re: Website find

This airport did exist. Recently the "X" at the end of the runway was paved over. The old runway is currently being used as a taxiway for the landing strip across the street.

There currently isn't a Wikipedia page about this airport; however, there is one about the town it is located in. There is also an official website about this airport.

It was planned to have six runways, with 2 of them 5000 m, 4 of them 4500 m. I don't understand why it was planned to be so long, but it would be really exciting if it were completed.

I was always really excited about the finish of the airport, but sadly, the construction was abandoned. Felipe Angeles is nice too and is way cheaper than building this one, but it's too far away from Mexico City. I hope at some day they could restart the construction because Mexico City really needs a large and close airport.

(From Google Maps the runway shape looked like 5km long. You can measure it.)

A pretty famous airport known for its dangerous approach, since it's built on a cliff. Pilots approach with the "Terrain" warning. For the approaching video, here's a link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXECFuWzokQ

The construction of the airport had already completed in 2019. However, the satellite image was taken before the completion of the airport.

re: Very close to border

Yeah, if you turn to map mode, you can see that part of the airport is literally just the border, pretty cool.

Not international anymore, all international flights have moved to Palmerola(XPL) in 2021. It remains for domestic and general aviation.

Serving over 10 million passengers every year, way busier than the Galeao Airport.

Reply to @zzj: Lmao you’re actually spouting this nonsense while calling others "pretty stupid"? Hilarious. Even basic, UN-recognized facts like "Taiwan is part of China" are way over your head. Go invent your own UN and declare your house independent first, since you love making up fake realities so much.

Reply to @samisaber:

Bro Morrocans always think that where they occupy by force is their own. You're too naive, Western Sahara does not belong to Morroco just like Crimea does not belong to Russia.

It's the second largest airport after the one in Mogadishu, but it was marked as a small airport. How ridiculous.

re: First comment.

Reply to @I_Am_So_Handsome: Not a major airport, long runway required due to high elevation. Currently only one commercial flight per day.

Renovated in 2024. There wasn't a terminal before the renovation; instead, it was two thatched cottages serving as the VIP passenger terminal, and the runway was gravel instead of paved asphalt. For more images, see Google Maps here: www.maps.app.goo.gl/PvGBto6pL2BN9H9a9 . A Chinese Vlogger recorded a video before the renovation, recording the details of the airport: www.youtube.com/watch?v=28ujFzs65O4 (Although he was speaking Mandarin, you can see the video about what it looked like).

re: History

Reply to @Bollardant2:

History Update

Initially, the airport was equipped with a sand packed landing ground measuring 1,006 by 1,006 meters. The landing ground is depicted in a 1945 Survey of Egypt map of Jeddah. Between 1945 and 1956, two of said original runways were installed. Another runway was built in the 1960s, and a final runway sometime in 1979. The crosswind runway was inoperable by 1979, as it is depicted as being demolished. The 1980 Airports of the World book had probably reported on this airfield using older data.

Per comment, "... downgrades any hope of it being anything but a small, regional airport". so far seventeen home base members have not considered this a major airport.

One of the best airports in Philipines, with a beautiful approach and modern facilities. Although it is currently only domestic, but plans are underway to make it a fully functional international gateway. A 4.5 rating on Google Maps.

As of February 2026, the airport only operates one flight to Auckland.

This is the only international airport in the world that does not have its runway lit. The airport is closed at night and is used by island residents to host festivals, etc. It only has flights to Fiji operated by Fiji Airways about three or four times a week. Hence, I've decided to change it back to a medium airport because it does not really function as a major hub.

This is one of the very few airports in Sudan that are well-paved and lit. It is incredible.
