Rossi's Farm Airport

I have landed hundreds of time with my Cessna 172 on this airport (on FSX) as a starting or ending point to Joliet Regl, Lewis University, Clow Int, Naper aero club, Brookeridge air park, Chicago Midway. I am an italian guy, and i live in Padova, Italy.

re: Twin Oaks Airpark pilots harass neighbors

Pilot's have better things to do other than harrassing you or anyone else. It is in our own best interest to do so. Why would we shoot our own foot? We are trained to fly neighborly from day one and go way out of our way doing it. "continuous flying around properties"??? 0_o The owner of Twin Oaks has bent over backwards to do everything to limit noise including reshaping the traffic pattern so as to not overfly your house. Yes, we know who you are. This airport was here decades before you. Too bad you didn't look at a map or look outside before you bought the house! Doh! I hope you never need life flight or an animal rescue flight.

Matthews Field Operational Restrictions

Other than a declared emergency, owner's written permission in the form of a fully executed general liability waiver executed by pilot and spouse, witnessed by a Notary Public required PRIOR TO LANDING! No exceptions! Failure to adhere to this request will result in aircraft being impounded and arrest and prosecution of the pilot and crew for criminal trespass. Please bear in mind if you land on my property without my permission I am under absolutely no legal obligation whatsoever to allow you to fly back off my property. Consider yourself warned.

re: Runway closed

Thank you for the information. Does anyone have a source for the airport move? I can't see the new airport in Google sat imagery (probably because it's too new), so I'm looking for some type of confirmation. The Panamanian civil aviation authority web site at http://www.aeronautica.gob.pa/noticia/index.php wasn't helpful.

Great little aerodrome with 2 grass runways. Note a bit rough due to the terrain but solid even after a rainstorm. 1,900' and 1400'

Collingwood Airport

Excellent facility and friendly staff. One of my favorite airports. Great unicom service and good fuel prices.

re: Can anyone verify?

Reply to @david: It's not in George Plews lists (CFS airports, CFS heliports, WAS seaplane bases) that I can find.

Picture of david

Can anyone verify?

I can make out what might be a landing strip beside the pond, but it's extremely small -- it wouldn't work for anything but an ultralight, at best.

re: CTAF

Thank you for the update. I've distinguished the two on the pilot-info page now.

re: Close to Edmonton and price of fuel

I hope that good things do come of the change and maybe some upgrades, I have heard that they have increased prices on aircraft parking (almost double) and that a couple of aircraft may have left already. I am not currently in province so am not using this airport, but would love to see it thrive especially in light of YXD fore coming closure (my anger on this is a different matter) and the things I have read about ZVL. It would be nice now that the lake is receding if some land could be reclaimed and the runway and the taxiway extended. I know Cooking Lake Aviation has/had a legal GPS approach, but believe it is restricted, if the condo board could get that for general access.... Some Jet A1 would be good as I have seen a couple of turbines operate out of there.

DJ's 50's and 60's Diner

Exit the back of the FBO and walk down to the road, hang a left and just on the other side of John Deere is a cool little diner called DJ's 50's and 60's Diner. Great diner destination! Very nice flight in, highly recommend!

re: A Bigger Small Airport

Reply to @dazuppa:

I've found that it really varies depending on which instructor you get. I had Matt Ross as my instructor and he was great. Overall I found Buttonville to be very professional.

Flying out of Stoney Creek

Hi,

I live close and am currently in the process of acquiring a Challenger XL-65 Ultralight. I am looking for a place to keep it, hanger if possible (1/2 maybe), tie down otherwise but I expect I will keep it at my cottage in Honey Harbor half (or more) of the time.

Seems I JUST missed the EAA 65 meeting this month :(. Should I just drop by? Is there someone I can talk to?

Thanks

Heliports in Toronto

I wonder how much traffic each of the downtown hospitals helipads get on an average month, (HSC & St. Mikes). Does anyone know about Sick Kids specifically? I'm having trouble finding this information online.

Cheers if you do!

Picture of ptomblin

re: Location of the heliport

I moved it to the location in the FAA database, but that put it in the courtyard of the medical center, so I visually moved the point over to that weird looking pad on the northeast.

re: VFR into teterboro

I fly my Warrior into KTEB frequently, but it's always from the north -- from that side, you can drop below NY approach airspace, and it's just a matter of calling up KTEB like any other towered airport. From the south, you might have to negotiate more-complex airspace, or make a big loop around.

When you're leaving, if you're VFR, tower will often let you cut ahead of the long line of bizjets and take an intersection departure.

Gas is expensive, but that's life near NYC. Call your FBO of choice first, and make sure you ask about *all* fees. I was surprised by a new customs fee on my last visit this past summer (since I was coming from Canada), but Atlantic very kindly and quickly refunded it.

Close to Edmonton and price of fuel

Cooking Lake Airport has now been transfered to the Condo association. We are expecting good things to come of this to breath new life into this airport. With the city center airport closing it is very well situated for anyone flying to/from Edmonton, Sherwood Park or Leduc. No Jet A. AvGas is $1.60 while City Center is $2.01/l.

re: Map of KSGU incorrect

Location fixed now.

