Flyboys Cafe

We took the family on a flight to eat at Flyboys Cafe. This is a great find. We arrived about 5:30 p.m., and the staff was eager to serve us. The place is very clean, and the staff is very friendly. Our server, Kay, provided exceptional service to us. The food was great. Their as they say, "soon to be famous" Flyboy Burger is the best meal I have had in a long time. By the way, you have to try their dessert called Bananas Foster. It is tops. Great place, and we all highly recommend it to all!

Re: Dunolly

I have my doubts about several of the airports that came from that particular user. I've got 529 Australian airports from him, so I'm reluctant to delete them all, but I'm also reluctant to verify them all.

re: Dunolly airstrip

I agree -- I can find no evidence anywhere that this airport exists. It came in some user-supplied data from navaid.com, but I'll probably delete it unless someone has a better source.

Dunolly airstrip

So where is it? The coordinates seem to put me into a hillside of trees.

I can't seem to locate the airstrip in the surrounding area even though Google Earth is high definition.

Bunbury Aero Club

On arrival at the Bunbury Airport, be sure to call into the newly renovated Aero Club building. We are open 7 days a week and our pilot shop sells maps and charts. Come and say hi and have a drink on the deck for a great view of the strip!

Leading Edge Aviation

Greg Turner runs a first class operation at this airport.

Fine facility at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains

5000' runway, nice approaches, and super nice people. Lest I forget, there's also the 57A cafe next to the terminal. It's not haute cuisine but it is convenient and the pretty good.

Middle of flippin nowhere

I flew Ryanair out of this airport once. You have to take a bus from Frankfurt to get here -- it's about a two-hour ride -- and it leaves at 5am. I slept on a bench in the train station. Good times.

Big bad Metro isn't so "bad" anymore!

For years Metro Airport was the poster boy for dark and dank terminals. It was a truly disgusting airport.

Today, it is state-of-the-art in every way. I love flying through here.

Spartanburg Downtown Memorial Airport - South Carolina's old

My home airport. 5200' runway with ILS and close to Spartanburg's downtown.

re: This is in Syria not Turkey

You are completely wrong.

For sure it is Turkey.

It is absolutely Turkey

re: Operation

According to the Wikipedia article, the airport is in operation, but it's not served by any airlines, so I imagine that the traffic is all general aviation.

When will it start operation?

Grassroots flying

This is a very friendly, relaxed place to fly. Fuel is available and all are welcome. Please be advised that you fly in and out at your own risk. Private airport.

Stopover.

Those who remember flying on CP or Canadian might recall the Brandon stopover. Generally was a stop, unload, wait 30 minutes then go type of thing. Was quite normal to stop here on the way from Calgary to Toronto.

Picture of viennatech

Rough!

The captain informed us it would be bumpy on landing. Bumpy as in severe turbulence bumpy. We made it in fine. The airport is more of a shack. Shows you how they did things in the pre computer era. Imagine checking in hundreds of people using stickers and pens. This is in 2005!

EAA Chapter.

This airport is a main reason that I am a flier today. I went up on an EAA Young Eagles flight at the age of 16. There is a great EAA chapter on the field that is stuck in time. It is like walking into the 1940's going in there. Great people and great projects. A tribute to the romance of aviation. Definately worth a stop!

Great place for practice.

We use this airport quite a bit for practice work. No landing fees for single engine, easy MF to help with radio work. Very quiet area and is just about 3-5 minutes from Rockliffe. Nice long runway and a decent place to park and eat.

Lost Wages!

It's cheaper to rent a car at Alamo for the week then to taxi everywhere. Is a great airport to arrive at in the dark due to all of the wild casino lights.

Gatway to the North.

With all of the expansion going on north of this airport it's amazing how desolate it is. Still has a cute terminal and small town feel with capacity for real air traffic.

Windy City.

They don't call it the windy city for nothing! One of the few places you could land a Cessna in reverse ;)

Used to fly out of here on Time Air's Dash 7's and Dash 8's in the early 80's. Was a great time to fly.

I would have loved to do my initial training here but alas it's too far from Ottawa! :)

Clark Air Base

I was actually stationed at Clark Air base back in 1989-1991. I was just coming from Desert Shield/Desert Storm then evacuated a few days later to Subic which was hit harder during the Mt. Pinatubo eruption. It was quite an experience. Perhaps someday soon I will visit my homeland.

Picture of

I have been here and loved the place - great little place to relax

Picture of

Flyboys Cafe

We flew in there for breakfast on Saturday, the 17th of November. We got the pleasure to see a US Navy F-18 take off. It came into the guard base the night before. Also, the staff at Flyboys was ready for the Ohio State V.S. Michigan game. These guys really good breakfasts. Well worth the trip.

Fun place to fly

I'm learning to fly at the ranch. Fun group of people to be around....I don't feel like just a number like I did at a more traditional local flight school

re: Needing more info

There's a little hamlet in Illinois called "Grubbs" -- is that what you mean? If so, it looks like the closest airport is Pinckneyville Du Quoin:

Home of Cessna

As the name implies, this is where 172s, 182s, etc. start out their lives. It's only 2 miles from the rival Beech Factory Field (KBEC).

Home of Beechcraft

As the airport name suggests, this is where Bonanzas, Barons, etc. take off from the first time. It's only 2 miles from Cessna's home field (KCEA).

Needing more info

I am writing from Patterson, NY Myt FBO is KDXR (Danbury Municipal, CT)

I have a friend who just moved to Grubbs and will be needing an aviation pick up around the holidays. I am having trouble locating map(s) to plan my flight.

Sincerely Yours,
