Food
Great restaurant!
Short
Caught some "attitude" here from more than a few people. Wasn't as friendly as I would have liked.
Woo hoo! Three forks saved the day!
Traveling due West I ran head on it to worsening weather. spun around and tried to get back in the clear but the sky opened up and the worst rain I've ever encountered began to fall. Flash flood stuff. immediately headed toward the closest airport (Three Forks). Landed with plenty of thunder and lightening. Moral of the story. You can watch the weather very closely (I DID) and still get bushwhacked! Thank you Garmin!
Nice area, nice general aviation airport.
Great airport / FBO. A bit spendy but hey, worth it.
Absolutely perfect
I flew in with my PA34 (Piper Seneca) from Birmingham Alabama via Toronto buttonville (CYKZ) along with 4 others on board, we stopped in to see family. And friends in the area. The runways are fantastic and very well taken care of, I've landed on paved runways that were not as good as this place. The staff and airport manager were excellent, extremely friendly and very helpful. Fuel was cheaper than anywhere else I could find in the region. I would highly recommend this little place, it's in a wonderful area and it is in perfect condition to land anything from a home build, or a light twin right up to a Kingair.. This place has no issues whatsoever.
Reminder
Picton is a PPR airport. There are numerous airport/runway closures so always check Notams and call for permission.
Old & New
Visited with my Dad (Bill Lawson) when about 9 yrs old. He was "District inspector, Western Airways". Went there again recently when my kids gave me a hangliding flight for Birthday present ... Fantastic!! Short flight time though ... got to do it again.
My 3-yr-old Grandson would say for couple months after: "CandaGrampa on kite in sky!"
Camping
Camping OK on lawn in front of fbo-also showers in the back of fbo

Priebe was where I remember flying out of as a kid in the 1980's and early 1990's. Sometime around 2010 the airport was sold to the county sanitation and the landfill is very nearby. However, you can still see remnants of the runway (cut in half with a road dissecting it and in very poor shape) as well as the aircraft tiedowns just west of the former runway. The old prop shop (which operated as an event space prior to being sold) has been torn down, but the hangar that Jim Priebe built in the late 1980's is still in use by the landfill for storing equipment.
Nevis Airport
Too bad that one's last memory of a glorious trip to Nevis had to be marred by a cold, rude security staff that gave everyone -- especially locals -- a very hard time, nit-picking, rummaging through luggage by hand to see what they could keep for themselves.
Owner of private airfield
The airfield is still open to landing, it is a private airfield however and not licensed. Feel free to contact me should you want permission to land. 1-705-647-7056
Friendly Airport
Feel welcome to stop by to visit Tony and Danny. You will be greeted with a "hello glad to see ya" attitude. They are both A&P mechanics in case you need help with repairs. They are making improvements to the 5200' grass strip. They are always happy to great new visitors and are always glad to see old and new friends. They usually have a cook out every 3rd Saturday of the month and, all are welcome. Chip in by bringing your favorite dish or just show up to chat with fellow pilots while enjoying a pot luck dinner. You want find a more friendly place.
re: Baie-Johan-Beetz is now in Quebec :)
Reply to @RaymondR: Doesn't appear in the Water Aerodrome Supplement either.
Baie-Johan-Beetz is now in Quebec :)
This aerodrome is not currently listed in the CFS
Please correct the mistake
It is located in Quebec, not Nova Scotia
More Information
I'm looking for a nice spot to base my homebuilt TD out of, could you provide me with some contact information? Thanks, jjybrodeur@hotmail.com
Get some competition!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I want to travel to Kingston from Calgary: It costs $250 to fly to Toronto and then Air Canada charges $246 for a 35 min flight to Kingston because they can!
Open for Bsiness
Aug 2014- Now fully operational as an official International Airport. Almost no traffic. Just a few Charters on the odd ocassion. Panamas white elephant?
