the winter. Recommend low pass before landing. Monitor HHF weather and look at windmills lor local wind before landing. Experienced pilots only, but all welcome. Conventional gear recommended. Steve Vandiver telephone 806 683 2372.

Nice place to earn your wings.

Nice airport

Another good airport to practice instrument approaches as the folks working the tower are great.

Picture of MikeWasInTX

Attractions

If you have time when you stop here, there's a great aviation museum within walking distance.

Picture of MikeWasInTX

Good diner

There's a good little diner on the field here. Angelina County is also a good place to work on ILS and VOR approaches.

Picture of MikeWasInTX

Booming small airport

In 2004, there wasn't much here, but a few years later, this small airport looks a lot different. Say hi to Gary if you stop in.

Picture of MikeWasInTX

Good place to...

practice NDB approaches, as it's usually not too busy.

Picture of MikeWasInTX

Friendly crew

This is a great airport for training. The folks in the tower are very great. They're very accustomed to students, and will be very helpful (and patient). Well, at least they were every time I (or all my friends) flew there.

Picture of MikeWasInTX

Pickett House

There's usually not much going on at this (small) airport, but once you land here (if you have time), call the Pickett House restaurant. They'll come pick you up; then I hope you're hungry, as they offer some of the best homestyle (southern) cooking you can ask for. After you're done eating, they'll drive you back to the airport. You'll need to check your weight and balance though, as you may have added a few pounds :-)

Picture of MikeWasInTX

Nice airport

My former base of operations in Texas. Very friendly service at the newest FBO there, Galaxy Air. And, as David mentioned, Johnny (at Avionics Unlimited) does excellent work.

Picture of MikeWasInTX

Diner

I second David's remarks. The 50s diner here is excellent. The menu is simple, but the food is great, and the decor takes you back in time, complete with poodle skirts on the girls.

Picture of N729T

Rio Concho has good burgers

Get the bonanza and leave with AV Gas. I don't think they do the free burger with Avgas purchase anymore.

Picture of N729T

"Friendliest Airport" Great Cafe

Check out the Blue Hanger Cafe...and one of the few Tetrahedron "wind socks" I've ever seen.

Nice place.

Picture of N729T

Sometimes Underwater... Like now July 2007

If it's been raining for months on end, Lake Lewisville may swallow the South end of the runway.

Picture of N729T

The Greatest $100 Hmaburger Airport ever!

30, Count them 30 restaurants within walking distant of the North West transient ramp, and an Upscale mall to boot. Also adjacent to a Home Depot, a Cost-co, and a Super-Duper Walmart. There is nothing you can't fly to at this airport. Right traffic to 34 and Call Addison KADS 126.0 in bound listen to Addison atis on 133.4 and follow the directions for inbound to ADS, then tell them you're going to Airpark.

Picture of

GREAT airport ... GREAT service ... Lower price fuel

We stop here for fuel anytime we're going to be flying within 30 miles of this airport since the service is GREAT and the price is almost always the lowest.

Picture of

Self-service fuel... but it's generally inexpensive

Most locals fly up to this little airport to buy fuel. There is seldom anyone there but the self-service fuel is usually the least expensive in the area

Picture of

Stop if you must

Good shop... but pricey fuel, and don't look for a big welcome if you're not in a jet.

Picture of

A "must' stop if you need MOGAS

An airport community with self-service fuel-- including MOGAS. Icebox in the office has soft drinks and snacks even if nobody is there.

Picture of

Used to be a very active little airport.

The current airport sponsor has ignored the airport and it has fallen in quality in the past 10 years. Very few aircraft based there and no fuel is available at this time (7/24/07) Runway lights and beacon have been OTS for a few years, and now I notice that the two dirt runways are NOTAMED closed.

It's a pity.

Picture of

kodo

Its outdated.Sure is in bad repair.

Picture of

Pecos ( PEQ )

A great old WWII airport with lots of room and no busy traffic. Has a VOR approach and a very fine family that runs the FBO with a few helpers. Free cookies and soft drinks. Fuel is almost always one of the cheaper stops considering that it's out in the middle of nowhere.

Picture of

Great hotel and a fun weekend diner both on the field!

Highly recommended!

Great Airport

Great small town airport with a really nice FBO.
