Gilmer Airport
Small Short Airport
TSA screening
I do not see any other place to leave any commentary about the airport experience. This was my first time outside the airport, experiencing Dallas, going through security on the return today (4 pm) we had our fingernail clippers confiscated?!! REALLY...you know you cannot disagree with the TSA agent but that guy was ignorant and stupid and probably had dirty nails...he thought it was a knife...REALLY IGNORANT... and RUDE... and after three screenings and an examination of standard fingernail clippers, he said "we will have this destroyed (melted down)" Expletives not uttered but rolling around my mind these many hours later...we will fly through Dallas and not leave the airport in the future, and buy some new fingernail clippers tomorrow.
Flickr Images of the Greater Southwest Airport (Amon Carter
Photographers who have photo images of Amon Carter Field when it was still in use during the '60's ought to consider placing them (photos) on FLICKR for enjoyment of aviation buffs. I'm sure there are some folks out there who still have pictures of this airport in Ft. Worth in their possession . It would be interesting to see what the airport operations and facilities were like back then. I was personally privileged to tour the terminal plus the concourses as well as the ramp area with a friend of mine back in mid '70's. Unfortunately, I did not have a camera with me to photograph the airfield. We had unlimited access to the concourses and ramp. There were no aircraft operations after DFW opened. I was fortunate to find an original kodachrome slide, on EBAY, taken in 1955 with a Central Airlines DC-3 parked on the south concourse. The image is in excellent condition. I'm lucky to have it in my personal collection. Today, nothing exists on the site of the terminal of historical significance. A small bit of concrete slab, part of the taxiway from the runway is still there and can be seen clearly after take off from DFW. March 27, 2014 Bob V H
My first flight
This little airport opened about 1968. They had free airplane rides. I went up with my Mom and a guy I later went to Navy boot camp with. The pilot, Mr. Charles Jones had a Cessna 172, the best I can remember. We flew over my hometown. I was kind of scared of flying, or the idea of flying, then. Got to start somewhere!
Staff
This FBO is one of the friendliest ones in we have been to in Central Texas. They are over the top in helpfulness from he line guys to the desk.
Great experience flying in and out of TME.
re: Guinn Flying Service
They were my Grandparents.
Wonderful airport BUT
Runway in good but WAVY condition
Everything else is great including reasonable priced fuel
Great airport
Spent a few days visiting Marfa
Called the towns visitor center that provided transportation into town
Good FBO facility and runway in good conditions. Even have an instrument approach !!!
Quick visit
I changed planes here last Saturday on a long, multi-leg United Airlines trip from Geneva to Tucson. I didn't have much time to look around, but it wasn't too long a walk to my connection, and I had a chance to buy a smoothie on the way. Most food places were still open Saturday evening, which was nice.
Yes, it's legit.
The FAA thinks there is an private airstrip here. There are literally thousands of private airstrips in the United States, and many of them don't look like much on Google Maps.
Really?
I don't see any airport. Austinia was a town on Dollar Point in what is now Texas City several miles from here.
Flew in and visited TX42
Wow, they have a paved runway and taxiway and hangars being built and a lot of activity, friendly people.
current manager's tele # is out of service

Correction to UNIV. of TX library SPECIAL COLLECTIONS Dept.
Special Collections is on the 6th floor, not the second. Sorry for the error.
Photos of Greater Southwest International Airport, Fort wort
For anyone looking for photos of the Amon Carter Airport (Greater Southwest Int'l Airport) Check with the Univ. of Texas library, SPECIAL COLLECTIONS up on the 2nd floor. The photos were primarily taken by the Ft. Worth Star Telegram and donated to the library. The photos are mostly black and white. They are excellent! I can atest to that. I visited the library about a year ago and was pleasantly surprized at what they have available. Photos can be purchased at $10 per print. Unless you have another outside source, this collection is by far the best I've ever seen. Check them out.
Airport is closed.

