Frenchy's Cassette Tape - The Art of Flying
Frenchy taught my father to fly and my mom and I were taking lessons when Frenchy passed away. I only had about 8 hours in my log and was 16 or 18 years old. (1976 or 1978 I think). I never took another lesson because I couldn't imagine someone telling me to fly over a VOR to watch the From/To flag switch. But, I still have the cassette tape Frenchy gave me to learn his Art of Flying. Does anyone remember this? Contact me if you would like to listen to it. niahartman@icloud.com

This air strip still exists and is used by private planes, even though it's not official maintained.

I have not found much information on this airport other than it seems to be an abandoned location sometime in the 1960s. The Smith River airport holds the record for the coldest temperature ever recorded in British Columbia (recorded in 1947).
It's winter, you need to de-ice aircraft!
Man you kids are dropping the ball!
Who is incharge of this debacle called YVR?
3 hours into a 5 hour flight cause you clowns can't have enough de-icing equipment to service your airport!
My 5 hour flight is now going to be at least a 9 if not a 10 hour flight.
Get your act together and stop this amature hour.
Well-maintained but not a great experience
I connected in PTY twice in the last week and both times I found the satellite with gates around #30 full of people and very hot as though the A/C wasnβt working, while the other areas of the terminal were at a good temperature. Both gifts and food are significantly overpriced, which came as a surprise. $4 - $6 for a bottle of water, nearly $30 for a soft toy. The first time, my connecting flight changed gates and I couldnβt find it on the screens, nor was it announced. I couldnβt reach airline staff at a nearby gate because of a security blockade and security staff told me to speak to airline staff at another gate because they simply didnβt know anything. At another gate, airline staff did help, but blamed the airport, and told us the new gate, though incremented by one, was at the other side of the terminal and I should hurry because the flight is already boarding. Certainly not the best airport experience Iβve had in 20 years of travelling by air.

Nice repaved runway and new lighting. Fuel, tie downs, plug ins, heated hangar available. Food and accommodation's are about 8 km away.

Restaurant and grocery store within a very short walk from the airport. Paved apron with tie downs. Nice place to stop over.

Very nice pilot lounge. Best fuel prices in the area. Lighted runway with AWOS. Home of the restored Canso. Nice airport to visit but a little too far to walk to town. About 4km.
Beautiful Airport
I rent the corner hanger space right on the lake. I can watch people fish and they can watch me fly.
Closed
I drove past there and it looks completely closed, the hangars are still there but the airstrip is fully covered in snow.
Miss this airport
Was nice airport, could park and walk to my father in laws cabin
First Grass landing
Instructor took me here during training for soft field landings
Watch out for the Ships!
Great airport to visit! You can watch giant lake freighters said across the grass (at least that's how it looks from the ramp). Ask for a ride into the fish place. Great food!
Flight Test
Took my flight test here with Dottie on President's Day, 2000.
Truck Stop!
Great little grass runway airport. Park next to the semi's at the north end of the runway and walkin to the country diner truck stop. Great food!
Tractor Show
Love to fly into here in August for the antique tractor show. They will give you a ride over and come get you to go home. Nice airport.
Slippery Rock Airport... ;-)
Great airport for flying into SRU. My son went there, Airport staff always great. Parachuting at the west end though
Farthest West... So Far
Landed here while doing my training hours when I had a Cardinal RG. Nice St. Louis area airport
Great Airport Destination!
Love the diner, and the museum, and my wife's air medical "CareFlight" base. the place I fly to the most. Love Urbana Grimes!
Night Flights
Landed here in a 1964 172 during my night cross country in the fall of 1999
Great little airport,
Towered, breakfast and lunch restaurant on the ramp, and a great little WW2 museum. Used to be a glider training base.
Almost gone...
Nothing left but the runway. Pretty sad, grew up about a mile off the end of the runway, used to be very busy with well over a hundred based planes... sigh
First Time visit
Landed here for first time yesterday. Beautiful little airport, picnic area, I'll be back.
Phillipsburg!
Where I learned to fly and Jane and Jean Miller owned it. Great little airport!

Great Little Airstrip!

Hard to find
I don't know why. Maybe because everything on the ground in that area looks like a stripe of some sort, it was a hard to find airport.
Great Airport and Incredible Maintenance Facity
Had to minor issues and they helped out immediately

re: History Of Rose Aviation on Hawthorne Airport from 1963
They are in Salem Oregon
Building of the runway.
I dont have a lot of information however just found out my grandfather ran the heavy duty cat to build the strip at war time. Is there any signs of the airstrip left. I would like to bring my teen to it for family history maybe in 2018.
First cross country flight
Landed on it on my first leg of solo cross country. Quite an experience.
A very nice terminal with a museum.
Friendly flying school
Where i had my first solo.
The home for Canadian Flyers School where I recieved my training. People are amazing. Very knowledgeable, friendly and supportive.
5 more years
I am happy to hear that YKZ is staying for another 5 more years. I hope it will stay more. It is a shame to see it gone.
hi

Displaced Threshold
RWY 28 has displaced threshold of 350'. Total rwy length includes this 350'.
Nice.
Very nice, 9/10 would come again.
Great airport
Nice folks!
Great airport!
Friendly folks!
No longer free 20 min
Too bad, used it ALOT. But there's the cell lot now so that works just as well
Very nice, but dangerous.
The cable lines look very dangerous while landing and takeoff. Overall great runway taxiway and terminal.
Spacey and pleasant airport
This is surprisingky the better of the US international airports. Plenty of space nice restaurants, good music.
Avoid transit through this airport
It is basically a terrible airport, bad service, lazy and sour responses from staff everywhere. Most importantly avoid transit as immigration is so slow that you risk losing your connecting flights. USA is a terrible country to transit through as you need entry visa and are forced to enter the country also when you simply are travelling in transit. Do not travel there unless you really have to. Avoid transit by all means.
Airport closing
It appears that Woodle is sadly becoming a McMansion subdivision
GREAT AIRSTRIP
Runways 02 and 20
Wonderful Service & Free to land Private Planes
Port Hawkesbury Airport - Landed there a few weeks ago and it was a pleasure! Recently they had new ownership and I have to say they are great! They are offering more then ever; including ice, water/Gatorade and always have coffee brewing. Staff was extremely accommodating and eager to help. They had competitive fuel prices and no landing fee for private aircrafts which is great! Will be back.
Shuswap Regional Airport (YSN/CZAM)
How and why Salmon Arm's airport got two very different codes beats me considering how consistent Canadian codes are.
Chalk it up to being Salmon Arm, I guess.
