re: re: Beja Airport
Any news on the opening date? " anytime in 2010", come on lets get it opened before they change their minds
History
While Waltham was founded in 1928 as the de Havilland Flying School. The RAF took it over in 1938, and it served as the home base of the Air Transport Auxiliary during World War II. The field stayed in RAF hands until 1982 (Prince Philip learned to fly here in 1952), and is now home of the West London Aero Club, with ~150 light aircraft based on the field.

It will be perfect when Ryanair will also offer soonest cheap flights to Radomir, which is very close to the health/spa city Kjustendil, the city of Pernik, the Blagoevgrad area, the recreational areas of lake Pchelina and lake Studena with some rural tourism and of course the City of Sofia.

Lux airport is fine but.....
...feels just like a hospital.....yes, its smallness can get you to the plane quickly and back to your car/bus, the duty free is good, but customs officers look at you as if you have done something wrong, the airside bus drivers thnk they are gods, and Luxair's insistence that a phone's flight mode means it can NOT be used during flight, downgrades any hope of it being anything but a small, regional airport.
Free coffee and hot chocolate
Lufthansa supplies free self-serve coffee and hot chocolate in their waiting area. The cups are tiny, but you can get as many refills as you want, and the machine makes a wide variety of coffee types. If only they offered free WiFi as well ...
Broken WiFi
There were only two open WiFi signals showing up in my departure area (the B gates), and both of them redirected to the same server error on 2010-03-14. Unless you have your own 3G stick, don't count on working online while waiting for your flight.
Arrive early for your flight
GVA is a only medium-sized hub, but it's slower than a lot of big airports like LAX or CDG.
When I arrived for an Air Canada flight on a Sunday morning, there were already hundreds of people in several confused long lines for the AC checkin counter more than two hours before the departure time, and service was very slow (most of them had skis in huge bags to check). The security line was also long and slow, and I heard loud British passengers complaining they were late for their flights. After security, you have to line up a third time to show your passport for exit control (that wasn't a long line), then you line up a fourth time to show your passport and boarding card at the gate about 30 minutes before boarding, then you line up the fifth (and final) time to board the plane.
The moral is not to cut it close: at least on the weekend, 2 hours early for an international flight from Geneva should be a minimum, not a maximum. Or if you can, pick an airport like Paris CDG or Frankfurt FRA that's a bit better organized.
Ground transportation from GVA
Taxis are expensive in Geneva, even for the short distance from the airport to the PΓ’quis or downtown (CHF 34, more than EUR 20, for a few kilometers).
The good news is that you can take the train to the main station in the PΓ’quis in 10 minutes (there's a train every 10 minutes or so), or the 5 bus in about 20 minutes (it passes the exposition hall and the United Nations on the way). If you're staying at a Geneva hotel, when you check in you'll get a card for free Geneva public transit β including the tram, bus and train β for the duration of your stay, so the ride back to the airport will be free.
Beja Airport
Any Clues to when it will open anyone?. We cannot wait for the airport to open.

This airport have index URRQ (in russian Π£Π Π Π―) - only AFTN index, not ICAO.

Reply to @fferm: that's bad news -- I hate to see yet another airport close.
Closed for public use
Unfortunately this airport is now closed for public use and will be fully closed in the spring of 2010

re: Spectacular approach!
Reply to @philippe: You havn't seen Isafjordur wich is a scheduled airport and the runway heading is straight in to a mountain and a narrow approach to, more spectacular!
regards Jon
re: Update
Thanks - I've marked it as closed. Are you sure no one uses it occasionally (gliders, ultralights, etc.?).
re: pilot info
Reply to @juf: Thanks - I've marked the airport as closed for now, and can change the status back when the new runway is ready. I'm guessing it won't be only a glider airport in the future.

Good luck with your project!
re: IATA code?
Reply to @pak21: The 2008 ICAO publication doesn't list any corresponding IATA code for this airport, so I've deleted it. Thanks for catching it.
IATA code?
How sure are we about the IATA code here? Most sources seem to give MCV as being McArthur River Mine Airport, Australia.
WOW!
We're not your personal research facility. If you're not getting the answer you need, then try doing some actual research.

Beja Airport
Check out this web site link - http://buypropertyalgarve.wordpress.com/2009/11/27/beja-airport-ready-to-open-in-2010/ it sounds like Beja may be opening early 2010
Beja Airport
I can't wait for Beja airport to open - we have friends in Ferreira Do Alentejo so it will save them having to drive the almost 2 hr journey to collect us from Lisbon or Faro.
The (only) Airport in Western Greece during winter
Corfu (Kerkyra) is one of the few Greek airports with normal working hours during the winter (see http://www.ypa.gr/content/index.asp?tid=247&lang=2 - some airports are open only on some days, some are open for only an hour in the evening, etc).
The arrival and stay in Corfu was pleasant. I assume that during the high season the airport may be quite busy.
An important advice: have the AOPA membership card or some proof that you are a flying-club member with you. With proof of club membership, the landing fee is symbolic (some 4 EUR) and you get a hefty discount on handling (some 15-20 EUR). It is rumored that Greeks are trying hard to invite GA guests to their nice places and these discounts are part of this campaign. We can only applaud this attitude and wish other countries would do the same.
Altogether the experience was very nice, although the Greek way (everything can be solved, sometimes a bit slow). ARO is the tower: they were very friendly and helpful in planning and arranging the flight through Greek airspace.
For a 100$ hamburger type of stay (in reality it is a 600 EUR Greek dinner), there is quite a decent Hotel Bretagne 5 minutes walk from the airport and another 15 minutes walk from the city centre.
Nice but expensive
The airport itself is very nice (I was told it was recently rebuilt by a German company and they hold a concession for twenty years to operate it).
All the staff was very friendly. It took the gasoline truck an hour to come to us (yes, they have AvGas 100LL), the ARO was friendly, but a bit clumsy. The main objection is the price: 95 EUR for 600kg MTOW, no PAX.
A prior landing permission is needed. In principle it takes 24h to get it (we got it overnight). Contact is Mr. Vrioni (mobile) +355 682 151 493, (fixed) +355 42 343 487.
re: Beja airport
If you want to go to the algarve then you would use the airport at Faro. If like me you have a caravan in Ferreira Do Alentejo Beja will be perfect. So i think it is in the right place, when it opens.
re: Beja airport
Reply to @david: I'm hoping to use this airport if it ever opens as I have relatives nearby and it will save me loads of hassle and expense of getting to Beja from Faro airport.
re: Beja airport
Does that mean that the airport is actually open to airline service now? The last news I saw (2 November) still mentioned the opening in the future, and the Portuguese-language website still says it's in the last phase of construction (at least, as far as my limited Portuguese skills go -- too lazy to use Google Translate for a language so similar to Spanish).
Beja airport
I went there on the 18 November 09, this airport will not work for holidaymakers that want to travel to the algarve, too far, 10 Euro toll, in the middle of nowhere, what person thought of this airport?
WRONG PLACE.....
Only Albanian airport with scheduled service (?)
It looks like TIA may still be the only airport in the whole country with scheduled airline service, though there have been efforts to upgrade KukΓ«s (LAKU) and GjirokastΓ«r to handle scheduled service as well. The Italian government was helping with GjirokastΓ«r at one point.
