Keep this Forum to the point.

Wow "@david " this is bit of poor representation of the events that killed Martyn and Gaylene’s son. This accident was tragic and should never of happened. I and everyone else I know (including Mr Chris Wise – whom I have spoken too about this), feels devastated for the Smiths. Why did you bring this up in this discussion?? Don’t forget the pilot that killed there son had a family too, and the events that happened that day is not their fault, when you represent untruths it reflects on them.

>the pilot had lost his medical<; He had lost his Class 1. Medical, he still retained a Class 2. Medical.

>and was disqualified from flying<; No he was not.

>let alone the low level aerobatics that he was carrying<; this was foolish as it’s not legal to take none essential crew and passengers whilst doing low level aerobatics.

>he drove his aircraft into the ground<, this is outrages, you make it sound like it was intentional, the manoeuvrer he did beggars believe, however in an attempts to impress, we have all done things that were stupid and got away with it, in this case he did not with tragic consequences.

It is this tragic event that has set the Smiths on a crusade, I can totally understand this, and as you put it > β€œi doubt that anyone could imagine the horrific images that must go through their minds”

Do not loose site that this pilot was well known to the Smiths and this was not the first flight they had shared on that day or other days. How they cope on a day to day bases is a credit to them, however does not excuse their crusade.

I think this forum should be kept to the opinions about the Aldinga Airfield, in Australia we all have a right to voice our opinions, one can only voice their own experiances and I know of several people whom have voiced their opinions on this forum, both positive and negative as is our pilots right, that the point of the forum.

Prior request before arrival (NOTAM, 20 Aug 2012 til 20 Sep

1) Because of work in progress at the western end of the runway, arriving aircrafts have to inform the AFIS by phone before arrival, for the vehicles of the civil works to clear the path for the landing. This constraint is less strict during weekends but PPR is still required. Information valid from 20 August 2012 until 20 September 2012.

2) AFIS not available by phone on saturdays from 4 Aug til 25 Aug 2012.

update

FYI, Picton is still a PPR airport except for PEFC breakfast, second Sunday of each month and Father's Day breakfast. Also there is a new registration box beside the old gas pumps. Please fill out the form. No tiedown fee. No fuel available.

The runways are maintained but are 70 years old so are far from perfect. No snow removal. Flying club is active but own no a/c. There are about 7 a/c based here in the summer.

description

There still is a flying school here. Also about 15 a/c in the hanger. Fuel is available Mon. to Fri during business hours. After hours and on weekends you need your own key. Price is reasonable.

FBO

We spent some time here in August of 2012 and found the owners of Tailwinds Aviation to be very friendly and hospitable. Services were fairly priced including fuel. The airport is well maintained and I would not hesitate to recommend it for most light aircraft.

Info on Airport

XiJiao is a Chinese military/governmental airport strategically positioned on the edge of the fourth ring road in downtown Beijing. It has few or no fighter aircraft, although a couple helicopters. Mainly you see 737's and occasionally a CRJ 200 or Gulfstream. Only time you see Airbuses here is when CUA airlines (Which is the only airline operating from NanYuan Airport) stop by occasionally. My guess is that they are contracting to transport officials or the likes. Plane spotting opportunities by the far south west corner of the runway in a small park, or at the two ends of the runway. Traffic usually is on workday mornings.

Good News - PORTUGAL ANA Airport Operators to be Privatised

Well some good news as Portugals ANA airport operators are to be privatised, so possibly big shake up's will happen within ANA management. This could have a have a knock on effect on the moribund state of Beja airport and maybe it will finally be transformed into a properly functioning airport?

re: Watching the discussion

Oh by the way, I did respect the views on this site and did in my posting some time back ask that any issues relating to any problems etc in regard to the tenant of Aldinga Aviation, Adelaide Biplanes, should address these problems with our new progressive board.

I did ask that we should all put this to rest as the subject had been flogged to death. I wonder what inspired an individual with such a obvious poisoned twisted mind to incorrect assume and post such a mentally unbalanced tirade? Whether it be against me or not.

Picture of

re: Watching the discussion

Well well well. So some spineless creature who does not have the testicular fortitude is maybe pointing a finger at me, Chris Wise.

I did identify myself on this site and had my say, but it seems like we now have someone who incorrectly assumes (Never assume as it makes a ASS out U and ME )'

Now put yourself in Gaylene's shoes who may have instigated this post.

Everyone, And I mean everyone gave Martyn and Gaylene and Bonnie all the support in the world. My wife and I felt for them in a big way.

We lost our son last year, but we are not taking this out on anybody else.

And here lies the nucleus of the problem.

Gaylene has engaged in a vendetta againts aviators in Australia who she thinks have done wrong. She has attempted to dob aviators in at events other than at Aldinga.

THe classic was when she, with her husband present, ran to CASA because she had heard stories about the antics of some pilots at a gathering at Mick and Di's Skypark at Port Lincoln.

When CASA advised her that it was a private show and that they could not attend these events unless invited, she asked why they could not hide in the tress and wach what was going on.

