When I was here in 2005, they had an awesome Mexican Restaurant right on the field.

What is this!?!

I'm sorry but i do not understand how or why one would expect everybody to stay quiet when they intentionally breach air legislation, putting the safety of themselves and others at risk. Grow up!

The ability to leave a comment about the airfield is being used for all the wrong reasons.

I fly the family to aldinga regularly, great scenery, great people, great food, great overall environment. I'm not quite sure what everyone is on about. Don't fly like a tool, and you'll receive just as much respect as anyone else.

Qulichena airport

Good condition gravel strip (Sept 2012), helpful friendly people, and one of the few places where you can get mogas, both regular and premium. Flying a plane with a Rotax 912 engine this is really appreciated. Most high wing airplanes will be able to roll right up to the pumps (its a regular car gas station). The top of the gate posts needed to be about 6 inches lower for us so we used a fuel jug and pump we had on board to transfer fuel. Its only about 250 feet from the pump to the end of the runway so it wasn't too onerous but it would have been fun to pull right up to the pump.

Just be sure to note the power lines along the road.

Amarillo Air Force Base

Home of NORAD ID Z-88, guardian of the Gulf of Mexico. Capable of launching 3 B-52's side by side 25 sec. apart , it would shake cars 4 miles away. Alternate landing field for the US Space Shuttles .

Always wanted a 10,000 at 180* from the HOT pad, eastern edg

Still feasible, but it could die if they keep building houses.

How can I download CSV files?

Hello there,

Sorry but I couldn't find a proper location to add my comment to except under my fav airport which is LOWW.

I checked the DOWNLOADS page but couldn't download the database files out there. Eg., the downloaded airports.csv file shows only the header information although the download page warns about a big filesize. It's ca.300kb only and empty.

Can you pls guide me on downloading the dbase files? Thank you!

re: which airlines fly to this airport?

Yes, you can send your handling request and they will order taxi for you.

Picture of jwbruce

great for a daytrip

a short five minute walk from the airport to a sugar-white sand public beach. Local restaurants will pick you up at the airport. 4R9 is a great day-trip or weekend getaway air strip.

Just remember that there is no fuel or any services here at all. The strip is bit short and short final to RWY12 looks like you are about to land on a carrier. But that is the charm of 4R9 I guess.

re: They don't have heart, They're just corrupt!

Reply to @blez:

My understanding is that Immigration Officers are trained to make sure that Filipinos do not leave the country to become TNT's in other countries. Unfortunately this practice makes every Filipino suspect. We flew from Clark to Singapore last March and they questioned my boyfriend for a long time. I hold a US passport so they had no question for me. I made sure he was dressed up--not with just jeans and tshirt but with dress slacks and dress shirt like a business man he looked like he could more than afford the vacation we going to have. We also practiced the interview so he was versed in the country we were going, where we were staying, how long and when we were coming back.

re: Identifier?

Reply to @ptomblin: I have an old paper copy of the official ICAO "Location Identifiers" doc (ICAO Doc 7910/128) from June 2008. It lists no identifier "KGVQ". The closest ones are "KGUS" (Grisson AFB) and "KGVW" (Kansas City, Richards-Gebaur Airport). I suspect that someone was using "ICAO" informally, as a synonym for "four-letter all-alpha identifier".

The confusion over ICAO identifiers, especially in the US, is the main reason that I went for "GPS code" instead with OurAirports.

the airport looks old, but they built it in several years.

signs

it doesn't have the clear signs and it is very boring, because of the color or shape maybe... the problem is the colors used for the airport is not suitable in my idea.

Talking of Njor Airstrip?

Do you think that project will ever materialize. It has been over an year since I started seeing people trying to clear the area. After that, Nothing, at all. I think the money have been diverted. This is the Kenyan way. Just like the road they are repairing from Njoro road to Molo. They are doing such a shoddy job you cannot even imagine. They have put patches and I tell you bythe time they get to Molo That Road will need to be started all over again. And Can our MP, Kiuna tell us how much money has been awarded to the repairing of that road? How much has gone to actual work and how much to the pockets? Why why and why.

re: Identifier?

