re: re: THIS IS NOT ROMSEY

Reply to @david: Yeah, I made some sort of paste error when I saw the subdivision.

Picture of david

re: THIS IS NOT ROMSEY

Reply to @ptomblin: that's the same location I found in the Australian AIP (you just have to make the latitude negative).

Picture of ptomblin

re: THIS IS NOT ROMSEY

Reply to @david: My Eurocontrol data gives the lat/long as 37.391667 | 144.738333, but I don't see anything there except a subdivision.

re: THIS IS NOT ROMSEY

Found YRSY in the Australian AIP and corrected to the latitude/longitude listed there.

re: THIS IS NOT ROMSEY

Thanks. Online databases seem to have a tough time with this airport. The first one I consulted (as well as Google Maps) put it in the middle of the ocean. A different source I found gave this location, which at least actually has an airport shown. So

1. Does anyone know the correct lat/lon for Romsey?

2. Does anyone know what airport is shown here? YPEF?

custom control

sadly the one thing that bugs me is, the amount of time you have to wait at custom control , been visiting Mauritius for more than 30 years and it has never improved and that includes this year too .

Picture of

THIS IS NOT ROMSEY

ROMSEY *YRSY is not this airfield. Romsey is about 8 km further north, zoom in north of Monegeeta for the real ROMSEY.

re: Story about midair collision

Reply to @david:

I completed my CPL and ME-IFR out of Bankstown. I then logged over 1000 hours teaching VFR students. The essence is to look outside the cockpit when approaching any airport and particularly an inbound reporting point such as 2RN (radio mast) or Prospect Reservoir at a busy GA training centre. With so much available as pilot aids, GPS and Traffic Warnings, it is too easy to be distracted by what's displayed INSIDE the cockpit while the actual danger is OUTSIDE. Under VFR, the PIC is responsible for separation. 2RN is difficult to see in some conditions but the instructors (one is each plane) know the cues for finding it and need to explain that to the students, all while looking outside the cockpit!

re: Do something about the Glenora/Vietnam experience!

I've never been to Duncan Airport, so I'm not sure about the situation, but at most airports there's something called a "circuit" that aircraft follow. Generally speaking, it's a rectangle about 3 km long and 1 km wide, with the runway in the middle of one of the long sides (and it can flip locations depending on the wind direction). At an airport without a control tower (that's most airports), everybody flies the same circuit for the sake of safety. They'll be at about 1,000 ft above ground level on the long side that doesn't have the runway (what we call the "downwind" side). It's important that everyone use the same circuit to avoid the risk of midair collisions, and to provide an orderly way for multiple aircraft to approach the airport and land (it's sort-of the flying equivalent of a four-way stop, where there's no light, but all the drivers know and follow the same rules).

So if you live under the circuit, unfortunately, there will be many aircraft flying repeatedly at 1,000 ft above your house on days when the wind favours the corresponding runway. That information is public (there are even often different zoning regulations near an airport), but most realtors either suppress it or outright lie about it to make house sales, then any home owners who don't like airport operations are left feeling angry and duped once the realtor has run off with the sales commission.

Do something about the Glenora/Vietnam experience!

Endless circling of large low flying helicopters is not fair to the neighbors. I understand that they need hours mechanically etc, but have them fly in larger darn circles!

This airport is actually a sports oval on an army base. My understanding is that the oval is a designated emergency landing zone for helicopters. I quite often see military rotary wing aircraft land here. Future development on the army base will see parts of the oval dissapear due to new building infrastructure.

A recollection...

Back in the 70s/80s the planes would come in to collect the weed and there would be clashes with soldiers! Later, they 'bombed' the strip so planes couldn't land no more. One summer we went camping at Garvey Maceo school just above (and to the right of) the strip. Nicest time ever!!! I remember there was a crashed plane at the strip and we snuck out to see it! So cool!

re: Dobber

Right,,,,

Now tell the truth cause I dont believe anyone would "ping you to CASA" for performing a go around.

