Home base

This is my home base. Friendly folks here.

Picture of

Hidden Lake Airport community

The most friendly community of pilots on earth. Marcelle, for example is an exemplary neighbor, pilot, mentor and a fine human being. Everyone cares for everyone else and the place is like paradise on earth with abundant natural beauty and a great runway with facilities. All roads/taxiways are well maintained. IT IS UNIQUE. I am lucky to be a part of the community.....So safe, being gated with neighborhood watch....My privilege to be part of it....

Windy... potential for lots of x-wind!

Camping

There is a great camp ground across the street from the airport. No access to the lake within walking distance of the airport.

Easy international connection

Nice, easy connection here in mid November -- I had only an hour to connect from an inbound Montreal flight to an outbound BogotΓ‘ flight, but I was able to stay in the international terminal without going out and back in through security, like at some other airports.

re: Wrong Location

Fixed.

Picture of

Wrong Location

This is an old location. The FAA had it wrong for a long time. The field is about 1 mile east of the airplane icon.

Picture of david

Don't transfer here

Not a fun place to transfer after an overnight international flight. Shift change at customs happens at 6:00, and the customs line did not move for 1/2 hour, as it grew longer and longer. Have to reclear security to transfer from the international terminal to a domestic flight at terminal 3, and construction made things painfully slow there (once we all found a way in).

Choose any other airport, even Atlanta or Chicago.

Remove Goddard Airport in Haverhill MA!!!

Airport CLOSED! This was never an "airport". The Field use to be used for a small Cessna. The owner was stopped from taking off and landing on the field. The field has houses on it now!!! (Nov 15, 2012) and should no longer be considered an airport at all on any map what so ever!!! Remove Goddard Airport!!!

re: Probable incorrect location for base

Reply to @prattsoplenty: The Wikipedia link goes to a Wikimapia article about the Navy base, not the seaplane base. Not sure if I'd trust that. Skyvector shows the point pretty close to where we already had it. http://skyvector.com/?ll=53.399114444,-167.5519&chart=301&zoom=3

re: Probable incorrect location for base

I found another mention of Chernofski Harbor (link in the pilot info under Wikipedia page) and moved the location to that area.

Picture of VE6TDH

Convenient

Accommodation and restaurants within walking distance. Runway and taxiways need upgrading.

Picture of

Probable incorrect location for base

The symbol is atop a hill beside Mailboat Cove, Chernofski, AK. There's nothing up on that hill except grass and crowberry. The ranch buildings can be seen in bottom of aerial photo if one pans cursor that way. The ruins of US military WWII infrastructure is to right, in the northern part of Mutton Cove, an appendix (if you will) of Mailboat Cove with together with Mailboat Cove comprise Chernofski Bay or Harbor. On the hillside above NE corner of Mutton Cove are a hydrant and other remains of US Military presence. There's also a pier and slaughterhouse in that corner and, finally, a little bit left of the coal pile the military put there to heat the place.

I spent January 2010 up there and became quite familiar with the layout.

Flew my Trinidad TB20 here from Ottawa for some maintenance/cosmetic touch ups. Small, friendly place with several small hotels. Close to Providence, RI too.

re: Rossi's Farm Airport

You wouldn't want to do that in real life as it's a private "prior permission required" and as you might have seen in a recent comment on another such airport, landing without permission can lead to dire legal consequences if not outright violence.

Picture of

Rossi's Farm Airport

I have landed hundreds of time with my Cessna 172 on this airport (on FSX) as a starting or ending point to Joliet Regl, Lewis University, Clow Int, Naper aero club, Brookeridge air park, Chicago Midway. I am an italian guy, and i live in Padova, Italy.

re: Twin Oaks Airpark pilots harass neighbors

Pilot's have better things to do other than harrassing you or anyone else. It is in our own best interest to do so. Why would we shoot our own foot? We are trained to fly neighborly from day one and go way out of our way doing it. "continuous flying around properties"??? 0_o The owner of Twin Oaks has bent over backwards to do everything to limit noise including reshaping the traffic pattern so as to not overfly your house. Yes, we know who you are. This airport was here decades before you. Too bad you didn't look at a map or look outside before you bought the house! Doh! I hope you never need life flight or an animal rescue flight.

Picture of

Current Fees

FBO Flight Level Aviation.

$15 facility fee and $12 overnight ramp fee. Facility and first overnight can be waived with 10 gallon fuel purchase.

Picture of

Matthews Field Operational Restrictions

Other than a declared emergency, owner's written permission in the form of a fully executed general liability waiver executed by pilot and spouse, witnessed by a Notary Public required PRIOR TO LANDING! No exceptions! Failure to adhere to this request will result in aircraft being impounded and arrest and prosecution of the pilot and crew for criminal trespass. Please bear in mind if you land on my property without my permission I am under absolutely no legal obligation whatsoever to allow you to fly back off my property. Consider yourself warned.

Thank you for the update. I've distinguished the two on the pilot-info page now.

DJ's 50's and 60's Diner

Exit the back of the FBO and walk down to the road, hang a left and just on the other side of John Deere is a cool little diner called DJ's 50's and 60's Diner. Great diner destination! Very nice flight in, highly recommend!

Good Eats!

Check out the Skyline Family Restaurant! What a great diner destination!!!

re: Location of the heliport

I moved it to the location in the FAA database, but that put it in the courtyard of the medical center, so I visually moved the point over to that weird looking pad on the northeast.

Location of the heliport

re: VFR into teterboro

I fly my Warrior into KTEB frequently, but it's always from the north -- from that side, you can drop below NY approach airspace, and it's just a matter of calling up KTEB like any other towered airport. From the south, you might have to negotiate more-complex airspace, or make a big loop around.

When you're leaving, if you're VFR, tower will often let you cut ahead of the long line of bizjets and take an intersection departure.

Gas is expensive, but that's life near NYC. Call your FBO of choice first, and make sure you ask about *all* fees. I was surprised by a new customs fee on my last visit this past summer (since I was coming from Canada), but Atlantic very kindly and quickly refunded it.

re: Map of KSGU incorrect

Location fixed now.

Picture of

Map of KSGU incorrect

The aircraft symbol is on the old airport in both map and satellite view. The new KSGU airport is down and to the right on the map (southeast). In the map view, the old airport has vanished (even though the aircraft symbol still rests there) and the new airport runway is displayed and correctly labeled "St. George Municipal Airport".
