I cant wait for it. Iam a legazpeno and iam happy for mY CITY. Though Naga is doing its best to grab it, nevertheless i know that legazpi would the best site for this for it lies at the heart of bikol and it would not only serve legaspi or Albay but the whole region with the othe provinces respectively

Subic Bay International Airport

I hope they will allow international commercial flights in SBIA. After the FEDEX departure just wondering what does SBMA plan to do with the airport. Hoping commercial flights to liven up the area and to attract tourism.

re: Have been there.

Reply to @david: that's bagui and is probably 8 hours ? through the mountain roads which would defeat the object of flying - better to fly to togegerau ?

Picture of

re: Have been there.

Reply to @david: isnt that for bagui - waht would be closest airport (apart from toguerao) for santiago isabella - i believe bagabag airport is closed ?

re: SBIA

There are no commercial passenger flights into Subic, try Clark International, it is only about one hour drive away now that the new toll road is open. Clark has budget connections (TigerAirways, Cebupacificair) from Singapore for example.

re: SBIA

I have been checking Subic Bay websites for weeks. I can't find a travel agent to arrange the entire trip. The SBIC website doesn't give any information on airlines or flights.

re: SBIA

You'll probably have to go to RPLL (Ninoy Aquino International Airport).

Nice travel destination for those that like ocean resorts and love to scuba dive.

re: Have been there.

The nearest airport I know with airline service is Loakan Airport (BAG RPUB), about 70 km to the west-southwest, but you might be able to charter a small plane from there the rest of the way in.

Have been there.

I lived just off the airport for a year. It is a classic small Philippine airport. Love the people of Bagabag.

improvements at Ozamiz airport

Since the opening of Ozamiz airport last July 2007, Air philippines and PAL express have offered flights to Manila and Cebu respectively. Passengers and cargoes have increased significantly due to its strategic location. Ozamiz airport serves the areas of Ozamiz city, Oroquieta city, Tangub city, parts of Lanao del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur. I heard that Cebu Pacific Air is also flying to Ozamiz in September 2008 by offering Manila flights via Cebu using their ATR 72 plane. The entry of another airline in Ozamiz will definitely boost travel, business and tourism in Misamis Occidental and its neighboring provinces. Works for the improvement of the airport already started in the first quarter of 2008. Expansion of the tarmac, construction of a new passenger arrival building with a luggage carousel/conveyor, installation of the baggage scanner and walk-through detector and car park fencing are almost finished. Ozamiznons are eagerly awaiting for installation of runway lights and extension/expansion of the runway so that bigger aircrafts can land at the airport.

re: Operation

According to the Wikipedia article, the airport is in operation, but it's not served by any airlines, so I imagine that the traffic is all general aviation.

Operation

When will it start operation?

Clark Air Base

I was actually stationed at Clark Air base back in 1989-1991. I was just coming from Desert Shield/Desert Storm then evacuated a few days later to Subic which was hit harder during the Mt. Pinatubo eruption. It was quite an experience. Perhaps someday soon I will visit my homeland.

Cebu International, where Magellan came to stay

Another former USAF Base, Mactan is joint use now with the airlines and the Philippine Air Force. The terminal is small, only about 6 gates but quite modern. A really huge contrast with the much better known NAIA in Manila 400 miles to the north. Cebu is the "queen city" of the southern Philippines and an interesting destination, much more laid back than other Asian cities. The airport is actually in the municipality of Lapu-Lapu named after one of the original residents (also known as the Kaliph Pulaka) who wasn't exactly overcome with joy at the arrival of Ferdinand Magellan in 1521 and showed his displeasure by ending Magellan's voyage (and life) on the shore just north and east of the departure end of runway 4.

Picture of XingR

My Current "Home base"

This former USAF installation is now run by a hybrid government-commercial development corporation. in addition to hosting many ground-based industries, casinos, hotels and recreatioal facilities it is being built up as a major international airport, slated to be linked to Manila via high-speed commuter rail and US-standard expressways ala the current Hong Kong airport.

If you zoom in just to the east of the approach end of runway 02R you'll see the separate runway and hangar facilities of Omni Aviation a busy flight school and FBO situated in the former home of the Clark AB Aero Club ... and an excellent place to base if you're in the Philippines. best of both worlds ... fly out of a major international airport but with your own runway and facilities.

Picture of XingR

My Current International Gateway

I presently make my home in the Philippines in Bulacan, about 25nm north of NAIA. NAIA is the major Philippines airline hub. The current government is working to move a lot of airline traffic to the former Clark Air Base, about 40nm North of the city ... which will be known as DMIA (after the father of the current Philippine Republic president) and is already a significant air freight hub.
