Reply to @david: I agree with the assessment that Reid-Hillview is a friendly airport which offers a range of services. I would add that it is a convenient airport as well. I am amazed with its close proximity to downtown San Jose and far less hassle associated with getting in and out of the nearby San Jose International airport that more business people traveling via General Aviation do not utilize it.
The airport has the potential of becoming an even better airport if the Santa Clara County folks who oversee it would realize that it would be to their advantage to allow a restaurant to re-inhabit the terminal building.

This water landing area is active once a year for the Scalaria Airchallenge, a European floatplane fly-in and airshow.
Nice Place to stop
The FBO at plymouth is very friendly and there is a wonderful resturant with airplane parking right out front. Just a 10-15 minute hop to Provicetown Municipal. Which is a big advantage over driving, because driving take at least an hour and a half. Also easy quick access to Hanson, Boston, hyannis, Nantucket, Chatham, and Martha's Vineyard. There's an air shuttle to take you to Nantucket and the Vineyard. 10 minute drive to Plymouth center. Rental cars are available.

The rude controller was a big pain in the rear end, and was finally "persuaded" to resign.
The county supervisors and the city now support the airport.
It's a very friendly airport now. Airport terminal has snack, soda and coffee machines. Airport Shoppe (open Mon - Sat, 9-5) has a wide range of pilot supplies plus prepackaged sanwiches and similar food items. Four flight schools - including tailwheel, vintage and aerobatics at AeroDynamic Aviation. Two maintenance shops. Cessna dealer. 24hr self serve gas plus three truck based fuel services.
Time to visit again!

Douala, Cameroon and Pet Express with the help of Che Martin and Christna Rose stated they had 2 beautiful Maltese puppies to be adopted and just moved from the US and can not keep them. Set money via Western Union to Neba Numfor 1st for payment of puppies and then to Bih Miranda for pet insurance. Stated needed money for pet insurance and if I didn't pay I would be arrested and then when puppies were suppose to be in Glasgow for the next trip to the US, stated they need more money for special crate. This is a scam. Phone numbers that have been used are 924-662-00 and 924-662-01. Wish I had seen all of this prior to sending any money. Live and learn

You refer to the DC-10 as an old airframe, and yet you prefer the VC-10, which first flew nearly 50 years ago? I'm willing to bet the DC-10 is *way* more fuel efficient and cheaper to operate. Probably safer too. And according to Wikipedia, the only flying VC-10s are tankers - the rest are there for spare parts.
Wikipedia also says that some of the Tristars passenger/tanker combos, and some of the passenger Tristars have counter measures against ground fire so they are used to fly people into possibly hostile places like Iraq and Afghanistan. So it's not that they don't use the Tristars, just that they don't waste them on moving people around in safe airspaces.
Civilian carriers V Military aircraft
Why do we use Civilian carriers (normally the cheapest bidder, like the recently bust 'Fly Globespan', or the oldest airframes, like Omni Air's DC-10s) when the sides of the runway at Brize are lined with RAF VC-10s and Tristars? What is the point having RAF passenger aircraft if we don't use them regularly?

"From someone who also was posted to Iraq, Shaibah in '54", I remember that train trip well, at one time it was so slow that a couple of us stepped off and walked awhile and climbed back on board. Many,many moons ago!!!

This airport is not welcome for aviation enthusiast as spotter. Once your approach the fence for take a picture your favorite aircraft the aviation securities will warn you. Is it because of TSA?
Nice place to fly near Atlanta
I did my primary training at RYY and then rented for a while until I moved. I liked the size of the airport and the fact that it has a tower, but is small enough that they have plenty of time to talk to you and the jets are never really in the way. Easy to fly in and out of, and the Atlanta Bravo is well above the airport. Haven't flown there as a visitor from another state, so I can't vouch for the FBO, but I really liked Superior Flight School when I was there.

Private Airstrip
This is a private airstrip which belongs to an ex- Air Canada captain, as I was told. Runway about 2000 ft long was in a good shape in October 2010, there were glider trailers and a tug parked on the adjacent taxiway. Approach from the East is "hooked" as the neighbour does not permit to fly over his barn (seen about two thousand feet following the runway heading eastwards). Procedure known to me was to fly a curved final around the barn before aligning with the runway. Electric line at the Western threshold was buried, as far as I can remember. Also, airport call on the radio is "Great Lakes", not "Colgan".

I quite agree with your comments but unfortunately or what ever this is part of African culture I am told that by talking loudly implies that they are not saying anything behind each others back and if you understand their language therefore you would not be offended thats the best way I can discribe it I could stand to be corrected but this is the way it was explained to me as a Europane Immigrant.
Nice FBO and great fuel prices
They are gradually building up the facilities at this new airport. The FBO building opened recently and it's very nice, with good meeting space and a modern architecture. They are luring fliers (at least piston fliers!) with some of the cheapest 100LL prices in the area, so if you're nearby you should stop in.

Abandoned Airport
This is a typical WWII aeroport with its delta-shaped runways, of which only one was used more or less continuously after the war. As per my low and over in June 2010, the 10/28 and 16/34 are not landable, unless you have Tundra tires! "Unregistered" runway (the only one with something that looks like a surface) is used for drag-racing, there are cars and trailers parked near it. Overall the airport does not look as active. I have asked locals, no one even considered it as a usable airport.
Closed Airport?
This airstrip looked as dead as possible when I've passed low and over it somewhere at June 2010. The runway was only distinguishable for the surroundings by a bit different color of the grass, and buildings next to it looked abandoned.
Private Airstrip
This is a private airstrip, owner has a hangar stuck to a barn - that's about as much I was able to see when overflying the field. It is a PNR, but the surface looked too bad to land - though approaches are clear. Might be a bit tricky to find - use the square ponds on the lakeshore as a prominent ground feature, then follow the road from the Beaverton to the West.
PPR Airstrip
I have not landed there - this airstrip is PPR and when I was circling over it end of November '10, a black SUV pulled into the middle of the runway and just stood there. There were no aircrafts next to the hangar, as opposed to shown on the Google Maps. Approach from the East looks intriguing - it is a tunnel cut through the trees!
The Biggest Runway Ever! :-)
Muskoka is another popular destination for the Toronto student pilots' cross-countries. This airport sports a huge runway, good for big jets and air force machinery. You need to talk to Timmins RCO (was London, but now they only provide FISE there) to operate in their control zone. RCO guys are positive and helpful, working with lots of student pilots.
You can frequently meet some expensive and cool aircraft at Muskoka - Corvalis, Cirrus, corporate jets and so on. Terminal building is very nice, facilities comfortable. I think it's a good place to visit now and then. Check out the airport website for more details: http://www.muskokaairport.com/