Airpark Living
A great place to live and fly airplanes. Good neighbors. I love to live with my airplane.
Mystery Airport
Everytime I fly into DFW, I see what appears to be a piece of runway about 2 miles south of the airport. Finally looked up what it was and found out that this used to be a big airport. Lots of pictures and information about this mystery airport can be found here: http://www.airfields-freeman.com/TX/Airfields_TX_FtWorth_NE.html
Amarillo Air Force Base
Amarillo Air Force Base
Home of NORAD ID Z-88, guardian of the Gulf of Mexico. Capable of launching 3 B-52's side by side 25 sec. apart , it would shake cars 4 miles away. Alternate landing field for the US Space Shuttles .
re: Found utley texas
Reply to @thod: I changed the latitude of the airport from 0 to the same as the latitude of Utley TX, and I've changed the +97.41 to -97.41. Still don't see an airport there.

re: This can't be right?
There's no airport of this name in the FAA or Eurocontrol data.
This can't be right?
Location of this field must be wrong?
re: I got this when I typed in KBFE, which is Boeing Field i

Chinese Food
San Angelo has a great Chinese food resaurant on the airport grounds. Very good food and large portions.
Sutton County Steak House
Great food within 1/4 mile of airport.
airport
we were up there on our bicycles after riding from the park, pretty rough shape, I don't think I would land my plane there.

Hassle Free
For a large airport, this one is easy to get in and out of and I'm proud to call it my home airport. I've never had any problems at DFW.
needs new manager
seems shady in my opinion
El Jardin Ranch
Private airstrip of Oil and Gas tycoon Rod Lewis. Has been known to keep a number of warbirds here. Anita Perry, Governor Perry's wife, was uninjured in a mishap of a B-25, on which she was a passenger, here on 3/26/11.
Rio Concho
They don't even do the Burgers anymore since this past summer restaurant has been shut down.
Ganze Ranch Airstrip is now a par 5!!
The ranch is now part of the Firewheel Golf course. The "airstrip" might be a bit rough to land on these days....watch out for the bunkers!!
Phone number is wrong
The phone number listed for this in many places is out-of-date.
1992 Flight Star
I am interested in viewing a Flight Star, Was wondering if you all knew anyone at your air park that had one I could come and view. Would be nice to see one first hand. If you know if any in the area, I would greatly appreciate your help.
Thanks, Robert Karr
KBBD (Brady, TX)
My home field. cheapest fuel within 100 miles. Line service 24/7 when coming in after 20:00 central time call for service. AWOS 118.375 No self serve fuel but they do have trucks for 100LL and JP8 (jet fuel) and also have 4 Helicopter pads. Free coffee, WIFI, and computer service. If ya have a cell phone other than AT&T it wont work. The airport manager and Line manager live on the airport. If ya have bad service let me know and I will take care of it. The airport manager is my father.
private well kept.
Nice strip, clean but private, and prior permission required. Has auto fuel.

Guinn Flying Service
Does anyone remember Helen and Joel Guinn that ran Guinn Flying Service out in Pearland?
Mustang Beach
Wow, this is a COOL beachside resort. A throwback to the surf towns of the 60's and 70's. Everyone takes it nice and easy, certainly a drastic change from the hustle and bustle of nearby Houston (about 1.5 hrs away by Archer or the like). It's a little far from town, but there is a cheap bus that runs roughly hourly, and inside the "FBO" building there are phone numbers for local taxi service that will pick you up in a few minutes.
Carswell Air Force Base

— Anonymous Flyer at NAS Fort Worth JRB / Carswell Field, United States
Stationed at Carswell 1986-1992 during the last years of the Cold War and the end of the Reagan presidency. The base has lots of history, from the roll-out of all the great Convair and General Dynamics aircraft across the field, to being a movie star in Strategic Air Command with Jimmy Stewart. It was a great assignment, and a wonderful area (even though the summers were just too hot!). Loved watching the sky turn black when the B-52Hs all took-off during the major exercises, followed by all the KC-135s. What a sight to behold! Also loved the impromptu airshows when GD rolled-out a new F-16 for initial flight tests right over the airfield! That always brought everyone out of their offices, and stopped Commissary & BX shoppers in their tracks to watch the performance!
