London City Airport
London City Airport is a regional airport in London, England. It is located in the Royal Docks in the Borough of Newham, approximately 6 miles east of the City of London and 3 miles east of Canary Wharf. These are the twin centres of London's financial industry, which is a major user of the airport. The airport was developed by the engineering company Mowlem in 1986–87. In 2016 it was bought by a Canadian-led consortium of Alberta Investment Management Corporation, OMERS, the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan and Wren House Infrastructure Management of the Kuwait Investment Authority.
London City Airport has a single 1,508-metre long runway, and a CAA Public Use Aerodrome Licence that allows flights for the public transport of passengers; this licence also allows training flights, but only for the purpose of training pilots to operate at this specific airport. Only multi-engine, fixed-wing aircraft up to Airbus A318 size with special aircraft and aircrew certification to fly 5.5° approaches are allowed to conduct operations at London City Airport.
London City had over 4.5 million passenger movements in 2017. It is the fifth-busiest airport by passengers and aircraft movements serving the London area — after Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton — and was the 14th-busiest in the UK in 2017. In 2019, the airport handled over 5 million passengers.

is this really an active heliport? It does not look like one, on satellite imagery
re: Airport?!
The clearing just north of that field looks like a more deliberate runway but appears fiercely overgrown. How odd.

Runway 35 has uphill slope 2deg.
Great airport! Great people!
I’ve been based here for years. Scott, the airport manager, and his crew do a fantastic job. There are 2 full time a&p’s on site. Flight training , fuel, or service on your plane - they can take care of it.

Distributing an AIP in electronic format (eAIP) is one way to achieve compliance with the
Regulation (EU) 2017/373 amended by RUE 2020/469 (Annex VI-Part AIS - point AIS.TR.305).
The eAIP is produced by the NOPIA tool of the SIA: it is based on the Eurocontrol specifications but configured
to adapt to the French context. It follows the standard structure GEN (General), ENR (EN Route) and
AD (AéroDromes) of an AIP.
The eAIP Metropolitan France, CAR-SAM-NAM (Antilles, Guyana and St Pierre and Miquelon), PAC-N
(New Caledonia, Wallis and Futuna), PAC-P (French Polynesia) and RUN (Réunion, Mayotte and Iles
sparse) can be consulted in the online store, and on the home page of the SIA website as presented

A rare 10000+ ft runway in Central Africa
This airport was built to serve the hometown of then-Zairean President Mobutu Sese Seko, who had a palace here and would charter an Air France Concorde so his family could go shopping in Paris. Yes, you read that correctly.

Great runway
Converted to heliport.
Recent satellite imagery has the main runway 10/28 covered in prefab housing, as indicated in the current AirNav entry (closed indefinitely). The former apron has a heliport indicator and appears to remain in use.
Split between two Governorates
Part of this facility is in Suez Governorate, but most of it lies in Ismailia Governorate.
Re: Placename Translation
Putting these name convention notes here in lieu of a wiki.
Best practices when listing placenames and names of airports that are based on location are to leave those place names listed in the original language (for example, Puerto Vallarta and not "Port Vallarta", Ras Sedr and not "Cape Sedr", Kuala Lumpur and certainly not "Muddy Confluence").
Military ranks and titles used in the names of airports should be translated where feasible (ie. Colonel rather than Coronel, Marshal and not Marechal etc, but preserve culturally distinctive titles such as Chhatrapati or Shahid). Likewise, the words for airport, heliport, etc. should always be translated and written out (ie. "matar, kuukou, aerodromio, flyplats" etc should be translated); likewise, words like hospital, factory, etc should be translated unless the word is a brand name and familiar in English.
Visible in newer maps
Not visible in sat maps prior to 2022, newer sat maps show a three-slot heliport in this location adjacent to a new factory for Elsewedy Electric.
re: Used by web infrastructure company CloudFlare
Reply to @anonym: Updated the location as I was able to properly pinpoint this facility on sat maps.

Always close to my heart
Good to buy rum, chocolate and jerk seasoning. Honestly, their jerk seasoning is the most delicious I've encountered and when my packet runs out I will miss it dearly.
Immigration can be a bit abrupt in their manner but are not unreasonable if you have your documentation in order. Smallish airport so easy to navigate, and various car rental options available.
Small regional airport
It's not exciting, but it's not meant to be. Has about 2-3 departures per day for Dar and Comoros. Never really had any issues there - tiny, straightforward, does what it says on the tin. I think there was a small stand where you could buy water/crisps/cashew nuts after security, and some loos. As it's small you more or less see your plane land, the previous lot of passengers get off and their luggage, then watch your suitcase be put into the cargo hold and are shortly called to board. If you fly into this airport you'll be through baggage reclaim and outside in no time. Nice chilled out vibes. No bother no fuss.
Decent regional airport
If you arrive fairly early for your flight you may be sent to the waiting area, which is a sort of hangar in a separate building to the check-in building with the gates, etc. The waiting area has no loos but does have a stand selling local chocolate products and a food stand that does meat pies, drinks, ice cream, etc. The pies were quite nice but my colleague's croissant had mould on and the ice creams were a bit melted. Plenty of seating though.
When you get called through to clear security you're shown into the gate area, where there is a small and fascinatingly eclectic shop, selling everything from Monopoly games to history books and t-shirts, and there are loos. I think there was also wifi there. It only holds one plane-load of passengers and you don't spend long there before boarding.
As is fairly typical of small airports like this, you can pretty much see your plane arrive and watch your suitcase going onboard. On arrival, once you've collected your baggage you are basically on the tarmac outside in seconds. There is a small currency exchange but rates and staffing were...unclear. It's within Kumasi city though so not a long drive to in-city hotels.
Nice place.

