Camp

Base for my Super Cub Ultra in FSX. Camping, flights to glaciers and flying the rivers. Apparantly it is not open, so it's pretty quiet there...

If you are flying in to Linden for the first time this YouTube video shows the full sequence of approach, circuit joining, landing, taxiing and parking: Golden Haze: Dawn Landing at Linden.

When I was here in 2005, they had an awesome Mexican Restaurant right on the field.

Qulichena airport

Good condition gravel strip (Sept 2012), helpful friendly people, and one of the few places where you can get mogas, both regular and premium. Flying a plane with a Rotax 912 engine this is really appreciated. Most high wing airplanes will be able to roll right up to the pumps (its a regular car gas station). The top of the gate posts needed to be about 6 inches lower for us so we used a fuel jug and pump we had on board to transfer fuel. Its only about 250 feet from the pump to the end of the runway so it wasn't too onerous but it would have been fun to pull right up to the pump.

Just be sure to note the power lines along the road.

Amarillo Air Force Base

Home of NORAD ID Z-88, guardian of the Gulf of Mexico. Capable of launching 3 B-52's side by side 25 sec. apart , it would shake cars 4 miles away. Alternate landing field for the US Space Shuttles .

Always wanted a 10,000 at 180* from the HOT pad, eastern edg

Still feasible, but it could die if they keep building houses.

So if you landing or if you ae looking for a nice little day trip, stop by Bashaw, just please remember to come sign the book.

great for a daytrip

a short five minute walk from the airport to a sugar-white sand public beach. Local restaurants will pick you up at the airport. 4R9 is a great day-trip or weekend getaway air strip.

Just remember that there is no fuel or any services here at all. The strip is bit short and short final to RWY12 looks like you are about to land on a carrier. But that is the charm of 4R9 I guess.

re: Identifier?

Reply to @ptomblin: I have an old paper copy of the official ICAO "Location Identifiers" doc (ICAO Doc 7910/128) from June 2008. It lists no identifier "KGVQ". The closest ones are "KGUS" (Grisson AFB) and "KGVW" (Kansas City, Richards-Gebaur Airport). I suspect that someone was using "ICAO" informally, as a synonym for "four-letter all-alpha identifier".

The confusion over ICAO identifiers, especially in the US, is the main reason that I went for "GPS code" instead with OurAirports.

Picture of ptomblin

re: Identifier?

Reply to @david: I don't trust that list, because it doesn't list Genesee County Airport, which changed its FAA id from 3G8 to GVQ because it had weather reporting and so therefore needed an ICAO identifier KGVQ. That happened when the US adopted METAR/TAF back in the late 1990s/early 2000s.

re: Identifier?

Reply to @ptomblin: you have to pay for the official list, but here's a copy (re)published by Mexico in 2010: http://www.mexico.icao.int/icaoaspa2010/ECCAIRS/Documentation/Taxonomy/R4CDLocationIndicatorsByState.pdf

update

FYI, Picton is still a PPR airport except for PEFC breakfast, second Sunday of each month and Father's Day breakfast. Also there is a new registration box beside the old gas pumps. Please fill out the form. No tiedown fee. No fuel available.

The runways are maintained but are 70 years old so are far from perfect. No snow removal. Flying club is active but own no a/c. There are about 7 a/c based here in the summer.

Picture of idleopdes

description

There still is a flying school here. Also about 15 a/c in the hanger. Fuel is available Mon. to Fri during business hours. After hours and on weekends you need your own key. Price is reasonable.

FBO

We spent some time here in August of 2012 and found the owners of Tailwinds Aviation to be very friendly and hospitable. Services were fairly priced including fuel. The airport is well maintained and I would not hesitate to recommend it for most light aircraft.

Which airlines have service here and Ground transportation representatives is not clear for someone visiting from out of state.

Friendly little airfield

Friendly place to stop, grass or snow. Great for tailwheel, ultralights. Picnic tables, bikes to go into town, washrooms and more.

Picture of Tony

US Customs Stop

Stop here for US Customs if heading West to Oshkosh. Friendly and flexible with the ETA.

Picture of Tony

Overnight Stop

Spent the night here, camped on the infield. The airport manager offered to let me sleep inside the terminal, but there was no traffic and it was more comfortable to tie the aircraft down on the grass, pitch the tent and sleep beside the aeroplane.

Beautiful spot

Wonderful quiet little airport in Northern Wisconsin, out in Lake Michigan.

SuperCub.Org Flyin

Very friendly tailwheel flyin takes place here during the week of Oshkosh. Make a reservation, fly in, camp here and take the daily bus over to AirVenture (if you wish). Many of the New Holstein fly-in folk prefer to just stay here for the week, and don't even bother with the crowds at Oshkosh.

Inexpensive, quick fuel stop

Stopped here for inexpensive fuel after picking up the Club's Decathlon from the factory at Fox River. Take off from Fox River, climb to 1000 feet, look right and you are right base for KBUU.

Home of the American Champion Factory (Decathlons, Scouts, E

30 foot wide runway, but it looks like 20 feet! Flew the Club's Super Decathlon C-GKXD out here from Ottawa (Rockcliffe) for some TLC. Two weeks later, flew back trhough Milwaukee to fly the Decathlon back to Rockcliffe. Lots of Fun!

re: Identifier?

Reply to @david: http://www.activitae.com/cgi-bin/htmlSearch.pl - I don't know if this actually looks at the ICAO database, or if it just applies the standard rule to the FAA ids. But it lists KOWD (and not abominations like K7G0 like I've seen in some places).

Picture of david

re: Fort Erie Airport

According to the CFS, the western 2,350 ft portion of the runway is still in use. If you zoom in on the satellite view, you'll see a faint "28" painted about a third of the way from the east end of the runway.

Picture of david

re: Identifier?

Reply to @ptomblin: the problem is that the ICAO doesn't recognize all of the KXXX identifiers. For example, Norwood Airport (FAA: OWD) is referred to as "KOWD" in GPS databases, but AFAIK, there is no "KOWD" ICAO code.

Sea plane base!

I didn't know if I'd find this one in here but I did! My one and only sea plane ride. I swear the pilot had been sipping some whiskey when he came to pick us up, but he did take us for spectacular plane ride along the coast.

llittle more than a landing strip!

re: Harbour Air Services

Agreed! We just visited Harbour Air over the weekend. The FBO arranged for a rental car at a terrific rate. We had great service and help with a soft tire prior to departure. Thanks, Harbour Air!

Picture of

No complaints

I stopped here briefly during a training flight and found the terminal staff were fine. There is also wifi. Don't get stuck in the men's washroom! The fly in breakfast is now every third Sunday per the Brockville Flying Club website.

Picture of

Great Lunch available!

My spouse, son and I flew to Arnprior from CYSH. The original plan was to walk over to Tim Horton's( About a 2K walk) for lunch. We decided to stay and have the home made soup and a hotdog at the Airport. The Soup was excellent and my son devoured the hotdog.

Cold War remnant

This airpark is the site of a Atlas F missile silo which was decommissioned ages ago. Some entrepreneurs have been trying to sell the underground control room as a luxury home and have divided the airpark into building lots, but from what I can tell there are only two houses on the site, the missile control room building and a log cabin. entering Canada

Hi there, I am ferrying a Twin Otter from the U.S.A on straight floats. Anyone know if Canada Customs can be convinced to come down here and clear us in?? Canadian registered aircraft with Canadian pilots. Jet fuel would be too much to ask for I'm guessing but... Please email @rocketmail.com> Thanks, Steve