Beautiful Airport
Flew here yesterday evening, great approach for runway 26 over the lake. Just keep your eyes on the numbers and you'll be clear of the trees. Will be returning, there was no traffic when I arrived around 20:00 local.
Runway Condition
As of 22 Jul 2014, runway partly overgrown with grass but appears to still be in fair condition, a deep unmarked ditch has been plowed across each end of the runway. Runway does not appear to have any maintenance, possible helo use only. Shown as abandoned on VNC.
GRR
Terrible
Close to Holiday World
This airport may seem like it is in the middle of nowhere, but it is... actually yes. But keeping it company is Holiday World. One of the best amusement parks I have ever been to.
Alban opening again ?
Oops typed in wrong box...
anyway in June 2014 I was told Alban strip may be opening again
Not an exciting town but friendly people and friendly airpor
Was recently weathered over here for two days. Cab fair into town is 30.00 each way. The Holiday Inn Express is nice but a little expensive. The Comfort Inn across the road is almost as nice and 50.00 a night cheaper. The Esso dealer at the airport is very friendly and helpful. The 100LL was reasonably priced but not great. There is a COPA discount but make sure you have your card. There was no landing fees and no tie down fees.
Simple and friendly
Arrived here on a Sunday afternoon. Nobody was a round from the airport but a local resident came by to check us out. He gave us a ride into town to get lunch. Gas is self serve and on the honour system. Call ahead and they will tell you where the key is. You then run your own Visa transaction and write it into a book.
Gilmer Airport
Small Short Airport
New Century Aircenter KIXD
Formerly known as Olathe Naval Air Station, and later Flatley Field after James H. Flatley Jr.
Great spot
Runway is in decent condition. About 5 min. after shutting down I saw a black bear cross the runway. Fish and Chips in town are a must. They will shuttle you to and from for free. Be aware there is now a $5 landing fee. Its nothing, but be aware of it.
Kars/Rideau Vallley
Best to call in on 123.4 before landing to keep clear of landing gliders. Left hand circuits. The strip is 4,000' long - 26 and 08. Quite smooth for a grass strip.
New FBO
There's a new FBO at the end of Juliet threshold 24R called H-18 i think. They only serve Jet-A, but they offer the best service on the field. Pascan is crowded with their own airplanes and they rarely have hangar space available. h18 saved me this winter, they gave me an amazing price, even though I was in a 172 and couldn't buy fuel from them. Definitely a place to check out. And they are only 15 minutes driving from downtown!
The World's First Airport* Dedicated Strictly to Unmanned Dr
The world's first airport designed specifically for unmanned aircraft boasting a 2 ac 20,519ftΒ² runway, will be opening in Mexico, near Queretaro named " Alfa, Charlie, Union, Lima, Charlie, Oscar" as a first step in getting UAVs and drone pilots working together in the same airspace.
The purpose of this training and flight site is to figure out how to safely and ethically fly unmanned aerials systems in the national air space, just like a manned aircraft is flown.
The sky is literally the limit. The opening of various new aerospace plants in Mexico (since 2010) indicates the industry's confidence in Mexico's capabilities as the country's battered economy emerges from recession. Mexico has a fantastic climate diversity and large amount of air space located in areas that is very remote, where there is no chance of causing a safety problem.
MEXICO: SURPRISING LAND OF OPPORTUNITY.
Drone prototypes continue to be developed and tested in Mexico. In other words, advanced unmanned commercial systems might as well have nowhere to fly at all. In the meantime, by not dragging its feet for another fifteen years, Mexico will draw unmanned systems developers that are serious about integrating their robotic systems into a national airspace to its shores for development and testing.
The industry is moving forward. Mexico will be the first country with drone airport, the very first flight, testing and training site.
A very nice place...
We were delighted with our recent visit to Pagosa Springs. The airport is nice and the runway long and wide. There is self-serve fuel and a bathroom in case the FBO is closed.