So, this had nothing to do with them. But this is only one inc incident of dobbing.

This is not the Australian way of doing things, one talks to the alleged offender first IF IT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOU.

Then Mr Smith tells me that the Australians have a terrible flying culture and when asked about it, He says that he is going to change it, This from a POM who had only recently arrived in Australia.

Look, at the end of the day, we all do sympathize with the Smiths, but they cannot take what happened to them out on the whole industry.

This is why, not just me, but many others in the flying fraternity have had enough of their dobbing arrogant attitude.

Read the posts, quite obviously the author of the last post has a fixation that I am the author of then. WRONG

One must remember that the Smiths thru the first stones and naturally some people will throw a stone back and they should learn to take the return flack that they so happily dish out.

I did post an article asking that all of this be put to rest, but if this snake in the grass wishes to continue with the trash, then please, identify yourself if you have the courage and BRING IT ON.

So if you are referring to me and my accurate opinions and assumptions of the Smiths which is quite obviously shared by many others, then instead of making accusations without identifying yourself and stand up and be accounted for, or are you also going to be another anonymous gutless dobber.

Now, If you are indeed referring to me, I am not bigoted and nor do I have a toxic mind. Only towards those who see fit to unjustifiably harm me or my mates, then it becomes more that toxic, it becomes very angry.

So what now Ms anonymous.

re: customs guy took some of my stuff to give to his wife

I would call and give the name on his tag to AIr port director, they will find out what time and who are in charge of that period. It's unacceptable treat.

My wonder on the trip arrival, do airport have the duty free inside arrival terminal so I can buy some stuff for my relatives? do you?

Thanks

Mayor of Kenge

Dear Sqongers,

I'm glad people have finally discovered Kenge and realised what a truly benge place this is. My name is Royston Spengeworthy and I am the Mayor of Kenge. I would like to share a little of our Kenge-tastic culture with you. Here is an extract from our town anthem. It is the chorus and, coincidentally, is sung to the same tune as your Western 'Silent Night'

"Silent Kenge

Holy Kenge,

All is munge

All is tunge,

Round yon spenger

Tarken and flark

Flunge in heavenly me-ee-enge.....

Flunge in heavenly Kenge"

I hope to welcome you all to Kenge in the near future.

Happy spengeing!

Picture of

Slengetastic!

Kenge is mint. I skenged there last month. They must have read the feedback as there was plenty of mengebrau, and even some penge. When I asked about flunge they said Basten was on the case. He is mint too.

In your face corruption

This is the main airport where Satan trains his devils on how to rob and extort money. Never has the human soul been subject to dread and horror as the frenizie of the lust for foriegn currency is unleashed. If you have the misfortune of going to hell when you die, I sure you will be treated with much more respect and dignity their.

Friendly little airfield

Friendly place to stop, grass or snow. Great for tailwheel, ultralights. Picnic tables, bikes to go into town, washrooms and more.

Picture of Tony

US Customs Stop

Stop here for US Customs if heading West to Oshkosh. Friendly and flexible with the ETA.

Picture of Tony

Overnight Stop

Spent the night here, camped on the infield. The airport manager offered to let me sleep inside the terminal, but there was no traffic and it was more comfortable to tie the aircraft down on the grass, pitch the tent and sleep beside the aeroplane.

Beautiful spot

Wonderful quiet little airport in Northern Wisconsin, out in Lake Michigan.

SuperCub.Org Flyin

Very friendly tailwheel flyin takes place here during the week of Oshkosh. Make a reservation, fly in, camp here and take the daily bus over to AirVenture (if you wish). Many of the New Holstein fly-in folk prefer to just stay here for the week, and don't even bother with the crowds at Oshkosh.

Inexpensive, quick fuel stop

Stopped here for inexpensive fuel after picking up the Club's Decathlon from the factory at Fox River. Take off from Fox River, climb to 1000 feet, look right and you are right base for KBUU.

re: Identifier?

Reply to @david: http://www.activitae.com/cgi-bin/htmlSearch.pl - I don't know if this actually looks at the ICAO database, or if it just applies the standard rule to the FAA ids. But it lists KOWD (and not abominations like K7G0 like I've seen in some places).

Picture of david

re: Fort Erie Airport

According to the CFS, the western 2,350 ft portion of the runway is still in use. If you zoom in on the satellite view, you'll see a faint "28" painted about a third of the way from the east end of the runway.

Picture of david

re: Identifier?

Reply to @ptomblin: the problem is that the ICAO doesn't recognize all of the KXXX identifiers. For example, Norwood Airport (FAA: OWD) is referred to as "KOWD" in GPS databases, but AFAIK, there is no "KOWD" ICAO code.

re: Incorrect link

Where are you seeing the broken link?

re: Information board

Apologies for any problems. The flight information is provided to OurAirports free by FlightStats, and we include it as a convenience for visitors. The data is quite good for major airports, but sometimes seems to lag a bit for smaller airports, especially outside North America.
