Not to be confused with Hamilton Municipal Airport
Hamilton Municipal Airport (KMNZ) has the FAA LID "MNZ", identical to this airport's IATA code, which confuses flight-tracking sites. Note that "HEF" is the FAA LID for Manassas Regional, but *not* the IATA code.
Not to be confused with Manassas Regional Airport
Manassas Regional Airport (KHEF) has the IATA code MNZ, which is identical to the FAA LID for this airport (the FAA LID for Manassas is HEF). This confuses most flight-tracking sites.
Never opened
This multimillion dollar facility never took off. See Wikipedia article for one of the most ill-fated military aviation facilities in American history.
re: airline info to hOBBY
Southwest, use that guy from 8 years ago
re: Closed
Reply to @Fadamor: Per your problem report: "The only thing remaining of the runway are broken bits of asphalt. Pilots wishing to fly into Raton, NM should use KRTN about 8 miles to the south of the former NM67."
Dulles Aviation Closed
KHEF is undergoing a major renovation on the West Ramp and in the future for the East Ramp. The Dulles Aviation Building and the neighboring hangar have been razed. The current plan is to upgrade the West Apron for more turbine services. Additionally, the Airport Management are working with the FAA to get scheduled passenger service using narrow-body aircraft (B737, A320, etc.) Currently those plans aren't expected to bear fruit for five years or so.
Closed
This airstrip used to provide service to the La Mesa Park (Horse) Racetrack that was located just across the street to the north. The racetrack and airstrip operated from 1946 to 1992.
Great food stop
In-n-out burger 10 minute walk from the field!
USA misconception
I was searching up "USA" just trying to find all the airports of the USA and this popped up.
Freaking out when Landing
When I was landing at 08L, I thought the plane will take an emergency landing! (I was on United 789, a 777-2000
Glamping available here!
The owner has some tents setup on platforms for a deluxe flyin camping experience!
Wounderful day destination
Flew in, rented a bike and peddled to a selection of restaurants.
A fun flight!
Beware the density altitude, the runway is shorter than many are accustomed to.
Most supportive operations experience
In Jan 2022 in what I recall was zero degree conditions, the operations manager made sure I was able to get my plane moved, warmed and able to depart.
Great destination airport. Nearby is the Iron B&B. Perfect base location to fly the Loring and Frenchville triangle of northern Maine.
24 hr SS 100LL and no fees at the time I utilized this airport.
Runway 32 approach is dramatic
The airport is on a bluff, much hgher the the surrounding terrain. The approach end of runway 32 is the most dramatic example of the land elevation difference.
This is the most northern of the northern Maine triangle of scenic airports. Caribou and historical Loring being the other 2.
I've cleared into the US here as well.
Nice destination, convention customs entry
Last time I visited was 2022, so comments might no longer apply.
Cleared in from Canada here. Comfortable operations building with 24hr access. No fees.
Wounderful destination...
Nestled next to Massachusetts highest peak, Mt Greylock, the operations building has 24 hr access to facilities, S.S. 100LL and parking.
No additional fees that I'm aware of.
Well Maintained Smooth Grass strips
Well Maintained Grass strips with frequent flyins. Wont disappoint for the tailwheel pilot. Low power lines on the north end of rwy 36
Parts Run
Delivered some parts to our work crew that was in the area.
Consider Carefully!
Tribal airport. Do not confuse this with IG4 Grand Canyon West.
Search "Tribe Stole my Plane" on YouTube.

Reply to @sr22pilot1: Hi, just moved to NYC, I'm a commercial rated pilot needing to get back into it after years of inactivity. Looking for a school an glad for any kind of recommendation. Was flying 172s and small Pipers. Looking to get a multi endorsement and get serious about IFR currency.
Flew in early to beat the rush.
Super nice. I called a day or two ahead and Monica saved us a car. the lineguys were on top of their game and had us chocked and strapped down almost before we were out. My son and I went to see the UP 4014 Big Boy steam engine.
BAD
This is BAD

Reply to @Armaan: Ikr, how do you even land? There arenβt even numbers on the runway -._-. XD

OMG so weird!!