Picture of

Map of KSGU incorrect

The aircraft symbol is on the old airport in both map and satellite view. The new KSGU airport is down and to the right on the map (southeast). In the map view, the old airport has vanished (even though the aircraft symbol still rests there) and the new airport runway is displayed and correctly labeled "St. George Municipal Airport".

Mystery Airport

Everytime I fly into DFW, I see what appears to be a piece of runway about 2 miles south of the airport. Finally looked up what it was and found out that this used to be a big airport. Lots of pictures and information about this mystery airport can be found here: http://www.airfields-freeman.com/TX/Airfields_TX_FtWorth_NE.html

Great 3500ft Grass Field

Good People and Great 3500ft Grass Field to land at. Runways 11/29, Hanger is normally open after 5pm.

8 planes call this Home.

Picture of Rosenkavalier

Nice little GA airport

Great airport and very good FBO. The runway is a little hard to find among the bluffs, but if you can see the golf course immediately to the north (it's the only green thing around) you're in the right place.

Picture of Rosenkavalier

New airport at SGU

The new airport is huge, and great. Very good FBO, Above View Jet Center.

Picture of Rosenkavalier

More about landing here

It's not that bad, even for a flat lander. Land rwy 3, even if there's a slight tailwind. Fly the VASI, which will put you a little long and keep you on glide slope. Just flre and let the rwy come up to meet you!

Picture of Rosenkavalier

Potentially challenging airport

Land rwy 16; take off rwy 34 - there's no go-around because of the mesa just south of the airport, so you need to nail the landing first time. The runway slopes upwards towards the south which makes it easier.

Picture of Rosenkavalier

Great FBO

One of the best! Really great service - had the rental car next to the p[lane on the ramp almost before I cut the engine. Buy your fuel at the self serve pump; it's at least a dollar per gallon cheaper. $6 a night tie down charge reasonable. SAF must be the only adobe style control tower in the world!

Picture of

Unfriendly

This is an extremely unfriendly and PPR strip which is too bad because it is perfectly situated to take full advantage of Buttonville closing - and has some old RCAF jet parts onsite.

I recommend you make your forced landing in an adjacent field before this place!! Go to Greenbank or Lindsay instead.

Co-op

Hello I'm looking for a phone # my bus passes the air port every day and I thought that it would be cool to do a co-op with a mechanic there .this page is the only thing I have found that has any info. Can anybody give me more info that would be great

Picture of

No, you can nopt. You have to depart from Gelabert MPMG, Tocumen MPTO or David MPDA.

re: ride to town

Sorry we missed your post but for future plans, the group is very active and most of the time there are members at the airport that would gladly help you in any way they can. You can always request a cab from the airfield to downtown Hamilton or any other destination.

thinking about VFR from Norfolk to teterboro...first time into teterboro. bad idea? any recommendations on route?

Picture of

springbank ATC

I have flown in and out of Springbank a few times in the last couple years and found the ATC to be consistantly surly so it seems to be more a culture of attitude toward GA. I fly C space around alberta quit a bit and have flown literally across Canada bumping controlled space frequently, I've never experienced anything near as bad as Springbank ATC. After the first couple bouts with Springbank ATC I asked an instructor at the local school, a recently retired Airline pilot who flys recreationally as well AND NavCanada rep at a rust remover for an interpretation of the Northern approach instructions to Springbank; all provided a different interpretation. I use Spring Bank to commute to meetings in Calgary so my choices are limited. I'll start carrying a bottle of Mydol in the plane and when they get snotty with me again I'll give it to the women (with deep voices) in the tower.

Landing and take off at Winter's field CRY4

Aug 2012, I landed here in a Beech 19a. Called ahead and spoke with Wayne who OK'd the use of his field. Runway 34. Bit bumpy but fine for a soft field approach and landing. Suggest anyone fly over the field first to get a good idea of what it's like. Exercise caution while taxing to park as there was an invisible hole just beside where I parked that was big enough to lose a foot in about 6" deep and would easily damage landing gear.

Thank Wayne for the use of the airfield

Picture of

CTAF

Everyone should be aware that the CTAF for this airport is 122.8. The pilot controlled lights are on 122.9.

Picture of

Margaree Airport

Visited the airport in August 2012. Beautiful asphalt runway, nicely maintained. No aircraft visible anywhere. Small terminal building, locked, looked largely unused. Three "hangars" of which only one looked servicable. Middle hangar falling down and full of non-aviation junk, third hangar closed with what looked like municipal ditch mower parked in front. No fuel, no telephone, and some distance from accommodation. This airport is close to the famous and scenic Cabot Trail, Baddeck, and should be crown jewel. Just add gas, a beater courtesy vehicle, an open terminal/pilot lounge and it should be busy all spring and summer. One wonders who built this airport, for what, and why it is well maintained but seemingly unused. Too bad really, could be a great destination.