Airport Karlsruhe-Forchheim
The airfield Karlsruhe-Forchheim was the airfield of the city of Karlsruhe until the year 2000 and was used for general aviation. It was located south of the city in the Forchheim district of Rheinstetten. Tower and hangars have now been demolished and the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Center is located on the site. Part of the asphalt runway can still be seen.
Flight operations were relocated to the former Canadian military airport near Rheinmünster, which had been converted to Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport. Since then, international flights have also been handled there. A few hundred meters east of the former airfield, the Rheinstetten glider airfield has been in operation since 2004 with an 830 meter long grass runway and a 1030 meter long winch runway in the 02/20 orientations.

Wilmington Residential Airpark in South Australia was founded in 2011 after local builder Christopher Phillips purchased the property. He decided to embrace his passion for aviation and proposed the development of an airpark. Using his skills as both a farmer and a builder, Chris slashed, mowed, graded and fenced off an 860m airstrip then built a hangar on the verge to house his Cessna 175A. The focus of the Airpark is to build a great community with 12 affordable acreage blocks of land for sale. There are so many people with a love for aviation. Whether you are a pilot yourself or you just have an admiration for aviation and our concept you are welcome here.
Unsanctioned airfield
John Toole Jr., the owner of Toole's Training Center, used this horse race track as an airfield for a J5 Cub in 2015, which prompted the Davie city council to ban private airfields in the city. The pilot attempted a campaign for city council as a result. Toole ultimately lost his life in a 2020 crash near Orange Springs while trying to land an Aero Commander 100 Darter Commander on an unlit grass strip (FD02 Patch o Blue) at night.

Report from personal visit
I was able to access this field via ground transportation during a previous visit to Bastrop in 2017-2019; it's a pretty rudimentary and obviously private grass strip, little more than a mowed patch of grass beaten down by plane tires. But it's definitely there.

Luton Airport
🔗 Thu, 05 Jan 2023
— @Silvanus_Tauris at London Luton Airport, United Kingdom
London Luton Airport is an international airport located in Luton, Bedfordshire, England, situated 1.5 miles east of the town centre, and 28 miles north of Central London. The airport is owned by London Luton Airport Ltd, a company wholly owned by Luton Borough Council, and operated by London Luton Airport Operations Ltd.
An airport was opened on the site on 16 July 1938. During the Second World War, the airport was used by fighters of the Royal Air Force. Commercial activity and general aviation flight training at Luton resumed during 1952. By the 1960s, Luton Airport was playing a key role in the development of the package holiday business; by 1969, a fifth of all holiday flights from the UK departed from Luton Airport. From the mid-1960s, executive aircraft have been based at the airport. During the late 1970s, an expansion plan was initiated at Luton to accommodate as many as 5 million passengers per year, although the airport experienced a reduction in passenger numbers in the 1980s. In 1990, the airport was renamed London Luton Airport to try and emphasise the airport's proximity to the capital.
The arrival of new operators at Luton during the 1990s, such as charter operator MyTravel Group and new low-cost scheduled flights from Debonair and EasyJet, contributed to a rapid increase in passenger numbers that made it the fastest growing major airport in the UK. In August 1997, to fund an £80 million extension of the airport, a 30-year concession contract was issued to a public-private partnership consortium, London Luton Airport Operations Limited. Throughout the 1990s, £30 million was invested in Luton's infrastructure and facilities. In November 1999, a new £40 million terminal was opened by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip; the new building houses 60 check-in desks, baggage and flight information systems and a range of commercial outlets. During 2004/5, the departure and arrivals lounges and other facilities were redeveloped at a cost of £38 million.
In 2018, over 16.5 million passengers passed through the airport, a record total for Luton making it the fifth busiest airport in the UK. It is the fourth-largest airport serving the London area after Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted, and is one of London's six international airports along with London City and Southend. The airport serves as a base for EasyJet, TUI Airways, Ryanair and Wizz Air and previously served as a base for Monarch Airlines until it ceased operations in October 2017. The vast majority of the routes served are within Europe, although there are some charter and scheduled routes to destinations in Northern Africa and Asia.