All I have to say is there are amazing vending machine snack options. 10/10.
A great recreational airfield!
My first flight here was nothing short of amazing. Mr. Swank was very hospitable and it's only one of three Recreational Aviation Foundation (RAF) airports in Ohio!
Rough asphalt
It was not too terrible, but the asphalt was a bit rough, more than what I expected for "fair condition". Otherwise, it's a neat airport to fly into.
Nice well kept airport
I met a fellow pilot to continue Hannaβs journey home from treatment on Lifeline mission.

runway still maintained
just had a mini fly in there a few weekends ago ....
re: Fun place to land
Reply to @Dmiddlet26:
Is this actually still open?
It's still listed on AirNav, but there's a golf practice and training facility that's basically cut it in half.
Open 1976-2014
It is very weird to make DoorDash deliveries in a samey, bland neighborhood that used to be a thriving grass airfield.
Long gone but ...
There are still visibility markers up on the power lines along Crystal Falls Parkway aligned with the south approach of this former grass strip in 2024!
Aggieland's Best
If you're gonna get a "hundred dollar burger", hard to beat Gate 12 Bar and Grill, which has unobstructed window seating for planespotters. Last time I was here (before COVID), the waitstaff showed me their photos of an L-39 that popped through here -- USAF and USN military trainers (T-6, T-38, T-44, T-45) are a very common sight here and much easier to see and photograph than in Austin.
Duplicate heading?
This might just be Scotia Airport which doesn't show up on the topos ...
A challenging field
Trees are at the ends of both runways, you kinda need to dogleg in and out and it's the second shortest paved strip in the country!
Great experience here
We took our 150 here and the guys in the shop gave us an almost 24 hr turn around on installing a Stratus Adsb and Hobbs meter in it.
Fuel stop
Great guy at the desk. Didnβt seem to mind at all that we came in a half hr before closing.
re: VOR/DME 34 approach to be canceled
Thanks for your work creating this web site. I love it and have told all the other local pilots about it.
Fuel stop
Less expensive than at home
Rose Aviation 1973-1977
Hello anyone that worked for Rose from '73 to '77. My name is John Dickson and I, like othersm stumbled across this looking for info on Rex Rose for a good friend. I owe my entire airline career to advancements and good fortune I was able to enjoy working for Jean Rose and her Chief Pilot at the time, Art Olsen. If it wasn't for them and their trust in the young 20 year old I was at the time, I'm not sure where I would be. They both entrusted in me the position of flight instructor, charter pilot, and Telephone Patrol Pilot for PT&T from '74 to '77. I worked with some great people - Ray Patinelli, Gene Fitzpatrick, Joe Harrington, Rob Keenan, Greg Madden, Colby Bridget, Tom Rustemyer, George Chuili, Steve Toon, and dispatcher Nikki Caldwell. I remember very well Linda who has checked on with this blog - and would love to catch up on how Art Olsen lived the rest of his life. I have a great story about Rex Rose (actually two) that I would love to share for anyone who would like to listen. Just let me know. I'll keep any eye out. Anyone out there from that era?
Very Disappointing !!
We stopped at this airport for fuel BUT they just received a delivery of fuel and "had to settle" for 1.5 hours before being dispensed.
Unfortunate landing that could have been avoided if the FBO responded to our unicom calls as we approached the airport. There were no responses as we called out our positions. They did not communicate the fuel issue until we taxied to the fuel farm. Pretty sad lack of communication.

Very nice airport for a quick turn fuel stop
Very nice overnight fuel stop
Rusty was very helpful and made our late arrival very easy
Firs timer
I Met a fellow lifeline pilot, Tad who flew my passengers the remainder of their trip from Omaha NE to Terra Haute IN. Jeff and Shawna were a great couple to have along.
re: Seaplane base
The seaplane base symbol is located on the water runway!