We stayed at the Sky View Motel, not the fanciest place in town, but were willing to pick us up and drive us around town a bit. They even have complimentary beer and a continental breakfast/snack! SkyViewpagosa.com 970-264-5803.
Pagosa Springs should be on everyone's bucket list. A wonderful little community nestled against the mountains, with great things to do Summer or Winter.
Increased fees
The Porter FBO now charges $50+tax/night for tie-down for a single-engine piston plane; no discount for fuel (unless you buy more than 400 litres / 105 US gallons).
The Trans-Capital ramp at the other (east) end of the airport charges $35/night, but doesn't sell fuel.
Good restaurant
For those visiting, there's a nice restaurant, right on the field - good food, reasonable prices.
Airport user for 20 years
This is the one of the best general aviation airport in Nova Scotia. Gas, flight training, mechanics it has it all.
Great Airport
This is the where I earned my PPL. It is home to one of the best FBO's in the northeast.. Great place to learn to fly!
Stopped here by chance
What a great "quiet" little place. Stayed the night on a long cross country. Two courtesy cars. Stayed at the Lazy B Motel. Clean, cheap and safe. Afton is what I'd like to see more of in America. Less corporations and more unique mom and pop businesses. Good food at the Elkhorn Cafe. The local talk will be kids, cows and horses. Check out the photo of Jesus holding a shotgun. Only in Afton! :) I will return!
Woodbine Airport
Yes, Woodbine is a very nice airport with great runways, but I take offense that the banner pilots are crazy, in fact the banner pilots at very professional and take flying seriously.
First Sunday Fly In Breakfast
During flying season head to Nulltown the morning of the first Sunday of the month. Breakfast is served and the true feeling of flight will be upon you.
Bob Struthers
I am about to land here and have lunch. Can someone pick me up.
Customs
I flew in via Canada. Northway didn't wish to send anyone down late so I flew direct here from TOK (precleared for a technical stop) and Canada. Customs is around by gate 6 at the main terminal.
Fuel and a store
Fuel and a small grocery store. A dump!
Tiedowns
This place sucks for tie downs! Had to chip away at concrete to free up old concreted over tie downs. Not a friendly transient airport, long was from town and lodging. Only one taxi.
Customs
Good for Northbound customs. Call first
Villeneuve Airport
No preparation was made to make this Edmonton's alternative GA airport before closure of Edmonton's City Centre Airport (Blatchford Field). Airport services are terrible. There are no vehicle rental kiosks and no restaurants. The airport is too far from the city. And the airport has no web page!! How the heck does this airport attract any visitors with no web page? This is a terrible airport.
Namao CAFB
Alberta (Edmonton in particular) is hell bent on removing itself from the aviation community. The Calgary Airport Authority (a privately owned operator) is the only corporation making any real effort to develop aviation interests in Alberta.
Berz airport
Some people seem confused. There were actually two Berz Airports. The first was at Crooks Rd and Maple (16 mile) in Troy, that was sold to Rockwell in 1967 or 8. Then the new one was started at 22 mile and Hayes in Macomb Twp.
Clearing Customs from Canada to USA at Ross International Ai
One of my biggest mistakes in 20+ years of flying. I took my Cessna C172N in to what is known as Ross Inteernational Airport. Nice name but a poor excuse for an airport let alone 'International'. Just about bought the farm on this venture. Rough sod, no facilities and the Customs Officer was unfriendly because I didn't phone 2 hours prior to landing even though I had phoned earlier in the week and completed the e-aptis thing, my bad I guess. Taking off was the test, picked the wrong direction, slighly up hill, thought there was no wind but there was in the wrong direction. I really thought I was going to end up in the vehicle border crossing building. Should have taken off west and taken my chances of crashing into the cemetary. Never going in there again.

β @VE6TDH at Killam-Sedgewick Airport, Canada
I visited Sept. 16, 2014 for the first time. Nice terminal building with soft drinks and cookies available. Congratulations to Justine on her first solo.
