It's not as bad as you think
I fly in and out of South Africa about six times a year, usually to Nairobi or Dar es Salaam. Anyone who thinks OR Tambo is a dirty airport, full of rude staff has obviously never been north of the Limpopo to airports like Dar es Salaam, Addis, or Nairobi. I find the customs staff at best, friendly, and (mostly) at worst, disinterested. If you want rude, combative and vulgar customs staff try arriving in America in Atlanta or Miami.
If you've ever travelled by air in the rest of Africa you'll realise OR Tambo is relatively slick, organised and miles, miles better than Dar es Salaam or Nairobi airport. I for one feel happy and proud wherever I return to OR Tambo.

From the road this strip looks somewhat maintained, but it is within a farm complex and looks very private - I don't have contact details but the farm owner would need to be contacted prior to use in case of stock presence etc

A crying shame for the Island, the owners have closed access and will probably develop the land for housing. It could be a very busy airfield if it was developed to cater for the GP traffic, shame on the owners, have they no vision!

The trees are taller than they appear. Know your short field performance and maybe don't take off at gross weight if its close. Bonanza V35 at gross was too close for comfort on takeoff.

Airfield closed to traffic since at least 5 years I believe. Has a public road crossing the former runway. A chapel on the site is dedicated to Our Lady of Loreto, considered the patron saint of air travellers and pilots by the Catholic Church.