Was the correct "Go Around Technique" used?

or,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Was the "Go Around" performed all the way down the runway, the aircraft gaining twice its TOSS yet only gaining altitude by following the earths curvature until upon reaching the opposing threshold the aircraft suddenly develops an enormous amount of lift, so much lift that the pilots eyeballs are drawn from his body through his rectum thence punching a hole through the fuselage and enabling him to watch as the world dissapears beneath himself and his ego?

YES,,,,,,,,, I Wonder??????

re: Rude and arrogant at Aldinga

Just had to reply to this one!

"only have ears for the sound of the cash register", "most expensive Avgas around", "don't spend money, not interested in you"

Well after owning a mechanical workshop for half of my life and developing quite an understanding of differing personalities, you sound like just the customer I would like to piss off right back to wherever you came from!

You are probably the sort of person that everybody owes something to, why should you pay to much for your Avgas? What is too much to pay for Avgas? Did you expect to get it for free or did you think that there is some sort of CO-OP that subsidises country airfields to account for people with pockets deeper than an Clydesdales Rectum?

As for the 3 runways in operation, well not sure what your aviation experience is but last time I read the POH for the aircraft I was about to fly I noticed that it had a differing max cross-wind tolerance than others I fly. OH does that mean that in certain conditions I would have to land on a different runway to others? Could a Rex Air SAAB land on one runway where a C152 would have to use another?

YOU BRAINBOX, I bet they were glad to see the back of you!!

re: Care Needed - John Ryner

"Just stick to rules and you will be OK"...... ????????

I'm sorry,,,,,,,,,,,

Is there something I'm missing here?

Oh, I get it!

Only abide by the rules when visiting certain aerodromes!?!?!? Sounds really sensible or is that MENTAL.

Please post on this website to let us know when and where you plan to aviate so as the rest of us can stay clear,,,

You sound like a complete "TWAT"

Aldinga Airfield / Adelaide Biplanes by Alex Shearn

I have been flying into and out if Aldinga for some years now and having visited many aero clubs around the eastern seaboard and Tasmania during my time flying surveys I can say that Aldinga is the most welcoming and picturesque airfield I have experienced. Adelaide Biplanes is in fact the only aeroclub I have visited that has a full kitchen on site providing a magnificent selection of home cooked Cakes, Pasties, Sandwiches etc and the best coffee south of Adelaide.

I must say I am suprised by some of the comments on this website as they are definately not in keeping with the reality of what is Adelaide Biplanes. There is an AeroClub on the airfield also, (Aldinga AeroClub), perhaps they are getting the two confused although by the content of the comments that have been made I tend to lean more toward the fact that they have more of a "personal agenda" in mind and I would suggest perhaps even been posted by the same individual!?

After meeting with Martyn (CFI Adelaide Biplanes) it would be clear to anyone that the content of the slander is absolute Tripe!!

As far as the price of AVGAS goes it is getting harder and harder to even get AVGAS at country airfields so to have to pay 10c/L more for the supply is fine by me, apparently they dont push along to well in the air when the fan stops!!!!

Anyways I suggest that people try for themselves. You'll be pleasently suprised and I'm sure you'll want to go back again.

Were the last comments left by someone sampling the central

Oh my goodness, what a load of rubbish left by the last person. The Alentejo is wonderful, beautiful, with lovely friendly people, fabulous cuisine and the BEST wines in Portugal. Far nicer than the north. I have travelled for many years in Portugal, I should know. The airport one day will be fantastic and will allow lucky folk to visit the likes of Evora, Beja and Mertola, with many other beautiful towns and villages, some in sweet hill settings. For goodness sake, the Alentejo has a slow way of life, eventually the airport will be busier but things go at an Alentejo speed!! I truly hope the Alentejo doesnΒ΄t get over populated, this gives the area the charm and piecefulness that most folk with hectic lives seek.

Malili Airport

Well.. the location is right, but the airport is closed and the local government plan to rebuild but there is no fund from central government. The Malili airport was have 1 runway adjacent to the parking space. The runway number was 02-20. I was once go to this airport but it's nearly abandoned and was nearly destroyed. I know this information because I'm leave near the town of Malili. Oh one more thing, the airport runway was now used as motor-cycle racing area.
