Good Flight School
The flight school at Cornwall has two twins (Seminoles) and can help you get your multi and IFR ratings, and has an examiner on staff for efficient, no-nonsense IFR renewals. There are two non-precision approaches to this airport.
Not all grass - lots of gravel
This airport is listed in the CFS and commonly known as "Westport". I have been here during the week and seen vehicles drive in, wander around and drive out. Perhaps the signs off the road are inadequate? This gets tricky if you are slipping in over the trees to Rwy 07, as I was.
It is a nice walk into the town of Westport for treats or lunch. There is a winter fly-in here, on the lake for skis and at the airstrip if conditions allow.
PPR and the low spots can be wet
Call first and check the conditions, especially early in the season. Lots of ultralights here, especially Challengers!
Spectrum Aiways
Great flight school. If you come in early on the weekends, you can get breakfast in the flight school building. That lady makes the best omelets in town!
Power Lines
A nice grass strip close to Ottawa to practise soft and short field landings. Have a look at photos of this strip before going there, the power lines may not be visible depending on your direction of approach and the angle of the sun. There are low power lines at both ends, with some higher Hydro towers and cellular towers nearby. Watch for hang glider activity nearby too.
My favourite x/c
This airport is great to fly into at night, beautiful view of the city.
Prior permission required
Great little airport, watch out for extremely strong crosswinds on some days. Prior permission is required, but is usually given if you have business at either of the two nearby ranches.
Approach over the Water
I did a Hope Air flight from Montreal to Baie Comeau. We filed IFR and the passengers got a little restless when we flew the DME Arc out over the water to approach from the East. They could see lots of water below us and ahead of us, and the aircraft seemed quite low. After we turned inbound, they saw the runway and relaxed a little. I was just glad they waited until we were on the ground before telling me that the approach over the water made them very nervous.
Shopping
There is a very large shopping centre (mall) a short taxi ride away. I used to take an aircraft here for an annual inspection and my significant other would take advantage of the time in Montreal for some serious clothes shopping, the kind of shopping that you cannot do in Eastern Ontario. (This sounds wierd, but an ex-Montrealer would understand what I meant.)
Restaurant
A convenient pit stop if you are flying between Ontario and the Maritimes. A nice airport restaurant, fuel and maintenance services available if required.
Ice Cream
Apparently there's an ice cream stand just off the field. I plan on checking it out the next time I'm there.
Restaurant
There's a very inexpensive greasy spoon just out the gate and up the hill.
Nice airport
Another good airport to practice instrument approaches as the folks working the tower are great.
Attractions
If you have time when you stop here, there's a great aviation museum within walking distance.
Good diner
There's a good little diner on the field here. Angelina County is also a good place to work on ILS and VOR approaches.
Booming small airport
In 2004, there wasn't much here, but a few years later, this small airport looks a lot different. Say hi to Gary if you stop in.
Good place to...
practice NDB approaches, as it's usually not too busy.
Friendly crew
This is a great airport for training. The folks in the tower are very great. They're very accustomed to students, and will be very helpful (and patient). Well, at least they were every time I (or all my friends) flew there.
Pickett House
There's usually not much going on at this (small) airport, but once you land here (if you have time), call the Pickett House restaurant. They'll come pick you up; then I hope you're hungry, as they offer some of the best homestyle (southern) cooking you can ask for. After you're done eating, they'll drive you back to the airport. You'll need to check your weight and balance though, as you may have added a few pounds :-)
Cheap Gas and a VOR on Field!
Usually the best gas prices in South GA!
Nice airport
My former base of operations in Texas. Very friendly service at the newest FBO there, Galaxy Air. And, as David mentioned, Johnny (at Avionics Unlimited) does excellent work.
Diner
I second David's remarks. The 50s diner here is excellent. The menu is simple, but the food is great, and the decor takes you back in time, complete with poodle skirts on the girls.
Rio Concho has good burgers
Get the bonanza and leave with AV Gas. I don't think they do the free burger with Avgas purchase anymore.
"Friendliest Airport" Great Cafe
Check out the Blue Hanger Cafe...and one of the few Tetrahedron "wind socks" I've ever seen.
Nice place.
Sometimes Underwater... Like now July 2007
If it's been raining for months on end, Lake Lewisville may swallow the South end of the runway.
The Greatest $100 Hmaburger Airport ever!
30, Count them 30 restaurants within walking distant of the North West transient ramp, and an Upscale mall to boot. Also adjacent to a Home Depot, a Cost-co, and a Super-Duper Walmart. There is nothing you can't fly to at this airport. Right traffic to 34 and Call Addison KADS 126.0 in bound listen to Addison atis on 133.4 and follow the directions for inbound to ADS, then tell them you're going to Airpark.
Feet Wet!