Reply to @david: I don't trust that list, because it doesn't list Genesee County Airport, which changed its FAA id from 3G8 to GVQ because it had weather reporting and so therefore needed an ICAO identifier KGVQ. That happened when the US adopted METAR/TAF back in the late 1990s/early 2000s.

Picture of david

re: Identifier?

Reply to @ptomblin: you have to pay for the official list, but here's a copy (re)published by Mexico in 2010: http://www.mexico.icao.int/icaoaspa2010/ECCAIRS/Documentation/Taxonomy/R4CDLocationIndicatorsByState.pdf

Keep this Forum to the point.

Wow "@david " this is bit of poor representation of the events that killed Martyn and Gaylene’s son. This accident was tragic and should never of happened. I and everyone else I know (including Mr Chris Wise – whom I have spoken too about this), feels devastated for the Smiths. Why did you bring this up in this discussion?? Don’t forget the pilot that killed there son had a family too, and the events that happened that day is not their fault, when you represent untruths it reflects on them.

>the pilot had lost his medical<; He had lost his Class 1. Medical, he still retained a Class 2. Medical.

>and was disqualified from flying<; No he was not.

>let alone the low level aerobatics that he was carrying<; this was foolish as it’s not legal to take none essential crew and passengers whilst doing low level aerobatics.

>he drove his aircraft into the ground<, this is outrages, you make it sound like it was intentional, the manoeuvrer he did beggars believe, however in an attempts to impress, we have all done things that were stupid and got away with it, in this case he did not with tragic consequences.

It is this tragic event that has set the Smiths on a crusade, I can totally understand this, and as you put it > β€œi doubt that anyone could imagine the horrific images that must go through their minds”

Do not loose site that this pilot was well known to the Smiths and this was not the first flight they had shared on that day or other days. How they cope on a day to day bases is a credit to them, however does not excuse their crusade.

I think this forum should be kept to the opinions about the Aldinga Airfield, in Australia we all have a right to voice our opinions, one can only voice their own experiances and I know of several people whom have voiced their opinions on this forum, both positive and negative as is our pilots right, that the point of the forum.

Prior request before arrival (NOTAM, 20 Aug 2012 til 20 Sep

1) Because of work in progress at the western end of the runway, arriving aircrafts have to inform the AFIS by phone before arrival, for the vehicles of the civil works to clear the path for the landing. This constraint is less strict during weekends but PPR is still required. Information valid from 20 August 2012 until 20 September 2012.

2) AFIS not available by phone on saturdays from 4 Aug til 25 Aug 2012.

update

FYI, Picton is still a PPR airport except for PEFC breakfast, second Sunday of each month and Father's Day breakfast. Also there is a new registration box beside the old gas pumps. Please fill out the form. No tiedown fee. No fuel available.

The runways are maintained but are 70 years old so are far from perfect. No snow removal. Flying club is active but own no a/c. There are about 7 a/c based here in the summer.

Picture of idleopdes

description

There still is a flying school here. Also about 15 a/c in the hanger. Fuel is available Mon. to Fri during business hours. After hours and on weekends you need your own key. Price is reasonable.

FBO

We spent some time here in August of 2012 and found the owners of Tailwinds Aviation to be very friendly and hospitable. Services were fairly priced including fuel. The airport is well maintained and I would not hesitate to recommend it for most light aircraft.

Info on Airport

XiJiao is a Chinese military/governmental airport strategically positioned on the edge of the fourth ring road in downtown Beijing. It has few or no fighter aircraft, although a couple helicopters. Mainly you see 737's and occasionally a CRJ 200 or Gulfstream. Only time you see Airbuses here is when CUA airlines (Which is the only airline operating from NanYuan Airport) stop by occasionally. My guess is that they are contracting to transport officials or the likes. Plane spotting opportunities by the far south west corner of the runway in a small park, or at the two ends of the runway. Traffic usually is on workday mornings.

Good News - PORTUGAL ANA Airport Operators to be Privatised

Well some good news as Portugals ANA airport operators are to be privatised, so possibly big shake up's will happen within ANA management. This could have a have a knock on effect on the moribund state of Beja airport and maybe it will finally be transformed into a properly functioning airport?
