The Texas Mile
This is where they hold The Texas Mile - a weekend of drag racing on the east-west runway. Great fun, especially to fly in, tie down in the corner where the runways (almost) meet, able in an enjoy the action!
Memorial for what?
As I did not know him personally, I did fly on his plane. Can someone please tell me why this airport should bare his name?
Good Fuel Prices
Stopped in here in December 2009 -- 100LL was under $4.00/gal. City/County run airport with no fuel competition. Busy airport with nice terminal facilities. Lots of NASCAR customers. No restaurant at the airport, but the do have crew cars. TSS
Crosswind Extravaganza
Better be up on your crosswind training when landing here... neat little airport with terminal. Unattended most of the time -- NO FUEL.
Hoppy's Skytop Restaurant & Lounge
This is one of my favorite airport cafe places to go. Great food and service at reasonable prices. Family owned and operated for breakfast Saturday mornings, lunch and dinner Tuesday thru Friday! Closed Sunday and Mondays. Located on second floor above Volo FBO; east side of airport. Link to website is: http://www.hoppysrestaurant.com/
FBO... Friendly With No Frills
Stop in regularly for business... no ramp fees unless overnight. 100LL fuel prices are so-so.
Low Fuel Prices
If traveling from New England to Florida... recommend you stop here if you need fuel. One of the most competitive fuel prices I found -- and immediate service.
Runway Cafe
Great little place to eat right next to the terminal -- Suggest Sunday brunch... good selection. Lot's of local flavor. Open most days for breakfast and lunch. Highly suggested. TSS

Riff Raff
This used to be a nice aviation community until it filled up with retired riff raff. Because of increased human activity it is now run down, full of litter, crowded and overun with groups of people with too much time on their hands. DO NOT move here! The people here are disfunctional and have no respect for the law. They have no lives of their own and want you to help them pass the time. It is getting worse and worse. The majority of property owners do not maintain their property and the home owners association does not enforce it's own rules and covenants.Their website is a joke and is misleading. For an example of how bad it is here a list of the individuals who are at the root of the lawlessness go to docstoc.com/docs/14587109/IN-THE-CIRCUIT-COURT ahrc.se/new/index.php/src/courts/sub/submit/action/display/id/7 and ccfj.net/HOAFLmelrose.html
Make sure you are informed before buying property anywhere lest you find yourself in a nightmare!
Runway Length
I think it is 1800 including about 25 feet of grass on the southwest end. I best I can tell from Google Earth, the paved runway is 1775+or- a few feet.

I had the pleasure of stopping here in late 1998 before it was criminally bulldozed. Absolutely FANTASTIC setting. They even made us do a go-around while they shot the "cannon" at geese near the runway, so we got a bonus view of being in the pattern well below the skyscrapers!