Beautiful part of the world if you are willing to make the long overwater flight in a light single. No 100LL available so fill up before you make the trip. Nice little motel with a great pub adjacent to the terminal building. Rental cars also in the terminal if you want to explore the Islands.
MCC Flying
MCC Jet Services is great and friendly to small aircraft and has crew cars. The hotel on the airport is the Lion's Gate Hotel, which was the BOQ when MCC was an AFB. Their restaurant has very good food.
O43 Flying
The only restaurant on the field (Hangar Cafe) near the fuel pump has great food. The fuel prices is often cheaper than the nearest airports.
PASO/SOV Flying
Be aware of non-standard traffic patterns due to terrain and the frequent Part 135 operators who cut corners on the pattern and often do a dogleg straight-in to runway 16 from over the beach. Aircraft frequently takeoff and/or land downwind. Transient parking is anywhere there are no red cones at the tiedown ropes.
Desert Creek (NV97) Flying
It's private, but if you have a need to land, land south (uphill) and takeoff north (downhill). Don't overfly the neighbor's homes...make a long final over the dirt road (Desert Creek Road).
MROC/SJO Flying
Get your flying out of the way in the mornings, as the afternoon rainshowers can actually close the airport due to low visibility. Clearance Delivery is non-existent, regardless of the listing on the Jepp or NACO page. Use Ground Control for clearance. The taxiway doesn't meet ICAO clearance standards for runway separation, so expect delays for departure when aircraft are arriving.
We always stop here !
Great fuel price and GREAT people.
GREAT airport ... GREAT service ... Lower price fuel
We stop here for fuel anytime we're going to be flying within 30 miles of this airport since the service is GREAT and the price is almost always the lowest.
These people treated us right
Nice old terminal building. Fast line service.
It's a "airport different" in the "city different".
Bring your high-limit credit cards if you have to stop here.
Self-service fuel... but it's generally inexpensive
Most locals fly up to this little airport to buy fuel. There is seldom anyone there but the self-service fuel is usually the least expensive in the area
Stop if you must
Good shop... but pricey fuel, and don't look for a big welcome if you're not in a jet.
A "must' stop if you need MOGAS
An airport community with self-service fuel-- including MOGAS. Icebox in the office has soft drinks and snacks even if nobody is there.
Used to be a very active little airport.
The current airport sponsor has ignored the airport and it has fallen in quality in the past 10 years. Very few aircraft based there and no fuel is available at this time (7/24/07) Runway lights and beacon have been OTS for a few years, and now I notice that the two dirt runways are NOTAMED closed.
It's a pity.
kodo
Its outdated.Sure is in bad repair.
Pecos ( PEQ )
A great old WWII airport with lots of room and no busy traffic. Has a VOR approach and a very fine family that runs the FBO with a few helpers. Free cookies and soft drinks. Fuel is almost always one of the cheaper stops considering that it's out in the middle of nowhere.
diner only
Good place to fly for soup or sandwich. Don't expect to find anybody in operations, or expect a cart to assist with your bags. Fuel ain't inexpensive either.
Nice airport
It's a little annoying that the jets get a big canopy to sit under while I had to pre-flight in the pouring rain, but that's par for the course. Clearance Delivery is available on the radio on the ground, which makes it easier to depart IMC since you don't get a clearance void time until you're at the end of the runway with your run-up done.
The FBO was nice and the people friendly and helpful.
runway
good but subject to crosswinds
also seasonal
variations re dumping of alot of
gravel in may thru july to build base to prevent errosion
Fall Colours
A very popular fall fly-in destination - the scenary is beautiful. There can be lots of traffic on fly-in days. The approach is over the lake, with terrain rising to the runway - and the runway is narrow, so you might be high the first time you attempt this airport.
Nice Restaurant
There is a very nice restaurant here - but lots of traffic on the weekend. It gets busy with departures waiting to backtrack, cadets trying to launch gliders, inbound traffic joining the circuit, and lots of radio traffic in both official languages.
NDB Approach
I flew here several times while doing my IFR rating to practise the NDB approach to runway 35. It is an interesting IFR flight from Ottawa, culminating with the classic "NDB astern of you" approach and missed approach back to the beacon. I think I might actually get to land here one day. :-)
Watch for Float Planes
I had two close encounters (that I know of) with float planes within 5 nm of Elliot Lake airport. They seem to transit the zone but are not on the frequency. This is a good pit stop or a place to wait things out while the afternoon thunderstorms over Algonquin Park dissipate (BTDT). I understand there is a golf course near the airport that encourages fly-in golfers, but I don't golf so I can't comment on the quality of the golfing.

β Anonymous Flyer at Franklin Flying Field, United States
This is my home airport, not to busy and not so empty that it makes you sad. There is flight training on the field and also a jump school. Avg as only, but who would lad a jet on 2300' of runway anyway? Come on down to 3fk and see us sometime.
