Gone but not forgoten

Took my flying lessons out of Berz in 1957 with a trainer named J erryGray in a Cessna 175 and a 180. We would make sales calls into small towns in Mich. Chicago for lunch, Drummond Island for Fishing. It was a great little port, easy in easy out.

Interesting article

http://www.airlinereporter.com/2014/02/the-boneyard-of-the-east - this is evidently one of the few airliner salvage yards in the eastern United States.

My first flight

This little airport opened about 1968. They had free airplane rides. I went up with my Mom and a guy I later went to Navy boot camp with. The pilot, Mr. Charles Jones had a Cessna 172, the best I can remember. We flew over my hometown. I was kind of scared of flying, or the idea of flying, then. Got to start somewhere!

No Southwest Airlines?

I know for a fact that Atlanta is one of Southwest Airlines' focus cities. How come Southwest Airlines doesn't appear on the routes list?

Can Warbonnet Ag Strip be used for powered paragliding ?

My name is Ron and I plan on taking a powered paragliding course. For future reference, I wondered if Warbonnet could be used for powered paragliding and there wasn't a phone #, so I thought I'd leave this message. My email is rheckens@live.com. Thanks for your time on this.

Re: FFZ NDB

The FAA still lists FFZ as active. See http://www.airnav.com/airport/KFFZ and http://www.airnav.com/cgi-bin/navaid-info?type=NDB&id=FFZ&name=FALCON+FIELD for instance.

Picture of

FFZ NDB

Evidently the FFZ NDB service is no longer there. When was it turned down?

Not What I Expected

I landed but there was no jetway to main terminal - or in this case an old house that looked like something out of Green Acres. I waited for my luggage to arrive but apparently there was no ground crew working that day. Coming from Indiana, I am accustomed to things being a little "backward", but I was not prepared for my encounter with the owner of the airport - CCP. I was wanting to get on my way but he kept going on with stories about meeting Mohammed Ali, and drinking Aquavit with Victor Borgia, and slam jamming some kinda vertical banjo at some German place in his old college town... he went on and on about his boyhood life and adventures in Norway, and cliff diving off the coast of Fredonia, and all the girls he fell in love with and on and on and on and on..... aiy yi yi!!!

GREAT PRACTICE AIRPORT

DURING MY FIRST SOLO THIS WAS MI FIRST SOLO CC AIRPORT, TAKING OFF FROM 19 WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE FOR ME BECAUSE THE TREES AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY LOOKED DOUBLE THE SIZE THAN WHAT THEY ACTUALLY WERE. MY FIRST SCARY EXPERIENCE.

GREAT PEOPLE

ON A FLIGHT TO (FA71) The Cedars Airfield MY SON GOT AIRSICK AND THREW UP ALL OVER THE AIRPLANE SO I HAD TO DEVIATE THE FLIGHT AND LAND IN CRYSTAL RIVER AIRPORT, A SMALL AIRPORT WITH PEOPLE THAT HAVE A GREAT HEART, THE GENTLEMAN THAT WAS AT THE FBO COUNTER JUST GAVE ME THE KEYS TO THE BACK OF THE BUILDING AND WITH A FRIENDLY TONE OF VOICE SAID TO "TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS BUDDY" WHICH MY SON QUICKLY ACCEPTED SINCE HE HAD TO THROW OUT HIS SHIRT, WELL AFTER BUYING FROM THEM A NEW SHIRT AND CLEANING MY RENTAL I FLEW BACK TO APOPKA.

Picture of torkil20

VISITED DURING TRAINING

ORLANDO EXECUTIVE IS AN AIRPORT THAT IS STUDENT FRIENDLY, WHAT DO I MEAN BY THIS? SOME AIRPORTS THAT YOU VISIT AS A PILOT ARE NOT TO KEEN IN HELPING YOUNG INSPIRING OR NEW PILOTS AND THE TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS SCARE THE HELL OUT OF THEM, ORLANDO EXECUTIVE BEING A BUSY AIRPORT (AND ALL THE PROBLEMS THAT ACCOMPANIES THIS TRAFFIC) IS VERY EASY TO ENTER ITS AREA OF OPERATION FIRST TO THE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS ON DUTY, THEY ARE ALL VERY PROFESSIONAL AND HELPFUL. THE PEOPLE IN SHOWALTER FBO ARE VERY PROFESSIONAL FRIENDLY AND ORIENTED TO HELP ANYONE.

deceitful and rude

Chandler Air Service is owned and operated by Diana Walkup and her husband. She did not like the fact that my husband objected to the $12 per night tie down service (which equates to more than a hangar rental) when we spoke with the FBO lineman, so she called the Chandler police. She was not even a witness to our conversation with the lineman, but simply didn't like the fact that he complained. She did, however, wait until AFTER we had purchased $700 in fuel and paid for the several days of tie down before she made the complaint and had us served with a Trespass Notice - attempting to ban us from the airport for a year (not that it is even legal for her to do so). She acted with deceit and malice. This FBO should be avoided at all costs.

wild rose airport

A grass strip (2 runways) in Wild Rose, WI. Flew in here one day and there was an ultralight event going on. Not much nearby to go to unless you have bikes or know someone in the area.

Tampa Base

Great place to go but no fuel. Very smooth water and owner will allow free dockage and help with rental car.

re: is this a good place

Since nobody but Iran still flies f-14s, I'm suspicious of your motives for asking. :-)

would this runway be sufficient for a f-14b grumman tomcat to take off?

Fun fly in

When reading comments from Anonymous posters, one should probably consider the source. Except, you can't. Because it's anonymous, likely for good reason. 57Alpha Cafe is alive and well, open for business, and this airport is a great day trip destination. We had a wonderful experience there last weekend, beautiful area… support GA!

Picture of rstan

Wonderful airport BUT

Runway in good but WAVY condition

Everything else is great including reasonable priced fuel

Picture of rstan

Great airport

Spent a few days visiting Marfa

Great fuel prices although priced as self service ..they do the work.

Allow *lots* of time for international connections

While I like flying into Dulles as a private pilot, I had a very bad experience here as a passenger changing planes. I arrived on an international flight from Switzerland last Saturday, on time, with a scheduled 2-hour stopover. By the time I lined up for US immigration, lined up for the exit from the baggage area, then lined up again for a second security screening (totally unnecessary, since we'd never left the secure area), I'd used up most of the stopover time, and my next flight had already boarded. I made it on board after a very long run, but just barely.

So if you're switching from an international flight at Dulles, 2 hours is barely enough -- I'd suggest leaving more if you can, at least until the airport decides to stop abusing passengers with redundant security screenings.

Quick visit

I changed planes here last Saturday on a long, multi-leg United Airlines trip from Geneva to Tucson. I didn't have much time to look around, but it wasn't too long a walk to my connection, and I had a chance to buy a smoothie on the way. Most food places were still open Saturday evening, which was nice.

Picture of david

Taxis

I arrived in TUS late Saturday night on a delayed United Airlines flight. I suspect we were the last flight in. The airport was mostly empty, aside from a few cleaners, security staff, etc., but there were still a lot of taxis waiting outside at the queue, which was a relief.

Great Self Service Prices

First time that I arrived to buy gas that the price was LESS than advertised.

Great facility, nice lunch restaurant.

Easy quick turn.

Picture of rstan

Great Service

Landmark Aviation has a very well trained courteous and efficient staff

Rented a car from Hertz on premises. They had car brought right to plane minutes after we shut down !!

That is what I call service !!!

Picture of ptomblin

Yes, it's legit.

The FAA thinks there is an private airstrip here. There are literally thousands of private airstrips in the United States, and many of them don't look like much on Google Maps.

Picture of

Really?

I don't see any airport. Austinia was a town on Dollar Point in what is now Texas City several miles from here.

Picture of ptomblin

It looks legitimate, even if it doesn't look like it on the

The FAA has it at this location.
